Fred Astaire and Ginger Rogers were a famous pair and had been in many films together—but one of the most stylish, in my opinion, was Swing Time. It featured Fred’s signature suit & bow tie look on his character Lucky, while Ginger played Penny– who was dressed in many stunning dresses.
I especially love the dress she danced in here—and when you watch the movie, you wonder how she was able to dance the way she did while wearing it. It’s such a classic look and that would even fit in with the style of today. I know I’d definitely love to wear it.
1930’s style is certainly epitomized thought the movie in so many different ways—you can’t help but fall in love with the brilliant costuming by Bernard Newman.

If the tents at Bryant Park aren’t exciting enough for you, come February’s Fashion Week, the International Center of Photography is sure to feed your extra glam craving. ICP curator, Brian Wallis, was recently tipped on the eBay sale of a lifetime: 4,000 of Harper’s Bazaar photographer Martin Munkacsi’s long-lost negatives. Wallis jumped on the listing, driving to the seller in Connecticut and bathing in unreleased photographs of Jean Harlow, Katharine Hepburn, and Fred Astaire from ancient issues of Harper’s Bazaar. There is no word on when the show will hit the museum floor, but cross your fingers of a little post-runway museum browsing!
