Spring Ahead: Trends for 2010

If you are over winter and already looking forward to all the things that spring and summer bring, then get started with these three trends for the warmer months of this new year.

A drastic change from the bright and often neon colors that we saw this time last year, neutrals ran the runways. Designers like Erin Fetherston and Nina Ricci used a very soft color palette throughout their collections, so expect to see these simple colors around for awhile this year.

DESIGNER TO KNOW: Reid Peppard

DESIGNER TO KNOW: Reid PeppardRied Peppard work is basically wearable taxidermy making it very creepy, but totally cool. I’ll admit, I’m not really down for wearing a mouse around my neck but am obsessed with his wing pieces. On par with feathers as far as trends go, these wings are gorgeous and totally editorial worthy. Surprisingly versatile, these wings look just as good in this minimalist shoot as they would in something more boho or beach inspired. Check out more of Reid Peppard’s work on his blog.

Nevertheless, one can’t deny the appeal of one-of-a-kind, handmade quality and an excuse to waft around barefoot in your peace beads and gauze peasant blouse. Each piece is custom made out of antique materials and things found in nature; think flowers, feathers and peacock tails. This is one of those things you’d want to be careful to wear on the right occasion to avoid looking costumed…but I doubt that’s possible, or if someone bold enough to sport one at any given moment would even care. I know I wouldn’t.
