Neither party would divulge the dollar amount of the settlement, however, a source tells the New York Daily News that the sum is “nowhere near” the $46,000 a month the super was asking for. The terms of the agreement, although not requiring the judge’s approval, will  be presented to the court today as a courtesy.

Both Evangelista’s and Pinault’s names were dragged through the proverbial mud during the ugly two-day legal battle. Evangelista’s attorney William Beslow claimed that Pinault wanted her to have the pregnancy terminated while Pinault’s attorney David Aronson insinuated that Evangelista had “taken steps” to get pregnant.

The supermodel was forced to admit that “there’s not a lot of demand” for her anymore and the PPR chairman admitted that he bought himself a $100,000 watch but couldn’t remember what he spent on Augie’s  ”piano thing” for Christmas — let alone what he even bought his son for his fourth birthday.

But no doubt the harshest bit of information that came out during the court proceedings had nothing to do with little Augustin, but rather with Pinault’s wife Salma Hayek.

Pinault revealed that Hayek had a “very difficult pregnancy” with their daughter Valentina, whom they feared might have Down syndrome. Pinault asked Evangelista to “delay the legal recognition process (of son Augustin) until after the birth of Valentina,” to which she agreed.

Yesterday, however, Augie’s mom and dad parted on far better terms with Pinault advising Evangelista to call him in the morning after coming to an agreement over his child support payments. Aronson summed it all up very nicely, saying “Everybody’s glad for the sake of the child that it’s done.”

Tell that to Salma Hayek, though nothing says “I’m sorry for airing our very private  laundry in public, oh and for knocking up a crazy supermodel hellbent on ruining out lives” like another $12 million “precautionary measure” house. [NYDN]

Allegedly deadbeat dad François-Henri Pinault, who’s married to and has a daughter — Valentina — with actress Salma Hayek(-Pinault), took the stand yesterday where he was grilled by Evangelista’s lawyer, Bill Beslow.

Beslow claimed that once Evangelista told the billionaire that she was pregnant, “He suggested she terminate the pregnancy,” something the PPR chairman/CEO vehemently denied. Pinault later insinuated that Evangelista had “taken steps” to get pregnant, even though they had only slept together seven times.

If we’re talking about Linda Evangelista flying off the rails and poking holes in the condom, this might just be the trial of the century.

But I digress.

When the super broke the news that she was indeed in a family way, Pinault  made it very clear that they were not going to be a family, but that he would “take my responsibility.” Then asked why he hadn’t paid Evangelista a single red cent in child support during the first years of Augustin’s life he responded, “She didn’t ask and I didn’t offer.”

Evangelista had planned to support Augie herself until her contract with L’Oreal ended in 2010, as did her relationship with Hard Rock founder Peter Morton. “She is not looking to piggyback her lifestyle on Mr. Pinault,” Beslow said. “She is looking to continue the lifestyle that Augie’s had.”

Pinault’s lawyer David Aronson, however, is not buying it, calling Evangelita’s request for $46,000/month in child support “ridiculous.”

“This is a classic case of someone trying to bootstrap herself into disguised alimony,” he said. Beslow objected, arguing that Evangelista hadn’t requested that much, but Aronson cited the list of expenses she gave to Pinault, which included $90,000-a-year for both a full-time and part-time nanny and $175,000 for a bodyguard and driver.

She also wants a home for Augie on par with the $12 million mansion Pinault put into a trust for Valentina following a temporary split with Hayek, as a precautionary measure in case of divorce. Beslow in turn brought up the fact that Pinault has never taken his son on any of the high-priced vacations as he had with Valentina, nor did he bother to show up for Augustin’s third birthday party even though he was in New York at the time.

It’s unlikely that Linda Evangelista will gouge François-Henri Pinault for the record-breaking $46,000, but from someone who famously demanded $10,000 to roll out of bed, it’s a perfectly reasonable request. My only concern is how Salma Hayek’s handling all of this; though if I were to guess, there’s probably another $12 million manse in her not-too distant future. [NYDN]

Confirming a week-old rumor — ancient history in the age of the status update — that the designer cum photographer would return to the house that Saint Laurent built nearly twelve years after departing for Dior Homme, YSL today announced Slimane’s appointment as its new creative director.

Slimane’s return is described as an attempt by PPR to “ramp up” YSL’s development in order to compete with Chanel and Christian Dior.

As a Frenchman and someone industry insiders feel “understands YSL better than anyone else,” Slimane is expected to be received better than the long-beleaguered Stefano Pilati.  Saint Laurent, when he was still living, openly derided the designer while his business and life partner, Pierre Bergé refused to even acknowledge Pilati’s existence.

Despite his standing as the preeminent menswear designer of the past decade, this will be Slimane’s first foray into womenswear — aside from some feminine suiting he did for the likes of Nicole Kidman and Madonna. Slimane’s designs under YSL will debut with the house’s resort collection this June.

The knighthood, bestowed by president Nicolas Sarkozy, recognizes Hayek for her “services to the French Republic,” notably, her work as ”director and producer (and) active member of charitable foundations for 23 years.” The fact that Hayek’s old man is Francois-Henri Pinault, a close friend of Sarkozy and the head of PPR thus the owner of pretty much everything including Gucci, Balenciaga and Yves Saint Laurent, I’m sure had nothing to do with it. Nor does the fact that Hayek’s father-in-law, Francois Pinault is simultaneously being named a Grand Officer of the Legion of Honour.

But the French are croaking their disapproval nonetheless, calling Hayek’s appointment a joke, “an insult to France” and as a result Napoleon Bonaparte, who instituted the honor in 1802 in an attempt to replace the nobility, is “turning in his grave.” One honoree has even refused to accept the award. Henri Torre, the crotchety 78-year-old  former minister and member of Sarkozy’s ruling party sassed, “Too many people have been nominated who do not deserve to be honoured” and claimed that the award had been tainted with “croneyism” by “naming any old people.”

It’s one thing to say that the Mexican actress is undeserving of being made a French knight, but calling her old is really stepping over the line, France. [Telegraph,Vogue UK]

Pinault, chairman and CEO of PPR — the conglomerate behind Gucci, Alexander McQueen, Stella McCartney, Balenciaga, Yves Saint Laurent, Bottega Veneta and a slew of other brands — is one of the richest men in the world…and Evangelista is getting hers.

If the super gets her way — and when doesn’t she? — that 46K “would probably be the largest support order in the history of the Family Court,” says some professional legal dude.

While Pinault is busy making it rain for Valentina, his 3-year-old daughter with Hayek, there’s a draught when it comes to Evangelista’s 4-year-old son, Augustin James — meanwhile, you do the math — with Linda’s lawyer claiming, ”He’s just been sitting back, paying zero.”

Among the costs Evangelista is looking to gouge Pinault on are an $80,000/year nanny and private, gun-toting drivers at $175,000/yr. While the judge seemed sympathetic to those costs — after all, we’re talking about a star here — he immediately dismissed the $7500/month vacation expenses. Scrooge.

Evangelista, who’s worth some $8 million — “and she earned, last year, $1.8 million” — is still a working mother and boy was she working that day in court. When the judge asked her just how many hours she worked in a given week, Linda calmly responded:

“On days when I do not work, I am working on my image. I have to hit the gym. I have beauty appointments. I have to work toward my next job and maintaining my image, just like an athlete.”

To publicly “brush its shoulders off” LVMH, Hermés invited Salma Hayek and husband to a large, private party celebrating its new store opening in Paris.

But wait a tick… Salma is an A-lister – she goes to lotsa red carpet events.Why does this event hold special meaning?

Because of the spicy Mexican actress’ husband, François-Henri Pinault. The man is famous for denying LVMH from taking over Gucci in 1999. (Pinault owns PPR, LVMH’s biggest competitor.) I don’t think it’s a coincidence Pinault and Salma were smiling at the Hermés celebration. Those cheeky smirks were aimed directly at evil LVMH.

Lesson learned: when in doubt, call Salma. Her hotness has the power to make snakes dance and fire appear. TAKE THAT LMVH.
