RUNWAY Karl Lagerfeld Fall Winter 2009/10 Womenswear

I’m a huge fan of Karl’s work for Chanel, but when it comes to his namesake brand I feel we’re getting a bit shafted.

TWITS: Hutson Opting Out of Fashion Week
Last Fall, Swaim and Christina Hutson said a sad goodbye to Obedient Sons & Daughters and retested the fashion waters with new label Hutson. According to Meenal Mistry’s Twitter, Hutson, despite their projections to show at Fall 2009’s Fashion Week, will not be showing during the infamous week. Instead, a “small series” of Spring 2010 pieces will be available at the end of September. Devastation.

AD-DICT: Prada Fall 2009

The full Prada campaign has been released, my favorite are the detail shots of the shoes splashing in the dark murky waters where the models are lounging. These ads are stunning in their simplicity.

RUNWAY RUNDOWN Y’s Red Label Fall 2009

Took me long enough to post this one, I suppose. The last few months have gone by too quickly. Aside from the garments with text prints, which I only included one of above, I really am smitten with this collection. The reasons are obvious, surely… she successfully was able to take the Yamamoto silhouette and really craft it to be her own version for this label and I was beginning to look forward to her output a great deal. Unfortunately, it was been going around that Ms. Suzuki has in fact resigned from the Red Label and subsequently – but so unfortunately – NONE of this gorgeous collection will be seeing the light of day as far as actually going into production and then to retail.
I’m unsure of her reasoning, as it was by word of mouth that I learned of her departure, but while she will be missed as designer of this label, I really hope that she will continue to have some sort of output for us to gawk at because her work is stunning and also I’d love to see what, at this point in her career, she will come up with when not under the confines of someone else’s brand.

RUNWAY RUNDOWN: Jose Castro Fall 2009
The hair, the use of leather, the DIY possibilities; this collection by Jose Castro sure had OutsaPop Trashion talking and recreating. The bloggette is set to recreate some of his pieces using 20 euro worth in thrift shop purchases. Be sure to check out her blog for more on the process.

RUNWAY RUNDOWN: Andrea Crews, Fall 2009
Andrea Crews are one of the few designers that can successfully merge artistic expression with wearable fashion. Hosting massive DIY style events to harvest materials for their collections, the group has created these pieces for their Fall 2009 collection titled Sister of Mercy.
It’s amazing that they are able to create items that are so on trend —drop-crotch, slashed pants, statement necklaces, sweatshirt material— and still remain artists

RUNWAY RUNDOWN: Undercover Fall 2009

The Undercover show, according to Style, took place on a Mylar blanket runway in a forest in a Japan. There were just two models and supposedly it was cold as all get out, done to highlight the high-tech nature of Jun Takahashi’s fabric choices. According to the article:
“Takahashi hybridizes biker jackets, puffers, parkas, regular tailoring, and knits to produce lightweight jackets and coats, which are lined with membranes and microcapsules developed for NASA. Some of them absorb body heat indoors and then release it when the wearer steps out into colder conditions. Others will block biting windchill, even though they’re ostensibly as flimsy as blazers.”

QUOTEABLE: Alber Elbaz Thinks He’s Fat. We Agree.

“I am overweight, so I am very, very aware of what to show and what not to show, and I am sure there is a huge link with being an overweight designer and the work I do. My fantasy is to be skinny.”

DSquared2 Fall 2009 Reminds Me of Mary Kate

So if you took Mary-Kate from four years ago and designed an entire collection around it and then added a couple of trucker hats, you’d have DSquared2 Fall 2009 collection. Leggings, leopard and Starbucks cups make this collection seem dated in the worst kind of way. While it is a collection that imitates many existing trends, it just doesn’t offer much in the way of something new and exciting, which means its the type of collection that you’d probably find at Forever 21 and H&M right this second.

RUNWAY RUNDOWN Twenty8Twelve Fall 2009

It’s so hard for me to judge celebrity fashion lines, especially since so many are going under. But Sienna Miller’s attempt at fashion is way better than any attempt she’s made at acting, which technically isn’t saying much. While most of the pieces just seemed like Alexander Wang/The Row knock-offs, items like this mini-dress above seemed like they belonged in the closet of any respected fashion type. I’d expect more pieces like this to have showed on the runway, but instead got a steady stream of disconnected one-of’s.

RUNWAY RUNDOWN: Bernard Chandran Fall 2009

Bernard Chandran’s AW09 collection was inspired by the ‘romance of the Far East’ which apparently translates as metallics, voluminous shapes, and graphic prints. Lame, glitter and studs in silver, gunmetal and gold reflected the stark white walls of the On|Off venue at The Science Museum…

RUNWAY RUNDOWN: Olanic Fall 2009
Played before a stage of mirrors and a video montage backdrop, Olanic’s Fall 2009 collection brought us mini-dresses, cinched waists and long black gloves in a monochromatic color palette. Once labeled as Vogue’s “ones to watch”, Olanic seems to have lost some of his luster since past seasons glory.

RUNWAY RUNDOWN: Ferociter Fall 2009

The Ferociter Fall ‘09 collection has hit the scene. Pearls, tassels and rhinestones graze each piece for a sense of elegance. Many of the pieces are a lot more sophisticated whereas others are less formal, fun additions to that perfect outfit. If your not into gold or silver, there’s a couple bright colors thrown into the mix too.

RUNWAY RUNDOWN: Jason Wu Fall 2009
Jason Wu presented his fall 2009 collection and it was definitely a packed house. The Obama fame wagon hasn’t left this young designer and he surely will remain one to watch with a collection that has lined up this designer for undoubted greatness.
That’s what we had to say now check out what the rest of the web is saying about Jason Wu’s Fall 2009 Collection
1.) Jezebel: Jason Wu “does this structured yet effortless dress thing so well,” showing “frocks fit for a First Lady — or anyone interested in ladylike ensembles.”
2.) The Cut: “The lovely printed, full-skirted dresses that followed looked like pieces Michelle Obama would wear (she wasn’t at the show, sadly). Wu also showed a number of chiffon gowns in shades of gray, nude, violet, and ivory. Chanel Iman wore a bright-fuchsia-and-red cocktail dress with black beading on the bodice. Anna”—that would be Wintour, obvs—”had a faint smile on her face throughout the show, clapping and grinning once Wu took his bow. She approves!”
3.) Fashionista: The packed show was “filled with very pretty clothes meant more for photographing than anything else” and “We’re sure Michelle will have much to pick from for the coming year.”

RUNWAY RUNDOWN: Nima Fall 2009

While there were definitely strong pieces in her collection, including this bowed asymmetrical pink gem, I feel that this collection lacked the direction and vision of some recent women’s new comers. Still fresh from the mean halls of Parsons, Nima has all the potential to become a great fresh face, but first she needs a handle on styling a collection.

That’s what we had to say, check out what other blogs are saying about this collection.
1. WWD. “Less than two years after launching his namesake line fresh out of Parsons, Nima Taherzadeh is showing a knack for elegant, inventively detailed ready-to-wear. It’s unabashedly luxurious.” Images courtesy of WWD.

RUNWAY RUNDOWN: Number (N)ine Fall 2009 Collection

Now I’m normally not a fan of the color brown, but when a designer manages to make it look amazing and present it well like Number (N)ine did for their Fall 2009 Collection, you can’t help but tip your hat in approval. The collection featured a ton of cropped pants, uniquely decorated dress shirts, and shin high boots for everyone. Judging by the images it seems as though the show was far from conventional in style, and the full facial coverings really added an awesome element to the show.
