In other words, it’s time for the biggest bikini showdown of the year. And now that 80° has hit NYC, we’re dying to wip out our swimsuits, lay out under Mr. Sun and ~~tan the living shit out of our skin~~ get a nice, healthy dose of vitamin D! Cinco de Mayo: a Mexican holiday, an American tradition. Though the holiday was created to celebrate Mexican heritage and pride, other than the city of Puebla- where the victorious Battle of Puebla took place in 1862- it is mostly celebrated in America. Nicknamed Drinko de Mayo, (because we need every reason to make up an excuse to drink) this holiday has been gaining nationwide popularity over the years, including in the fashion industry.

The day-long fiesta is all about bold colors and embroidered flowers. From margaritas to mariachi bands, here are a 6 vibrant Cinco de Mayo- inspired garments that will make you want to join the party!

Giambattista Valli Rumored to Design Collection for Macy’s

Macy’s is in a European state of mind, it seems. Following collections by Brit designers Kinder Aggugini and Matthew Williamson in February and April, respectively, and — kaiser on a roll — Karl Lagerfeld‘s collection launching in September, Macy’s next collabo is allegedly with noted Italian fox, Giambattista Valli.

The involvement of the four designers is part of an effort to bring more “fashion excitment” and younger customers to Macy’s Impulse department, which sells brands like BCBG Max Azria, Free People and Kensie.

Though Macy’s has yet to confirm the news — according to one of their sassy reps, “We have not announced the next designer and do not comment on speculation.” — Vallis’ one-off collection is expected to hit stores in November. [WWD]

Urban Outfitters More Popular Than We Thought

Urban Outfitters and Anthropologie and Free People have grown a whopping 79% in sales second quarter.

According to the Wall Street Journal, they’ve “been attracting shoppers with an eclectic mix of full-price clothing and home goods in stores where employees create their own displays.” And instead of flooding the market, they plan to cap the number of stores at 250. “Big is the enemy of cool,” says the company’s founder.

Who still shops at Urban Outfitters? I get that there sales are pretty good, but otherwise that store is nauseating. If anyone doesn’t agree, let me know.

Searching through my second fave website, Popgloss.com (only second behind Fashion Indie of course), I found the coolest sandals. I’ve been trying to stay away from the ‘Gladiator Sandal” trend, yet it always attracts me. Then I found these, the Morgana Sandal from Free People. I know it’s surprising, but they are unique and very different than others I’ve seen recently. So kudos to whomever produced them, even if it is Free People, who are just one step away from being Urban Outfitters, but not on our shit list yet!
