Elle Magazine To Join The Condé Nast Family?
You don’t need me to tell you that it’s a scary time for Condé Nast. With several of their publications being closed or reduced, the Condé Nast family is in dire need of a little gimmick, and that gimmick may very well be Elle Magazine! Company CEO, Charles Townsend, has showed interested in the publication in the past and “in [their] quest to fill their lineup with broader offerings,” Elle may be the next move Condé Nast makes. We must admit, Elle has been on an impressive incline (probably thanks to the impeccable taste of Kate Lanphear) and will most likely do Condé Nast some good!
Thanks Blay Report!

INTERVIEW: Katy Perry Talks With Karl Lagerfeld [VIDEO]

For the longest time I wasn’t sure if I liked Katy Perry, I mean she’s really hot, but personality wise I was on the fence. After seeing this interview with Karl, however, I think I have a new found love for Miss. Perry. She seems a bit nervous, but comes across as very cute. As for Karl, I don’t think that senile bastard has any idea where he is or who he’s talking to (I kid I kid, but seriously how is that dinosaurs ponytail still attached to his head?).

WTF!?! Kate Lanphear Sits BEHIND Celebrities At G-Star Raw Spring 2010

I just got back from the G-Star Raw Spring 2010 show, and while I should be left with impressions of the clothing, I can’t help but wonder why Kate Lanphear, style director of Elle Magazine, was seated behind celebrities Juliette Lewis, Kat Von D, Eric Balfour and Leonor Varela, let alone on the side runway (yep, that’s her in the upper left corner!) I admire Lanphear’s support of fashion, as I’ve seen her at numerous shows and throughout the tents this past week, and I feel like her influence is far more important than an actor’s or tattoo artist’s.
If I learned one thing during this season’s fashion week, it’s this: DAMN PUBLIC RELATIONS PEOPLE NEED TO GET THEIR SHIT TOGETHER.

THE INNER-VIEWS: Lady Gaga, in Elle Magazine

Lady Gaga chat’s about her inspiration for her album and her two favorite topics: sex and fashion. The one outfit the clotheshorse would perform in (if there was only one for the rest of her career – let’s hope the recession don’t make things that bad!) is revealed. Hint: it’s something she claims she can’t dance in…

Elle.com Thinks This Dude Looks “Chic”. We Strongly Disagree…
“Mix shades of cream and white for a pristine pairing”, their words not ours.
The problem with street style is that very few people who are chosen by magazines seem to have any. Case in point, this dude spotted by the folks at Elle.com. Aside from looking like Brandon Flowers long lost twin, this guy posses about as much “style” as mid-american preachers wife dressed down for soccer practice.
Please get your eye for fashion checked Elle.com cause you just failed to identity a failure, which makes you about as useful as Vogue.

Wanna Sell Magazines. Don’t Put Nicole Kidman On Your Cover.

The numbers are in from magazine land and we have our list of best selling and worst selling celebrities. Angelina Jolie, Victoria Beckham, and Lauren Conrad on the cover sold the most issues in 2008. Issues with Nicole Kidman, Carrie Underwood, and Rachel Weisz on the cover sold the least. So if you want to make cash, skip out on Kidman and give us more Conrad.

Spread Um: Kate Hudson in Elle Magazine, February 09

One of the reasons I adore Kate Hudson is that no matter what the mood of her photos may be, she always has a playful and mischievous air to her. This spread shows the actress in a seductive manner; she looks beautiful, and her clothes look amazing. My favorite has to be the one where she’s sitting on the floor wearing those killer silver shoes. Love you Hudson… keep up the good work.

Spread Um: Ciara For Elle

As part of her attempt to remain relevant, Ciara gets all avante in a spread for the January issue of Elle. I may have been a little more impressed had it not been for the literal composition: the pseudo subtle poses, the offbeat hair and makeup, the captivating, yet impractical wardrobe. It’s somewhat trite, but also refreshing, since I’m enjoying the fact that more hip hop and R&B artists are embracing high-fashion couture, whether its self- imposed or at the heedfulness of their publicist. I’ll give Ciara some credit though…it was probably her idea.

TrendSpark: Masculine Femininity

Masculine femininity. It isn’t exactly the easiest trend to pull off, but it has got to be my favorite one of the season! I’ve always envied guys who get to dress up in their fancy layered suits and tuxedoes, but with the recent move towards masculinity, formal menswear has become yet another thing for women to rock out in.
This trend is all about the layers and accessories…button-down shirts, sweater vests, blazers, ties, bow ties, oxford shoes, dress pants and chunky watches are just some of the items necessary to pull off this trend. But don’t just slap all of these items together and expect people to think you look sexy and chic. You need to balance out the boldness of the masculine items with pieces like miniskirts, tights, heels, jewelry and, of course, simple makeup and hair. Kate Lamphear (pictured in the third photo), fashion editor for Elle Magazine, is the world champ for rocking this look. If you need some inspiration, take a gander at this stylish lady!

Whatever Happened to Naima? Oh Wait, There She Is!
Who could ever forget the unique look of mohawked Mexican, Irish, African-American and Native-American winner of America’s Next Top Model Cycle 4? After what seems to be a three-year hiatus, Naima Mora is finally reclaiming her spot in the fashion limelight.
Despite her appearances in Covergirl ads, ELLE Magazine and Sheer Cover make-up commercials during 2006 and 2007, Mora just hasn’t had any influence in the modeling industry. Luckily, Mora recently appeared on the cover and in an editorial for Vicious Magazine in 2008. Even more recent, Mora walked in the Project Runway finale at Fashion Week for designer Joe Faris.
Rumor has it that Mora’s miniscule modeling career is due to her focus on music. As if modeling wasn’t enough, Mora is the lead singer for the unsigned band, Chewing Pics. The band’s EP was released in March of 2008. Hey Naima, do us a favor. Put down the microphone and jump back on the runway…the industry needs your face!
Thanks for the photo B5media!

“Stylista” Will Make A Mockery of the Fashion Industry
I’ll probably watch “Stylista”. No, I will watch “Stylista”, then I’ll roll my eyes when one of the assistants get menacingly chided for bringing in tepid coffee or when a very costumed Ann Slowey does her best, albeit hackneyed, Devil Wears Prada impression. While rifling through this month’s Elle over the weekend, I couldn’t help but notice the less than modest mentions about their upcoming reality show/competition in which we’ll get to see how much contestants are willing to make utter fools of themselves for an “editor position” at said magazine. It’s an all too familiar scene these days—another reality show turning and otherwise esteemed profession into a glamorized joke. The trivialization of jobs in the fashion industry has become fodder for prime time entertainment, which really is nothing new. But now they’ve gone after fashion editors and I am, to say the least, vexed.
The truth is I like shows like this; Project Runway, America’s Next Top Model, The Fashionista Diaries, etc. They give people a candid view to the inner workings of the fashion business, and for people like me, who actually plan to be a part of that business one day, it’s a little inspiring. Okay a lot. Equally, I can’t help but be turned off by how callous, sniveling and vacuous they make everyone seem (trust me, editing is a bitch). I’ve had my share of internships in fashion PR and publishing and it’s definitely not as theatrical (except when dealing with Mandie Erickson’s former pupil/bff). Yes, this industry can be superficial, shallow and silly, and yes you’ll come across more assholes more often than normal than in any other field, but these are people, highly skilled artisans if you will, that are true experts at what they do, all in the name of pleasing our senses.
Despite the common consensus, it takes real talent and vision to execute such imaginative spreads and layouts, which in turn makes everything look even more drool worthy and unattainable. I guess my main concern is being met with the absent-minded “oh really like who isnt” pshaw when divulging my aspirations. I refuse to be a dime a dozen.
