An Absent Katy Perry Wins 5 People’s Choice Awards Proving People Shouldn’t Be Allowed to Have Choices or Awards

Let’s get this over with. Well, the People’s Choice Awards – or as I like to call it, “Wait, who’s that on the stage?” – were last night and Katy Perry cleaned house, winning five of the coveted (?) awards, including Favorite Female Artist, Favorite Song of the Year for “E.T.”, Favorite Music Video for “Last Night (T.G.I.F.)” and interestingly enough, Favorite TV Guest Star for her stint on How I Met Your Mother. Too bad she didn’t bother to show up. But as we all know, the People’s Choice Awards are on par with the Grammys in terms of relevance and on par with a moderately lavish bar mitzvah in terms of its ability to draw celebrities. Other big winners included Emma Stone, who was actually present to accept her awards for Favorite Movie Actress and Favorite Comedic Movie Actress and Demi Lovato who beat out pop heavyweights Beyoncé, Lady Gaga, Rihanna and Perry to win Favorite Pop Artist. Say so long to Matisyahu the obvious Jew and hello to Matisyahu, the artist formerly known as the only known reggae-rapping Chassidic Jew. He took a blade to his face, and with it he gained freedoms, and a kind of creepy prison-looking instagram. Who knew that underneath the tufts of facial hair and pais was a cute, skinny Eminemish lookin’ dude. He posted his reasoning behind the shearing on his blog this morning – read it here.

Sorry folks, all you get is me…no alias. When I started becoming religious 10 years ago it was a very natural and organic process. It was my choice. My journey to discover my roots and explore Jewish spirituality—not through books but through real life. At a certain point I felt the need to submit to a higher level of religiosity…to move away from my intuition and to accept an ultimate truth. I felt that in order to become a good person I needed rules—lots of them—or else I would somehow fall apart. I am reclaiming myself. Trusting my goodness and my divine mission.

While Nicki Minaj went for Baroque in W Magazine, her fellow contemporary pop stars painted the town Renaissance red during MTV’s Europe Music Awards. Beyoncé, Lady Gaga, Eminem, Katy Perry and the prepubescent couple of Selena Gomez and Justin Bieber look classier than they could ever hope — although I’m pretty sure Gaga wore a similar gown to go grocery shopping the other week.

Robert Pattinson is Obsessed with Slim Shady

Robert Pattinson has let us in on quite the secret. Apparently the actor wanted to be a famous rapper when he was younger. Robert shared a bit of embarrassing info about a wide collection of tapes he has with his own rap songs:

“You want a secret? OK, how about this – I’ve got a whole collection of tapes of me rapping from when I was 13! I wanted to be a rapper so there are hundreds and hundreds of tapes. They’re very amusing! I was obsessed with Eminem when I was younger. When he first came out I was about 12 and fanatical about his Slim Shady CD. I think he’s a genius. Most of my rhymes were stolen off other people anyway. They were all like, ‘I was raised on these streets…,’ which was a complete farce because I was actually raised in quite a nice area of London called Barnes. Not very ghetto at all! I was obsessed with it all, though. I even had my own little crew – we called ourselves Big Tub and the Tappy Cats.”

Hope he plans on sharing those tapes with the public!

Well, Katy Perry‘s nominated for album of the year. I realized there was no god last year when Taylor Swift won that alleged honor. Now I’m convinced that not only is there no god, but that the Grammys are actually the devil. If you care, there’s a list of nominees after the jump.

If you’re at all like me (read: drunk), then you’re probably wondering “Where in gay hell is Robyn?” Well, luckily (or not depending on your view of winning a Grammy) our pop maven from Sweden is nominated for Best Dance Recording for “Dancing On My Own,” i.e. “The Best Song of 2010.”

The Grammys really don’t reflect what’s going on in music today therefore they don’t matter. Hell, I can’t remember the last time then was the Grammys did matter?

This month (November 22nd to be exact) my latest obsession Nicki Minaj, aka the baddest bitch in the business (sorry John Mayer) will drop her debut album, Pink Friday. And in YRB Magazine she gets in touch with her inner diva.

Famous for her 16-bar cameos in songs by Ludacris (“My Chick Bad”), Usher (“Little Freak”) and Mariah Carey (“Up Outta My Face”), Nicki is also the first female rapper to top the Rap Songs Billboard chart on with the Annie Lennox-sampling “You Love” since another bold raptress Missy Elliott in 2002.

Nicki is rapper as popstar, sort of a Gaga Latifah. Like the Lady, she has a taste for the more outrageous in style, but also doesn’t take herself or her image too seriously.

If you’re not familiar with the raptress, here’s a sampler of some of her best and baddest to whet your appetites til the 22nd.
