Carine and Karl Go at It Again for Chanel

For someone who loves to dip his fingerless gloves into any and every thing, Karl Lagerfeld sure likes to keep things simple. Some times. Case in point, the multi-tasking, multi-hyphenate designer has tapped freelance stylist extraordinaire, Carine Roitfeld to style Chanel‘s upcoming spring/summer campaign.

Gone, however, is a cat-whiskered Freja Beha Erichsen jammed into a photo booth. For spring, it’s “all about athletics and the sea.…It’s very modern sportif and in black-and-white,” quote the Lagerfeld. Uncle Karl shot Roitfeld fave Saskia de Brauw and Naomi winner Joan Smalls over the weekend at the Hôtel du Cap-Eden-Roc in Antibes, France, but there’s no rest for the wicked — which would explain why he (almost) never takes off his glasses…giant bags and I’m not talking monogrammed — as the Kaiser then zipped off to Rome to photograph Arizona Muse for Fendi‘s fall campaign. One Management‘s Jade Jackson can currently be seen holding her own in H&M‘s fall/winter campaign alongisde supers Freja Beha Erichsen (IMG) and Anja Rubik (Next), lensed by Terry Richardson (Art Partner). Having recently walked in shows for Ohne Titel and Yigal Azrouel, Jade took time to speak with us about her favorite photo and what went into creating it.

Why do you love it?

I love the “caught in the moment” mood and the memories of working with such a lovely team of people that day.

Who took it?

Johan Sandberg (Artlist).

What were you thinking when it was taken?

“Think warm thoughts, think warm thoughts!” as the freezing cold Parisian temperatures chilled my bones.

How were you discovered?

The partner of a fashion designer told me I should go to a modelling agency. So I did — in Melbourne, Australia.

What’s your biggest challenge as a model?

Being thousands of miles away from my boyfriend and family for such long periods of time.

Elle.com Gets H&M into the e-Commerce Groove

H&M may have postponed its e-commerce site until spring of next year, but starting today at noon, you can buy select items from their fall collection through Elle.com.

The site will showcase four looks styled by an Elle editor with four or five pieces from each look available for purchase. According to an H&M spokeswoman:

“This will be a preview of what’s to come in spring 2012, when we launch our e-commerce site. We’re launching the e-boutique two days before we release the collection in stores, so when it sells out online, customers will be able to go to any H&M store in the U.S. on Sept. 1 to buy it.” [WWD]

Carine Roitfeld will reportedly honor the late, great Elizabeth Taylor for the September issue of V magazine.

Miss Taylor showing that elegance truly is learned.

According to Roitfeld, the Dame “had the kind of elegance that went far beyond clothes.”

This elegance will be captured by Mario Testino in a 72-page “fashion extravaganza” — my favorite kind of extravaganza behind the eleganza variety, of course — for the issue themed “heroes.”

Vogue Paris be damned — though it kind of already is — but I love that Carine is doing her own thing. Sister do it for yourself.

- An alleged source allegedly close to Kate Moss has allegedly confirmed to Vogue UK that the super will wear a dress by John Galliano to marry Jamie Hince. I’m just glad they finally picked up my call. [Vogue UK]

- Stella McCartney will be launching a new line of lingerie called Josephine Marrying that will make its debut crumpled up in the corner of Kate Moss’ conjugal bedroom. [Olyafirst]

- Paris Hilton apparently has no idea what’s going on in or around her vagina anymore. [Jezebel]

- Justin Bieber and Jimmy Fallon hop on each other’s schtick to parody the Bieb’s “Someday” fragrance. [Styleite]

Carine to Star as a Couture Client for W

Carine Roitfeld is one busy gal. In addition to styling Chanel‘s Fall 2011 campaign shot by Karl Lagerfeld and starring Freja Beha Erichsen, allegedly starting an independent fashion mag, musing for Barneys and allegedly starting her own fashion line, the former Vogue Paris editrix will step in front of the camera for a fashion feature in an upcoming issue of W.

Spotted Friday at the Givenchy mens show, Carine will once again be sitting front row at the July haute couture shows in Paris where she’ll be impersonating a client for W. Paolo Roversi is rumored to be shooting the story.

Meanwhile, this sounds even better than that Carine Roitfeld-inspired editorial a few months back, though one can only hope that they dig up “Cardboard Tom Ford” again. [WWD]

A preview of the Carine Roitfeld-styled Chanel Fall 2011 ad campagin debuted at the Cannes Film Festival. Starring house favorite Freja Beha Erichsen and shot by everyone’s favorite multi-hyphenate photog, Karl Lagerfeld, the ads use a photobooth as a backdrop.

As these are only previews, I’ll reserve my total and complete judgement for later. Though I have to say I’m not impressed. I mean, we’re talking three superstars here and a photobooth has been done by everyone and their mother.

I could, however, end up loving that shot of Freja with her back to the camera in that lace number, probably because it has Carine written all over it.

Karl’s Got a Fairy Tale Ending for Chanel Cruise 2011

Kalr Lagerfeld, fresh off his recent cinematic triumph (?) with a series of short films for Magnum Ice Cream, will debut his new 30-minute film, The Tale of a Fairy, at the close of the Chanel Cruise 2011/12 collection on Monday, May 9th.

The film stars Chanel regulars Freja Beha Erichsen and Kristen McMenamy, confectionery boy-toy Baptiste Giabiconi, house ambassador Anna Mouglalis as well as a bevy of guest stars including Mark Vanderloo, Brad Koening, Amanda Harlech and Oriol Elcacho.

Lagerfeld “imagined,” wrote and directed The Tale of a Fairy about “an ill-advised use of money which begins with violence and ends with feeling.” A part of this feeling apparently involves Freja and Anna getting all sapphic in extreme close-up.

If you’re not lucky enough to be at the Hôtel du Cap-Eden-Roc at the Cap d’Antibes on Monday for the Chanel Cruise show — my invitation to that show as well as the Met Gala and the Royal Wedding were clearly lost in the mail — the film will debut on chanel.com at 4 pm, EST. [Chanel]

- Fresh off the stilettoed heels of her landing a gig styling for Barneys, Carine Roitfeld has just finished a shoot for none other than Karl Lagerfeld for Chanel‘s Fall/Winter campaign starring Freja Beha Erichsen. The Kaiser called the experience “genius,” which is no small compliment from someone who openly thinks Coco Chanel was overrated. [WWD]

- Vogue UK is, expectedly, going all out for the Royal Wedding with a trifecta of bridal-themed covers. Lara Stone, Natalia Vodianova and Freja give Terrified Bride Realness for the May issue, which takes a gander at British Vogue‘s 95-year history of covering royal weddings. 95 years of thinly-masked indifference and heavily-veiled brides; where does the time go? [Fashin]

- Though she allegedly told guests at a Topshop dinner that John Galliano would be designing her wedding dress, Kate Moss‘s fiance, Jamie Hince, says that that is “unfounded entirely.” The future Mr. Kate Moss also offered some surprisingly thoughtful insights on the shamed Dior designer: ”You can judge them on the stupid words they said – which I think were stupid, I hope that goes without saying – or you can dig a bit deeper and you can try and find out what the problem is. And I think it’s obvious that it’s alcohol. People are trying to say those are his politics. ‘I love Hitler’ – that’s not political, that’s somebody in trouble.” I must admit I wasn’t too keen on Moss marrying this Hince character, but he seems to b a step up from Pete Doherty. As the city of Paris waits with bated breath, the whole fashion world is heavily anticipating what will become of French Vogue. Only one powerful square shouldered denim-monger knows for absolute sure what that will bring. Until now. We’ve got some deets about Emmanuelle Alt’s first cover. We knew already that the cover model is slated to be glamazon Gisele Bundchen. Now we’ve got word that the designer to be featured is none other than……

Dolce and Gabbana.

Wait, you mean the brand that was the most frequently used on the cover of Vogue in 2010? Not that we’re complaining much, but it’s a little predictable, and not quite… French.

And guess who’s photographing? Inez van Lamsweerde et Vinoodh Matadin. Again, not complaining, but they too were the most frequently used photographers for Vogue covers in 2010.

Emmanuelle, please take these reigns you’ve earned, and steer. We love what’s been done, but please introduce us to something new.

Never mind the crappy picture quality, we get a sneek peek into the secret lives of runway models. Freja noshes on a pig-shaped cookie that says sexy beast, Gisele dons lingerie and strategically covers her baby bump with a coat, Abbey stuffs her shirtless self into a kitchen cupboard, Lara gets boobs…. the list goes on. Who knew Twitpics would be so in Vogue?

Karl Lagerfeld is once again behind the camera shooting Baptiste Giabiconi. Been there, done that. Karl needs a new hobby cause his photos are BORING!!! I get that you’re looking to pursue new interests with your boy toy, but can you at least take the Hedi Slimane approach, keep them on your blog, and not throw them into magazines. It’s bad enough the publishing industry is a sinking ship, there’s no need to put readers to sleep with your shoots.

Though it may be a few months old, I simply couldn’t dock Karl Lagerfeld of the credit he deserves for his awesome spread in Numero #81. The spread is quite simple, but the concept of having model Freja Beha Erichsen photographing herself, in slightly similar outfits, is basically genius. From the feathery, flowing gown to the stiff, paper-like strapless dress, this spread covers a broad scheme of garment textures. I cannot wait to see the Givenchy Haute Couture gown on a red carpet sometime soon!

Anyways, it seems as though more and more models are following the Agyness route and chopping off their hair in order to receive the same celeb status as this years most talked about model.
