Earlier today, Ferragamo and Creative Director Massimiliano Giornetti showed debuted their men ready to wear Spring 2012 collection. This inspiration behind the designs was an artistic yet rugged man with a refined & tailored style.

Ferragamo stuck to their clean and tailored silhouettes which could be seen through the double-breasted jackets and high-waist trousers with pleats. This isn’t the first show where I less than appreciated the head wear. (See Burberry Prosum) The difference between the show is that I feel these hats are more cohesive with the collection.

The man who wears Ferragamo has an undeniable swagger and charm. Many of the sweaters, jackets, trousers, bags, and shoes can fit effortlessly in most classes and add a dash of luxury along with impeccable style.

Miuccia Prada and chief executive officer Patrizio Bertelli own a 95% majority stake in the company and will sell about 15% of that, while Banca IMI-Intesa Sanpaolo Group is expected to sell its 5.1% share, thus meeting Prada’s goal of a 20% public listing.

Whereas Prada’s decision to go public in Hong Kong is an attempt to capitalize on China’s rapidly growing luxury sector, fellow Italians Ferragamo and Moncler, who are also going public, will list on the Italian Stock Exchange.

Despite its record year of profits, Prada still had a debt of $575 million at the end of the fiscal year in January, leading to speculation that going public was a means to get their affairs all squared up. [WWD]

1. Loveday 31, Astoria
Owner and curator Ivona Bilicic knows her stuff – she used to be a buyer at famous rip-off Manhattan vintage store Screaming Mimi’s. But the merchandise at Loveday 31 is far from overpriced and much more carefully selected. Eccentric metallic shirts from the 80s share a rack with silk Givenchy shirts and Prada dresses. Uniquely shaped vintage bags are shown among locally designed jewelry and antique brooches. I recently bought a black, intricately knit shirt with metallic silver threads and 7-inch long fringe for $40.

2. Beacon’s Closet, Williamsburg & Park Slope
Perhaps the most well-known local Brooklyn thrift store chain, Beacon’s Closet has something for everyone. Both locations have their fine points: the more-crowded Williamsburg store has about four times the merchandise ranging from beat-up tees to Pucci pumps while the slightly more refined selection at Park Slope requires less digging and waiting. Some of my best buys include an $18 Marc by Marc Jacobs sweater and $18 brand new Betseyville shoes.

3. Buffalo Exchange, Williamsburg
You won’t find a ton of vintage merchandise at Buffalo Exchange, but you might come across some cool new digs along the way. Designer denim for men and women usually costs less than $20 and a brand new chunky necklace will set you back about $8. There are great vintage finds too, like a pair of Marc Jacobs sandals I bought for $24 a couple years ago.

4. Housing Works, Upper East Side
Where do all of the wealthy UES women take their Ferragamos and Pradas when they don’t want them any more? Housing Works, of course. In my opinion, this location is the best of the 10 retail stores around the city. There aren’t a million downtown vintage hunters in your face, and the merchandise comes straight from Park and Madison Avenues. It also has the best vintage jewelry selection -  I have at least a dozen pieces from my summer living in the same neighborhood.

5. Monk Vintage, Williamsburg
Where can you buy a rainbow striped bow tie, cummerbund and pocket square matching set? Monk Vintage in Brooklyn has about 10 for you to choose from. From the tutus suspended from the ceiling to mounds of vintage jewelry, you will find super fun and unique vintage pieces here. Dresses run from around $25 – $40 while a full suit will cost you about $100. Everything is in pretty good condition and the store is small, so you won’t spend hours looking for an outfit. The peach Polo Ralph Lauren Western shirt I got for $35 is still one of my favorites.

6. Goodwill, Chelsea
Of all the Goodwills in the city, why this one? Are the workers nicer? Absolutely not, but the selection is all that. This fairly new outlet isn’t too crowded, but it is fairly organized. If you’re familiar with Goodwill, expect all of the same prices and merchandise categories. Last week, I found a leather Coach computer bag in good condition for $20.

7. Vintage Thrift, Gramercy
From Manolos to mink throw pillows, this store literally has everything. You can get a stack of records with your dining room table and Italian designer ties with a retro KitchenAid mixer. Not only has Vintage Thrift been named Zagat’s #1 NYC thrift store four years in a row, profits go to The United Jewish Council of the East Side.

8. Viceversa, Williamsburg
Maybe the most overlooked Williamsburg thrift store, Viceversa is definitely worth your time. Stocked with equal parts men’s and women’s apparel, you can find everything from red cowboy boots to sequined muumuus. Prices here are dynamite – you can snag a fur coat for as little as $40. I bought an 80s rainbow sequin dress for $20 last year; I recently saw the same exact dress on Nasty Gal retailing for more than $200.

9. The Antiques Garage, Chelsea
Lauren from Corvus Noir introduced me to The Antiques Garage last summer when I interviewed her for FashionIndie. This place is insane. From 9 am – 5 pm every Saturday and Sunday, you can walk through this concrete jungle of every antique imaginable. It can be a little overwhelming, so take it slow – one table at a time. I bought a gorgeous leather, color-block bag with a chain strap for $10 the last time I was there.

10. No Relation Vintage, East Village
Nestled among the dozens of nail salons and pizzerias on First Avenue, No Relation Vintage is a rare gem. Little nooks throughout the store hold specifics like shoes or sundresses while scarves sit in a basket by the register, waiting to be impulsed purchased. In true East Village fashion, you won’t find a shortage of leather jackets or distressed band tees. Many a silk scarf from this old school thrift store hangs in my apartment.

1. Buy shoes that fit. If you disregard this step, you will fail to stay comfortable in heels even if you follow every other rule. If the shoes are too big, you toes will curl under as you walk, attempting to hold on to the sole for dear life. If they are too small, pinching and swelling will happen immediately.  Shoes were physically constructed to hit certain parts of the foot, and when you ignore that fact it can be the beginning of a long line of foot injuries.  No matter how much you love those too-small vintage Ferragamos, do as Goldilocks and search until you find a pair just right.

2. Break in your heels before taking them out into the world. When you buy a new pair of shoes, wear them around your house before hitting the pavement. Try a few short sessions of running around indoors to break them in without hurting yourself.  You will walk with more confidence, the shoe will begin to form to your foot, and the bottoms will scuff slightly to prevent slipping.

3. Don’t be afraid of insoles. Feet sliding in a strappy shoe? Find a non-slip insole that will keep your foot in place. Do you have a low arch or sensitive soles? Gel inserts can be arch supporters and therefore life savers if you’re going to be on your feet all day.

4. Learn to walk properly in heels. 1. Posture is key: back straight, chest forward, head up and shoulders back. 2. Tightening your stomach muscles will keep your core strong and prevent all of your weight from falling on your tootsies. 3. Take long strides and keep those knees from bending so you aren’t clopping down like Bigfoot. Try to place your heel and toe down at the same time, or your toe down first and then your heel (the opposite of walking in flats).  Walking heel to toe could snap a stiletto or an ankle. 4. Your knees are best friends, keep them close to each other. 5. To walk like a runway model, keep your upper body tight and strong but let your hips sway. You will walk with swagger and prevent that awful sharp pain in the balls of your feet that comes from stomping.

6. There is no shame in taking a seat if you can. DO NOT remove your heels until you’re done wearing them for the day. Your feet will swell slightly after taking them off, so it will be harder to get them back on once you’ve allowed them to relax. If you are in an environment where seating is available and sitting is appropriate, take a seat every 20-30 minutes. This will let an inanimate object support your weight for awhile.

Ferragamo‘s first social media campaign, the W list, is launching online today. This is an exciting new project from Creative Director, Massimiliano Giornetti, surrounding the iconic W bag. The site will serve as a chic destination for sharing inspirational stories, locales, and ideas resulting in a one-of-a-kind W bag inspired by the winner.

Prior to launch, Giornetti invited Ferragamo girls and fashion insiders such as Selita E. Banks, Fabiola Beracasa, Elettra Wiedemann, Shell Cardon, Poppy De Villeneuve, Genevieve Jones, Irina Lazareanu, Louise Roe, Lydia Fenet, and Kelsey Chow to share their inspirational stories.

Angelina Jolie made an appearance at her Salt premiere with her husband at her side and Ferragamo on her toes. The actress showed up to the event in London wearing Ferragamo’s nude peep-toe pumps with a gold heel. The shoes were made specifically for the star upon request and were worn to the LA premiere of her movie as well.

Salvatore Ferragamo have announced the launch of the iPad case, among the first brands in the luxury sector to do so, for Summer 2010 ranging from $290 to $390 at retail. As one of the world’s largest manufacturers of luxury leather goods, Ferragamo offers an iPad case in European farmed calfskin leather as well as a beige canvas style with brown leather trim and exterior leather strap. Leather colors include black, mandarin, and moss green.

Apparently, the new Costco on 116th in New York City is now selling designer goods at a discount. The Chanel bag will run you $1,999, Burberry’s mini satchel for $1,019.99, Tod’s medium shopper handbag for $549.99 and a Ferragamo “Marissa” handbag for $629.99.

President Elect Obama is geting ready to take office, and the hype about who’s designs he is going to wear on inaguarion day are already swirling. WWD is hosting a crap ton of pictures from all the biggest designers of their designs for the soon to be President’s suits on the historic day. Designers like Marc Jacobs, Sean John, D Squared, Ferragamo, Thom Browne and Rag and Bone have all submitted designs. For all the images head over to WWD and check them out.

PS: Does this completely annoy anyone else besides me? He’s our President to be who cares what he’s wearing? All that matters is that he does something to turn our country around.
