Haus Alkire has dabbled in subtle psychedelics. The near-grayscale trip of mirrored shapes kaleidoscopes into light flowers over twisted classics. Julie Haus and Jason Alkire have been collaborating for over a decade, Haus running the design end with Alkire’s artwork and photography. The goal is melding fashion and art and they do so with haunting effects. Their flagship store thrives on Broome St. in SoHo, and they’ve just been granted the Ecco Domani Fashion Foundation award for womenswear. See “Collection One,” handmade in New York City with laser cut lambskin, cashmere and the softest silks.

CASTING CALL: Female Models Needed for Fashion Reality Show

Here’s your chance to get your 15 minutes…

Casting: Major network TV Show. A spin-off show from a very successful fashion design show. This show will also be airing on the same network in November. We need female models for on and off the catwalk. This is not a reality show and the models will be models only on the show–there will be no reality storyline associated with the models.

Vitaminwater, Joe Zee, Eric Daman, and Richard Chai Want You to Win!

Every budding fashionista and almost fashion graduate usually has the same question on their mind this time of year: “How do I make it in the industry?”. We know there is no better way than to hear it from the experts themselves, so we were psyched to hear that the Vitaminwater style council had come to the rescue. Read how after the jump.

Style council members teamed up to talk to fashion students about how to make it in the industry, educate themselves about the creative process, and encourage them to join the “vitaminwater color collection” competition, a t-shirt design competition that leads to a $5,000 grant and a tshirt produced and sold through vitaminwater. The FIT panel included Gossip Girl stylist Eric Daman, Elle’s creative director Joe Zee and CFDA designer Richard Chai.

Attendees got to hear about how youthful passion led all three industry experts to their respective careers today. Regardless of whether you end up in magazines, as a designer, or styling television and movie sets like the panelists one theme rang strong: be open minded to new opportunities, be creative, and always ask questions.

Fashion students sipped on Vitaminwater while listening to the wise words of the fashion elite. And a special treat at the end? Several lucky audience members walked away with iPad2′s, copies of Joe Zee and Eric Daman’s books, and a certain special someone got a cashmere cardigan designed by Richard Chai (lucky me!).

Fashion British Awards and Nick Knight Tribute To Alexander McQueen

At last night’s British Fashion Awards, Nick Knight debuted his short film tribute toAlexander McQueen, who was honored posthumously for Outstanding Achievement in Fashion Design.

The film was hauntingly scored by Bjork, styled by Edward Enninful, and features solely black models in the best of McQueen’s archives. “This film is my way of speaking about a very unique and important person who changed my life,” Knight noted. “My desire was to speak in some way about the dark and the light contained within Lee, and within us all.” [SHOWstudio]

“Most recently Hasan Hejazi 24 has completed his Masters in Fashion Design and Technology at The London College of Fashion with a successful collection of contemporary, playful, glamorous eveningwear. His main aim is to create garments that women will be excited and wowed by and most importantly they must feel powerful, confident and sexy. With a strong colour palette of pinks, blues and purples and with contrasting textures of goat fur and sequins this has surely been achieved.”
