#NYFW Cheat Sheet: Moncler Grenoble Fall/Winter 2012

Let it be known that Moncler Grenoble completely shut it down at its Fall/Winter 2012-13 presentation Sunday night. Show attendees walked down the sloping hill to Wollman Rink in Central Park where hot rum ciders and roasted chestnuts awaited us before the show began. The rink, surround by trees set aglow by brilliantly colored lights, soon filled with the sights of figure skaters and sounds of The Harlem Boys Choir belting out Frank Sinatra’s New York, New York, all dressed in Moncler. The numbers that followed were truly spectacular, and you can watch them all right here.

Color palette: Red, white and blue
Mood: Magical, nostalgic, enlivening
Statement Pieces: The whole damn show was a statement
Front Row Name Drops: Phillip Bloch, Garance Dore, Elizabeth Hurley, Margherita Missoni, Amy Sacco, Alek Wek, Scott Schuman and Waris Ahluwalia were all in the house
Gossip: “Oh my god this is amazing. I’m going to cry.”

#NYFW Round-Up: FashionIndie’s Faves from New York Spring 2012

There’s a definite consensus around the FashionIndie office regarding this season at the tents: lackluster. Gone was the excitement and the thrill of the new and in its stead stood a circus comprised of the old guard impatiently appraising the crop of would-be streetstyle stars and the army of bloggers hanging about as they waded through the muck of the nameless and the irrelevant to find a collection onto which to pin their ever-dwindling hopes . Still, there were a few shows that set the five barely-beating hearts of FashionIndie racing and had our backs aching to be clothed in their bright and bold designs.

Rumors are hitting the web that Leo’s on the short list to play Frank Sinatra in a new film Martin Scorsese is set to direct. He’s got some stiff competition though as George Clooney and Johnny Depp are also looking to play Ol’ Blue Eyes. Who do you think should play the Italian crooner?

Heads Up! The Hat Trend

Normally I think that GQ caters to the pretty-boy audience. You know, the guys who value their hair more than life itself or would slap an old woman for scuffing their Hugo Boss shoes. But for once in my life, I came across a GQ feature that is beneficial to the indie crowd…yes boys, a guide to hats! We all know that hats are becoming more and more popular this fall season, so don’t get caught wearing them the wrong way!

Let’s start with the obvious-The fedora, made popular by Frank Sinatra, is a timeless hat. Felt in the winter. Straw in the summer. Dress it up or dress it down…just make sure you wear it (or any hat for that matter) the right way:

Dress Up: If you're going for the more formal look, cock the hat slightly to the side. You'll be looking like a fox in seconds!

Dress Down: Casual attire means carefree. Tilt the hat back on your head so you don't look so damn serious.

Hats are all about framing your face. Too big, too small, wrong style…you’ve got problems. Here are a few more styles to check out:

Porkpie: Orlando Bloom rocks this hat...definitely a hat for a guy with a thinner face.

News Boy: A lighthearted touch to any outfit. Looks great with vintage!

Walking Hat: Grad one in tweed and it goes with just about anything! Perfect for a brisk fall day!

Oh, and one last tip. Don’t choose an outfit around the hat. A man that tries too hard isn’t exactly charming…and for God’s sake, it’s an accessory.
