FIRST LOOK: Ports 1961 Pre-Spring 2010

On Tuesday we were invited to view the Ports 1061 Pre-Spring 2010 collection, entitled “Tea Room Collection”. The collection is a 20’s-looking mix of menswear inspired pieces, metallic threads and flapper-esque dresses. It takes inspiration from Charles Mackintosh and Margaret Macdonald, an internationally successful Scottish interior designer and architect and his artist wife. The clean silhouette comes alive with Onyx and Pearl embellishments, shades of plum and nude, paddle sleeves, gold metallic tweed, and graphic velvet.
Previous collections are available for viewing on the Ports 1961 website.

STORY OF: Gloves

Gloves are not just made to keep your hands warm during the winter months, they have been worn by women as fashion items since the 13th century. Gloves became a symbol of status depending on the amount of embellishment, and the trends that catch on are often catapulted to the mainstream by a music of film fashion icon.
RUNWAY RUNDOWN: Alberta Ferretti, S/S 2009

There’s a little Bohemian spirit in all of us, and who better to showcase that carefree edge than Alberta Ferretti? Although a theme within the collection is somewhat lacking, fringe and draping are two major components of her runway looks. If you’re looking for a label, I guess you could consider Ferretti’s girl a Grecian flapper, but a glamorous, sensual well styled one. Oh, and I absolutely love Ferretti’s play on the cocktail dress!
