The Wedding has passed, the Honeymoon is over, and Daniel Saynt and Rebecca Alexander are back home to bring you some of the daily bashes and fashion stories you have come to loveth. Thanks to everyone who shared your kind words during these past two weeks. The trip was a blast and we’re psyched to be married and back home.

Every Fashion Week you tend to meet some new people, and you end up seeing them at all the shows. I had that happen to me this year with a certain someone from Black % White PR named Kelly Mills. Her and her partner Mari J. Brooklyn were two familiar faces at a bunch of shows I went to. After meeting Kelly at the Telfar Show, we e-mailed a few times back and fourth, and she ended up telling me about this amazing project her and Mari were working on. They just started their own radio show that is taking place in Fashion Indie’s backyard, Dumbo, called Fashionably Yours. Sadly I wasn’t able to make the premiere party, but I feel like I owe it to not only to Kelly, but to all you indies to post the commercial for the show.  So here goes nothing!

If you missed the Brooklyn Royalty show during Fashion Indie Week Brooklyn, and then you failed us again by missing the story we did on it, here is another chance to check out the Spring 2009 collection. Though this is just a small sample of all the pieces, it is a pretty good taste of what to expect. I personally love it. Can’t wait to get my hands on all of this!

Ever the innovators, Dutch design duo Viktor & Rolf have chosen to forgo the Paris runway this season, and instead present their new collection on their website.  This allows all fans to see the “Funny Face” collection (S/S 2009) at the same time, instead of getting it second hand.  

The designers describe the October 2 show as “an actual show filmed in the Grand Salon of our virtual house.”  We’ll also get to see exclusive backstage footage of the show’s prep.

I just thought I would let everybody know that Fashion Indie Creator Daniel Saynt and Editor-in-Chief Rebecca Alexander were married Saturday. Yes they are now bound together by law. Here are some photos of the beautiful nuptials.

On Tuesday, we played host to Net Mixer, one of the cities top business professional networking events. The crowd was a mix of fashion types, future wall street barons, and industry entreprenuers. We played nice with Fashion Indie lovers and met some fresh faces in fashion who were looking forward to meeting again. If you missed it, you missed a great event with some up and coming players in fashion.

Yesterday was a serious adventure. With only ten days of planning we put together a fashion parade on the Brooklyn Bridge featuring 20 models, 7 designers, and a following of Brooklynites, tourists, journalist, and paparazzi which witnessed what will go down in history as the longest runway show the fashion world has ever seen.

I’m so excited that the event was a success and want to thank all the indies out there who made this happen.

Samantha Lennon on make-up and Dennis Bailey of DABarts on hair were absolutely amazing.

The models we’re spectacular and managed to walk the whole bridge without a single trip up (some even came running on the tailend in 5 inch heels).

Love Brigade, New York Couture, Brooklyn Royalty, Mandate of Heaven, San and Soni, Angel Lust, Zulema Griffin, Rachel Antoff, and Dannijo presented amazing collections which we’re looking forward to seeing more of all this week (Zulema’s show is tonight).

All and all this was an amazing event and we’re so excited to have been able to put it together.

So if you were reading the site on Monday (of course you were ) you probably saw our post asking if we were the most hated site in fashion. You see, some writer over at Missbehave Magazine, decided to call us a bunch of overweight, undersexed writers who look like the love child of Chunk from the Goonies and that dude from Mask (I think his name was Cher).  We decided to defend ourselves, which then launched a massive comment spree on both our sites. Most people flew their Team Fashion Indie flags, her best friends flew their Team Smelly LA Trash flags, and we ended up with a pretty decent blog war.

Well, we’ve decided to be the bigger person and end this shit by not responding (yeah right).

Here’s the latest response from this quasi-internet celeb…

Dear [insert name of butterfaced writer here],

We’re not offended, we just get on the defense whenever some internet celebrity wannabe gets an rock hard for us and feels bashing us might be a way to get some attention.

Since you started this bash battle, we’ll be the ones to end it.

We didn’t Google you cause we knew we wouldn’t find anything, we just checked out your profile on Missbehave which had a link to your MySpace. But for future reference, when you are in journalism it’s a smart thing to do a little research before you write something. We decided to do this before we went after you, we found your myspace and listed 18 as your age cause we assumed you wouldn’t be the type to lie about something like that since most 18 year olds aren’t taken seriously by publishers and magazines. We were wrong.

You didn’t just say our site had a mean undertone. You didn’t just write it on your personal site, to your tiny group of devotees. You wrote it on Missbehave’s site, which probably doesn’t get too much traffic, but still, it’s not exactly good press for our company. You even had to give your post it’s own tag category, “Dumb Websites”. (though I’m sure all future posts in this category will be toned down, you can’t go around calling a website’s writers underfucked, fatties with anger issues without getting a couple letters from lawyers).

Obviously, you put a lot of thought into your post and considering it’s the longest article you’ve ever written for the site, I’m sure you really wanted it to be your Pulitzer piece which means you probably knew we’d retaliate.

We’re not some massive company, we’re just a small band of fashion people with a passion for indie fashion. Most of our posts are focussed around new designers, photoshoots, models and industry news. Usually, only a handful are “Opinion” pieces in which our writers get a chance to rant about whatever they have on their minds. We always encourage our readers to bash us back or tell us we’re assholes or say that we don’t know what we’re talking about, it opens up conversations and gets people involved in what we’re saying. We love it so much we usually feature our favorite hate mail.

We’re a pretty tight knit group of writers here at Fashion Indie. We might not be the best, we might not have taken Fashion Writing 101, we might forget to spell check from time to time or might misuse a “there/their/or they’re” (we’re working on that one), but attack one of us and you attack all of us. Which means your bash on Fashion Indie affects all ten of our writers and, as President, that pisses me off especially.

I will always do my utmost defend our writers.

They work really hard and write some of the most original articles the online fashion world has to offer. They might not be Vogue-worthy in the eyes of an elitist like you, but we love them and will always feature anything they have to say.

If you have a problem with our site then don’t read it. But don’t make it your mission to talk shit about us if you aren’t prepared to have shit talked about you. The lawsuit talk was a joke, you’re not actually stupid enough to think we were being serious? Please, do you think our lawyers want to be bothered whenever some failed writer decides to bash us?

Oh and thanks for admitting to sucking on photographers dicks, really classy.

Basically Sarah, go fuck yourself.

PS. We’ll probably see you tonight at Supreme Trading. We’ll be the group of people in corner flinging lime slices at your head and booing whenever they hand you the mike. Why they would choose such a loser to judge a beauty pageant is beyond me, but I guess stranger things have happened in fashion.

You can be a part of this monumental walk. Just show up at the Brooklyn Bridge today at 6PM. Fashion Indie reps will be at both sides of the Bridge with information on the designers showcasing and schedules for the rest of the activities to take place during fashionindie week Brooklyn. Guru Energy will be giving out drinks to all those on the Bridge and you’ll be able to see a procession of models rocking previews of all the collections you’ll see during the week.

Just be sure to be there early and take lots of photos. This ones gonna be one for the history books.

So ever since Fashion Indie hit Facebook we have met a ton of cool people, and a lot of devoted fans. I was looking around Facebook, doing my usual snooping around, when I found the single most devoted fan of all time. Turns out my good friend Ali likes Fashion Indie more than I thought. A Fashion Indie link was put in her religious views, now thats dedication. Fashion Indie does what we do for you guys and it’s always amazing to see something like this. We love our readers, we love our fans (especially Daniel Saynt), and we even love our haters. For all you Indie die hards out there make sure you join cultindie asap too, because once it’s full it’s full, and you definately don’t want to left behind. Thanks for the love Ali you’re the best!

While the three designers have previously dabbled in swim pieces for their shows, this will be the first time they plan to produce it for wholesale distribution. We will keep you posted on all that is Threeasfour, after all, they are one of my fave designers.

BROOKLYN’S INDIE DESIGNERS BRIDGE THE GAP

There’s Fashion Week in NYC, which hits Bryant Park Sept. 5-12. Then there’s Brooklyn Fashion Week, which launches Monday. And then there’s Fashion Indie Week Brooklyn. Confused? Don’t be. Something huge sets apart Indie Week from the other two style events: the Brooklyn Bridge.

On Tuesday, the landmark’s walkway will be transformed into a fashion runway to mark the start of the borough’s underground designer celebration, which runs through Sept. 7.

Models will begin walking from the Brooklyn side of the bridge at 6 p.m. and should reach Manhattan at around 6:50 p.m.

Local designers showcasing their work include San & Soni, Love Brigade, Sheila Frank, Alicia Trimbell, Mandate of Heaven and Harriet’s Alter Ego.

“We found designers who are based in Brooklyn and designers with a very strong following in Brooklyn. It’s not just about editors, buyers and celebrities, but also the people who are buying the collections,” says Daniel Saynt, president of Fashion Indie Media, the organization behind the event.

Having grown from three shows last year to 12 this season, the group’s largest event is expected to be the N.Y. Couture Show at the club Mansion on Sept. 10. “We’re expecting about 3,000 people,” says Saynt. “All our fashion shows become a party, and we have giveaways throughout the night.”

Kate Moss is not cast in gold in a provocative yoga pose for the work of Marc Quinn. The 2006 piece titled  Siren, will be unveiled today at the British museum.

As only befits one of the world’s greatest supermodels, Siren’s stats are impressive. It weighs in at 50 kilograms, is worth £1.5 million and is said to be the largest gold statue to be made in the world since the time of Ancient Egypt.

“I thought the next thing to do would be to make a sculpture of the person who’s the ideal beauty of the moment,” Quinn says of his supermodel subject.

Moss’ latest rendering joins works by the likes Damien Hirst and Anthony Gormley as part of the British Museum’s Statuephilia exhibition, which runs from October 4 to January 25.

Maurices will sell the winning design from its Project Handbag contest at all of its stores beginning Sept. 8. 
With an eye for what’s classic and practical, Christina Oertel, a 27-year-old graphic designer and mother of two from Plover, Wis., won the contest staged by Maurices and FashionIndie.com.

“Christina’s design is fun, stylish and practical, and has a twentysomething attitude that perfectly represents the Maurices brand,” said Lisa Rhodes, executive vice president and chief merchandising officer of the Duluth, Minn.-based specialty chain catering to trendy girls in small towns. 

The contest started in January, when aspiring designers and customers submitted handbag sketches. Of the 243 submissions, FashionIndie narrowed the field to 10 possible winners, and 16,000 votes cast on line determined three finalists. A panel of fashion experts selected Oertel as the grand-prize winner in May.

The winning “bag takes a somewhat classic style and enhances it with layering and great detailing,” Oertel said. “The silver and wood accents play off each other, and because the outside is sophisticated and structured, I added bright fabric to the inside to make it more fun.” 

A tag on the bag indicates it was designed just for Maurices by Oertel. Aside from the recognition, she also won a $500 Maurices shopping spree.

And their justification for becoming “designers” goes something like, “I like to shop for clothes so that must mean I can design clothes too”.

The fact is that celebs are signing simply merchandising deals with apparel makers. Then they sit down with a design team, maybe fill out some kind of questionaire detailing “what i like to wear” and “what i don’t like to wear”. Then the team shows them some samples, the celeb plays “like it, like it, hate it, like it…” and voila! A new celebrity designer is born.

Fortunately for us most of these fake celebrity brands fall flat on their faces. Let’s hope that this sickening “celeb designer” trend dies the quick and painless (for us) death it so richly deserves.

Recently our beloved Editor Rebecca Alexander was asked to do an interview with Denim Therapy. Well, the article was written and is ready for all Rebecca’s amazing fans (and haters) to read. Believe it or not she isn’t the fashion snob that you all think she is. 

Alexander says that it’s okay to wear Levi’s or Gap jeans, as long as you feel confident and sexy, and they fit your body type. “My biggest pet peeve is seeing someone on the street who is wearing ill-fitting denim, like two sizes too small or big, or their butt crack is peaking.”

I flip flop around a lot. Right now I’m really loving Chilean designer Maria Cornejo.

Tokyo. It’s like being transported into the future. Crowded underground cities, sidewalks built above the streets, micro-mini cars. And everything is happy and clean. I don’t know how they do it.

I received a tip this morning from Shanghai that has me wishing for some retaliation.
