As I’m sure you all know, Williams’ ex and the father of her six-year-old daughter, Heath Ledger, died of an overdose in 2008. As for the haircut, it’s become a part of her, as the Oscar-nominee explains: “I’ve really grown into it – I feel like myself with short hair. And it’s been a really long time since I had long hair, five years.”

Williams opened up to Elle to promote her new film, My Week with Marilyn, in which she plays tragic movie icon Marilyn Monroe, a role she found particularly challenging: “I’ve never been so hanging on a cliff waiting to hear what people think of a movie. - Someone somewhere told Elle UK that Balmain will be naming a new designer in the next few days, but that name will most likely be followed by a question mark. This source says: ‘They’re going to choose someone unknown. Christophe [Decarnin] was an unknown when he came to Balmain, and the owners want to support lesser-known design talent.’ Support and then drive them insane…allegedly. [Elle UK]

- Supermodel Doutzen Kroes is trading in her stilettoes for some Moon boots. The Dutch beauty has signed on to be part of Space Expedition Curacao, a sort of galactic travel agency where ordinary citizens — or at least supermodels  – can observe the Earth from space. Doutzen was one of a  select fifteen passengers invited on the initial launch meaning she will be the first person to catwalk in space. Eat your still-beating heart out, Neil Armstrong.  [Modelina]

- Noted news  publication Supermarket also-ran, Star Magazine is “reporting” that Kate Middleton’s wedding dress might have to be built for two. Following pressure to “produce an heir,”  Prince William and Kate may have started knocking the royal boots  before their stroll down the aisle. And if the mag is to be believed — which it clearly isn’t — the Queen Mum could care less since she all she wants is to hear the pitter-patter of little feet again…just as long as those little feet pitter and patter far away in some other part of Buckingham Palace.  [Jezebel]

- Reese Witherspoon is giving me some serious bombshell realness on the cover of Elle UK, shot by Ben Hassett. The gams are out, there’s a peep toe pump and I’ve never seen Reese this…hot before. Why is it that British editions of fashion mags get celeb covers right when we’re left with this over here in the states? And of course…this

- Rumor has it Erdem might be H&M‘s latest collaboration. The adorably pint-sized designer, however, claims he’s too busy with his own line, though he won’t rule out the possibility in the future. Rumor also has it that Erdem is designing Kate Middleton‘s wedding dress, but he dodges that one too…so either Erdem Moralioglu is as crafty as he is tiny or someone’s seriously fucking with my emotions. Not that Anne Hathaway isn’t totally working this now infamous gold Balmain number on Elle UK’s December cover. But, I mean…she’s got a wee bit of competition already…

Execs at Balmain are definitely rubbing their hands with glee–they’re pretty keen on this overexposure. As a label spokeswoman told the Daily Mail, “None of the magazines asked for cover exclusivity. The first cover came out in June so other magazines had seen it. No one has complained so there is no drama at all.”

Okay, no one complained. But if I worked at Elle UK and shelled out exorbitant prices (Balmain don’t come cheap) for a dress after six girls got their hands on it, I’d sure feel like an idiot right now.

How did the same dress end up on three different high-fashion magazine covers? That’s what we — and Guardian reporter Imogen Fox — really want to know.

The dress, an appliqued Miu Miu creation, is on W, British Vogue and Elle UK. To be fair, we should mention that the dress Lily Allen wears on the cover of Elle is done in a muted lilac lace, while Eva Mendes (on W’s cover) and Swedish model Freja Beha Erichsen (on British Vogue) are both seen in the yellow version.

So how did it happen? We’re flabbergasted, and, well, so is Fox:

Surprisingly, this sort of cover multiplicity is rare. Actors frequently chalk up multiple dresses in the same month, but not magazine covers. There are good reasons for this. Fashion press officers work hard to achieve a delicate UN-style political balance between glossies to make sure that these kinds of overlaps don’t happen. “Usually press offices are pretty good at making sure we don’t get the same dress as our rivals,” says Lorraine Candy, Elle’s editor.

So we have to wonder what happened here — could Miu Miu be so hard up for publicity that it would need to trick three magazines into using its dress? Do we really believe Miuccia Prada is capable of doing something so schemey? No. She’s a sweetheart. And she makes really good clothes — good clothes that, clearly, beg to be photographed.

In time for Spring/Summer 2010, Giles Deacon will be launching a jewelry line available at top department stores! Giles told Elle UK his plans for the line:

“In the past we did big show pieces, but these are very workable into everyday life.  [I took] elements or themes recurring in past collections and recreated them [so that] if a girl liked a particular collection, she’ll be able to buy jewellery that reminds her of it.”

The line is going to include some great stuff: an oversized gold spider ring, silver and gold cuffs with jewelled animal ears attached, as well as a multi-coloured crystal and feather statement necklace with matching bracelet. But if you’re after something more subtle, you’ll find it here too in the silver animal head pendants and chunky gold rings set with semi-precious stones.

Sounds AMAZING. I can’t wait to see it! Ready to wear some Giles jewels?

Lindsay Lohan, everyones favorite multitasker who seems to do nothing, made the cover of Elle UK’s September issue. It’s unclear what Lindsay has done to land this cover, and even more unclear why she would constantly avoid the interview, which leads to an unflattering article (available at the source). Maybe she should just stick to being a model, no one wants them to talk anyway.

What year is it? Winona Ryder appears to be attempting a comeback, and has landed the July 2009 issue of ELLE UK.

Matthias Vriens McGrath photographed her in a D&G corset and black nails.  The cover is bright, pretty straight-forwardly Spring, and Winona is still looking good!  Can’t wait to see how they styled her editorial.

I’m assuming this is a bit dated, but it is still worth posting, because what’s better then seeing a faux-celebrity get put back in her place? Poor Cory Kennedy must not be in the good graces of the folks over at Elle UK because she got stamped with the “friend” tag in a picture with Peaches Geldof (check the outlined images above). Oh Cory, you can’t be too mad, you had a solid run of tricking people into thinking you were important, and for that I envy you.

More images from Kate Winslet’s February 2009 ELLE UK spread have surfaced.  The retro-inspired modern looks are a good change for her.  I feel stylists usually can’t let go of her Titanic image, and stick her in period piece-style editorials.  I see nothing flowy here, though; and no bodices, petticoats, or men in tights.

Here’s hoping for no photoshop lawsuits…!
