The hunting and collecting for the most beautiful rugs is very rewarding and brings us to the most beautiful places around the world. The varieties of sun dyed colors, patterns and structures are never ending, and it’s incredible to work with such a diverse product. The kilims we use are vintage, handmade and tell thousands of stories about their makers and tribes.

Working with kilim is a different story and a challenge every time. The rugs we find create our collections, not the other way around. They comes in thousands of different weave structures too, so cutting them can cause problems from time to time. Some of the kilims are extremely damaged which makes it hard to cut identical pieces for the left and right feet.

Despite the fact that we’re just now coming up on 1 year of marriage (sigh), the hubby and I are already thinking about our 2nd anniversary… because to celebrate we’re going backpacking through Europe for 3 weeks! We both love to travel (if you haven’t noticed), and with a booked solid year ahead of us – final year of my Masters (holla!) – we've decided that next October will be the perfect time to run away together for a while  With that being said, this outfit kind of makes me think of our upcoming adventure. I believe lace has gone slightly unappreciated in the US up until recently, while the French and Spanish have always managed to incorporate it quite nicely into their cultures. So, I was quite pleased to find this lace top hanging from a sale rack at Kohl's about 6 months ago. At only $12 – magnifique!

The Barn. Auguststrasse 58. Berlin

Promised to find good coffee, and after over a month in Europe (where lattes are served with cappuccino froth) have discovered The Barn, where the canadian barrister makes coffee just like they make it in oz… and with soy milk too!!

Was their opening party last night complete with hay bales out the front- apparently the owner wanted a cow but they are harder to come by!

Cream blush is everywhere. Pans, pots, sticks- they come in several formats and sheerness levels and are winning even reluctant hearts and faces including mine. Three or four years ago I had a hard time finding even one cream/gel blush I liked. Now I have several in my regular rotation and I can mix, blend and choose.

Speaking of mixing and blending, the Cheekie Palette from Julie Hewett has become a favorite (despite one big flaw. See below) exactly because of the endless customizing options it allows. The four Cheekie colors look intense in the pan but they apply sheer enough and blend well, so you don't end up with clown cheeks. You can wear them alone or blend two or more, which is what I usually do. Jami, the neutral rose-mauve is the only one I wear on its own because it looks very natural and the color is easy and as unfussy as it gets. I mix  Rosie or Peachie with Natural to bring them down a notch or two and get a color that has just the right amount of red or coral for me and adjust the levels of each shade according to mode, time of day and the other makeup I’m wearing.

The final effect is very nice natural flush. Just like Scarlett O’Hara biting her lips and pinching her cheeks in preparation for some flirting. Cheekie can also be used on the lips, but I prefer not to do that- most of the colors are too sheer to do anything for my pigmented lips.

The funny looking brush is very effective. It grabs enough color, blends it easily and isn’t abrasive on skin. It covers just enough face space so you don’t go overboard (blend well to avoid streaks).

The one big issue with this Julie Hewett product is longevity. The texture is pleasantly thin, but it also tends to fade and disappear within 6 hours if you don’t do a meticulous job of cementing it into place between two coats of face powder. Otherwise it just melts right into your foundation. So this is certainly not a touch-and-go   blush, and it requires that you take your time doing your face and find the right combination of products that work for you and for these cheeks color (some HD powders tend to mute these blushes a little too much. I prefer a finishing powder that has a little yellow pigment).

Another thing of note: I own several other Julie Hewett products (lipsticks, balms, eye shadows and liners)- all of them are made in the US. The Cheekie palette is the only one made in China. I’ve noticed other brands that do the same- most of the line is manufactured in the US or Europe, but a handful of items are outsourced to China. The annoying part is that you usually don’t have this info when ordering online (QVC is the only place I’ve seen that discloses the country of origin).

Bottom Line: Great concept, less than perfect implementation.

Exalted like gods, the players of the biggest sport around the world have found new life off the field. We’ve seen famous faces endorsing a whole range of lifestyle products, from soft drinks like Pepsi to personal hygiene products like shavers.

It seems like if you’re young, fit and a footballer, odds are that you’ll most likely find your face plastered on a billboard somewhere, even if they’re for products that are completely unrelated and slightly bizarre!

Unsurprisingly, the fashion industry has also embraced these players wholeheartedly. Fit male athletes with sculptured muscles from a variety of nationalities? It's practically a match made in (fashion) heaven!

Here are the top 5 moments when fashion met football:

#1. Football players as models

A host of football players have been the face of countless fashion advertisement campaigns. These are but just some of my favourites:

#2. Football players as magazine owners

English football star and Britian’s best dressed man as selected by GQ magazine, Rio Ferdinand has started an online magazine called #5 which explores the realm of sport, fashion, film and music.

The magazine has featured some of the best atheletes in the world from a wide variety of sports such as Roger Federer, Lebron James and Wayne Rooney but lest you think it’s an testosterone overload, there’s also a good mix of models, film stars and general trivia.

#3. Football players as boutique owners

Italian football legend, Paolo Maldini, may have hung up his boots but he’s not contend to live a quiet life of retirement. He most recently made headlines when it was reported that he was in business with ex-Oasis rocker Liam Gallagher for Pretty Green, Gallagher’s new clothes store. With plans to become a leading fashion house in Europe, the order is quite a tall one for the ex-football star/current budding business mogul. Whatever it is, I expect this will not be the last we hear of Maldini!

#4. Football players as fashion designers

Thierry Henry is celebrated not only for his skills on the football pitch, but he’s a veritable fashion designer too having collaborated with Tommy Hilfiger on a highly successful capsule collection.

All proceeds of sales went to the One 4 All charity, which fights against racism and social inequality, which goes to show that Henry is not merely a football star, fashion designer but a philantrophist to boot.

#5. Football players as actors

Zinedine Zidane was a surprise face during the Yohji Yamamoto-led Y3 Spring/Summer 2010 short film. Upon viewing it, the reason why the football star was cast became clear.

The Y3 Spring/Summer 2010 collection celebrates sports heritage and with the 2010 World Cup in mind, there’s no better icon to pick than the Frenchman who’s a bonafide football legend.

As you can see, fashion and football are not two mutually-exclusive items. They’re definitely not as far-fetched as the scoffing football fanatics will have you believe. In fact, when you think about it, this year’s world cup trophy case is created from none other than Louis Vuitton, one of the most famous high-end brand across the globe.

No surprise given their “legends” campaign that featured three of the most high profile players in the history of the game, Pele, Diego Maradona and Zinedine Zidane.

Last but not least, let’s not ignore the significant amount of commercial space that has been given to showcasing footballers and their skin. Or to be more precise, football players as faces of underwear campaigns. Here are the top five best underwear campaigns as fronted by football players:
