We saw the pictures, we heard the review, here is a video for all of you to watch. The super bright lights washed out some of the looks, but I was more focused on the choreography. The show was so entertaining.
RUNWAY RUNDOWN: G-Star Raw Spring 2010

Before we get into the fashion details, let’s set the record straight: G-Star Raw knows how to put on a fashion show. G-Star turned the Hammerstein Ballroon into a tubular vessel of white light and blaring bass. The collection, although ridden with some clever denim jumpsuits, jackets and drop-crotch jeans, reminded me of a typical, vintage teacup. Royal blue and white patterns dominated the runway, looking far more docile and innocent than past collections. But G-Star’s industrial aesthetic radiated via their expertise in raw denim, more specifically in a denim patchwork trench and several canvas and buckle vests.

WTF!?! Kate Lanphear Sits BEHIND Celebrities At G-Star Raw Spring 2010

I just got back from the G-Star Raw Spring 2010 show, and while I should be left with impressions of the clothing, I can’t help but wonder why Kate Lanphear, style director of Elle Magazine, was seated behind celebrities Juliette Lewis, Kat Von D, Eric Balfour and Leonor Varela, let alone on the side runway (yep, that’s her in the upper left corner!) I admire Lanphear’s support of fashion, as I’ve seen her at numerous shows and throughout the tents this past week, and I feel like her influence is far more important than an actor’s or tattoo artist’s.
If I learned one thing during this season’s fashion week, it’s this: DAMN PUBLIC RELATIONS PEOPLE NEED TO GET THEIR SHIT TOGETHER.

RUNWAY RUNDOWN: G-Star Raw Fall 2009

With only three days left of runway madness, the tents at Bryant Park sure have some catching up to do. Call me an awe-struck runway rookie, but last night’s G-Star Raw Fall 2009 runway show gave every other show this week a run for its money. Three parallel runways, dimmed track lighting and eerie classical music set the mood for G-Star’s industrial funeral themed show. As if the ambiance wasn’t enough, believe me when I say I’d wear absolutely anything that came strolling down the runway. Drop-crotch denim, Victorian tuxedo jackets, dramatic, high collared pea-coats, raw denim baby-doll dresses, nylon trenches and leather pants were just some of the items that had my jaw at the floor. Oh, and did I mention the buckles, zippers, snaps and leather accessories galore? I must admit, I was a bit apprehensive about light-wash denim for the fall, but G-Star had undoubtedly set the trend. Benicio Del Toro’s reading of Joy Division’s “Candidate” at the show’s close sealed the deal on the ultimate runway experience. I’m ready for Spring 2010!
