Kim Kardashian rang in the year 2012 with a bang, and we are talking about her hair. The recent divorcé celebrated New Year’s Eve at Tao Las Vegas with newly cut fringe and a hefty paycheck – she reportedly made $600,000 just for attending the party. Though all this information makes me incredibly nauseous, I must say the bangs suit her. She went from banging Kris Humphries to banging herself on NYE and hey, I guess she looks pretty good.

Boutique Critique:: The Reformation NYC: Look 1

Ring the doorbell to gain entrance to a trove of treated treasures. The Reformation is a store of lace, fringe, washed silk and ultra femininity. It also happens to be made entirely of reworked vintage clothing. Yael Aflalo is the designer behind the store and everything is made in house. Take a peek at what can be made from what’s been made before.

Look 1: Trompe L’ace

The Lace Fringed Dress, $125

This piece is so versatile because it becomes what is beneath it. The low swinging fringe makes the dress substantial.

The Nude Bra Top, $65

The top underneath is made of lace – pile the two laces atop one another and they become opaque. The bra hits the bottom of the ribcage, which equals more skin coverage from the lace.

The High Nude Shorts, $125

These thick silky shorts hug the body close and make a great layer unto itself. The length just happened to cut at the exact proportion necessary for this visual effect.

The Lace Cutout Kimono Jacket, $225

Found in varying lengths throughout the store, this particular piece comes to a sheer end at the bottom of the dress fringe. The silk swims to complement the shape beneath, and it has the capacity to fit a multitude of situations. However you decide to style it, it can work inside the house or out, day or night.

The Vintage Man’s House Slipper, $95

Now, these probably were not made with the intention of being indoor slippers, but they do remind me of what my grandfather used to wear, though his were not as pointy. The woven leather has been worn, and wear with ease. This look, however, could certainly do with a spicier pair of shoes.

DAY 1 Survival Tip: Low maintenance makeup: you don’t want to look like a melty clown. Your outfit and accessories are going to be so stylish that you won’t need a lot of face time, plus anything you put on will evaporate within the first 2 Robyn songs. Go for an SPF laden tinted moisturizer, cheek and lip stain for some color, and water proof eyeliner for those who can’t live without (like moi). Keep the lipgloss and sunblock on hand and you’re good to go!

If you saw Boutique Critique yesterday, this dress probably looks familiar to you. I’m wearing it again because its versatility begs to be worn on a recurring basic. Court founders and co-owners by Nicole Tondre and Lisa Fuller have a deft hand for clothing that makes sense, and it makes shopping the store a pleasure. LOOK FOUR: Skirt Becomes Dress

The Convertible Dress: Funktional, $120

Yesterday I showed this as a floor length skirt. Now it’s a mid calf, deep V strappy dress. Imagine now wrapping the straps into a strapless, or as a true halter, or any way you can think to wear it. The tie strands are connected in the waistband by a strip of hidden elastic which allows for fluid flexibility. Lisa and Nicole were telling me there’s five ways to wear this dress, but they hadn’t seen it this way yet, which leads me to believe there are more undiscovered modes of styling this Funktional skirt/dress.

The Cropped Blazer: Mary Meyer, $55 (originally $110)

Cut from athletic cloth, this blazer has a soft feel under the edged look. And I highly recommend you watch the highlariously choreographed look book video on her homepage.

The Fringe Heel Pump: Messeca, $110 (originally $158)

Still lingering from Fall, the cascading fringe caught my eye. Leather tassels pouring out of the backend of a pump is wildly unexpected, and feels slightly equestrian to me. Messeca is a brand that likes to experiment with unusual textures and shapes, and thus fits like a glove within Court‘s walls.

The Leather Hair Corset: Court, $48

I wore the hair corset in every look at Court because I’m digging the way it pulls my hair to a low side ponytail, functioning almost as a braid, without having to braid my hair. There are so many possibilities with a hair accessory like this. And they carry it in a size half as big, just two rows of hooks to loop around.

Today Jean-Charles de Castelbajac showed this phenomenal red plaid fringed coat with slightly cropped ‘n’ rolled cuffs and center front buttons. A week ago, I happened to purchase a red plaid fringed coat with slightly cropped ‘n’ rolled cuffs and center front buttons… at the Salvation Army. Am I a fashion future seer or did Jean-Charles somehow see me and quickly add it to his collection?

Fine, I see your point. But I’m not a model, she is. How’s a lady to compete with that?

In true Roberto Cavalli fashion, the spring 2011 ad campaign features over-the-top looks and an energetic mood. Photographed by Mert Alas & Marcus Piggott, models Laetitia Casta, Joan Smalls and Malgosia Bela show off the ornate clothing in front of a bright background. Although the garments are made of leathers and prints in handsome neutrals, the bright outlook for spring shines through.

RUNWAY RUNDOWN: Custo Barcelona

Custo Barcelona has come a long way since his printed tops a few years ago…showing both a female and male collection of fringe and over-exaggerated print, I am definitely having a hard time imagining these pieces off the runway. An almost unwearable collection, the models don’t even seem excited about wearing the garments, which is never a good sign!
