RUNWAY RUNDOWN: Alexander Wang Resort 2010
Alexander Wang went a bit all-American prepster for his Resort 2010 collection…and I must say, I’m not terribly happy about it. I’m not used to Wang using light-wash denim, except in his leather/denim combo jacket from Spring 2009…which strangely reappeared in this collection. I’m not trying to make excuses for Wang on this one, but perhaps we should blame this so-so collection on Wang’s recent work with the Gap. On a more positive note, I do like the oversized hole sweaters and the nautical striped sweater with the sequins skirt.

SPREAD UM: New Model Army for Crash by Sarah Maurer

Attention GAP: Look at all the clothes pictured here, photocopy and imitate. Then people might actually care about the shit you produce. All of this is so rethought Americana. I loathe it, but secretly wish I dressed this way, or had friends who dressed this way, or went to parties with people who dressed this way. God Damn you New York and your apprehension to faded denim. New American, your look is no!!!

ADDICT: GAP S/S 2009
Sorry, Patrick Robinson — I’m not really feeling the color schemes in the S/S 2009 GAP ad campaign.
Good job on the ethnic diversity, but the ads are a little busy — and it’s traditional GAP spring, with the colors, khakis, and denim.
The Mikael Jansson-shot ads feature familiar faces like Sasha Pivovarova and Jessica Stam.

Gap, The Shitty Retailer That Ruined Christmas
Gap manages to fuck up the holidays once again with a series of videos which make me a) wish I had a bullet for Jon Heder’s and Jason Biggs face, b) pray that Freddy Rodriquez would quit giving Puerto Roc’s a bad rap by looking like a tan midget, and c) hope that one day the GAP goes bankrupt so that we don’t have to be subjected to such shitty attempts at marketing. Seriously, I would rather listen to a choir of trache patients gargling days old throat phlegm than have to hear these attempts at Christmas carols ever again.
Below are some lowlights…
Rainn Wilson reminding us that his 15 minutes are officially up and Selma Blair showing us just how desperate she’s gotten since her divorce in their rendition of “Baby It’s Cold Outside”.
“We 3 Kingz” was shitastically performed by a beaner (seriously refuse to claim this one as one of mine), the African-American fellow (see we can be politically correct sometimes) from Weeds, and a jew who decided to sell out his heritage for $100 in Gap cash. Of course at some point the tannest of the group has to throw in some beatboxing to throw off the whitey. Thank you Gap for maintaining racial profiling in all your marketing campaigns.
Janelle Monae, the only bright spot in this whole campaign, attempts to ignore Napoleon Dynamite as he dances around like an idiot in his striped CRAP sweater. Seriously, when was the last time this dude left his house without a helmet and a ticket to ride the short bus. (P.S. Anti-Gay Right Morman’s Suck Assneck Jon).
My assumption is that Trey Songz and Flo Rida fulfill the Gap’s gay spokesperson quota cause these two are definitely kickin it on the downlow. Honestly, these two are gayer than the dude from Reading Rainbow eye-socket fucking the blind black dude from Star Trek. Oh wait, their the same guy?!? Shit that’s a weird visual. Seriously though does Chris Brown know he has a twin out there stealing all his endorsement money?
Okay, wasn’t sure who any of these people were at first. Apparently one is a comedian who once showed Madonna the labia licking ropes and the others are a group of country singers better known for alienating their entire fan base by talking smack about the President. So basically, they hate Bush while she just can’t get enough…
You can watch all the videos at gap.com, but please don’t.

What do Claire Danes, Ashton Kutcher and Audrey Hepburn Have in Common?
They’ve all stared in some pretty horrendous GAP ads. We’ve collected thirty of our favorite ads and placed them on Don’tAdvertiserHere.com for your viewing pleasure. Whether it’s the limited release Spike Jonze directed ad in which the GAP gets trashed or the somber Mellow Yellow ads or the pre-Pirates Orlando Bloom spot, they’re all on. While watching you’ll quickly realized why you hated the GAP and come to terms with American Apparel’s rise to pornographic fame.
Here’s are four of our least favorites…
Ashton, Zooey, Jay and Scarlett love bike riding for the GAP.
A never aired ad featuring a dancing Laura Prepon
Carrie Bradshaw and Merlin Bronques for the GAP?
QUITE POSSIBLY THE WORST AD EVER!!!! I hate vests because of this…

Men’s Style’s Sixteen Essentials For Fall That Aren’t So Essential

Fashion Indie Recommends: Skip clear and definitely skip wayfarers. Go with something a bit cooler and more subtle for Fall. (Karen Walker $170 via Gargyle)
Men’s Style released their 16 essentials for Fall, well I have decided to put my two cents in and chose ten of their items that I think suck. Their options are too safe, too old man, and just plain old boring. Not only am I going to give you some damn good alternatives, I’ll tell you where to get them and save you some cash too. All the links to buy the items are at the bottom.

Fashion Indie Recommends: Who goes hiking in New York City? Try these higher, yet comfortable boots for size. Tuck your pants into them, or wear your pants over top. It's called versatility people (H by Hudson $235 via Urban Outfitters)

Fashion Indie Recommends: Two is always better than one, so try this double buckled belt. I think I wore a braided belt in elementary school and hated it then. (All Saints $88 via All Saints)

Fashion Indie Recommends: Lapels are all the rage when it comes to suits these days. Simple outline on a standard grey suit (CNC $829 via Revolve Clothing)

Fashion Indie Recommends: Why spend so much on something so simple. Go cheap on an item like this, not only will know one know the difference, they won't care (American Apparel $16 via American Apparel)

Fashion Indie Recommends: How old are you that you are wearing a sweater like that? Don't get old too fast go with this cool shawl collar sweater (Julian Red $210 via Oak)

Fashion Indie Recommends: Go polka dots. They aren't micro, but they aren't a bold blatant pattern (Comme de Garcons x H&M $TBD via Nitrolicious)

Fashion Indie Recommends: Double breasted jackets aren't doing it for me. Like a said, lapels people! Try a cool knot jacket! (Scotch and Soda $240 via Revolve Clothing)

Fashion Indie Recommends: Go long and tie it off. Commit to the full trench coat and be sure to get one with a belt so it doesn't look too baggy (Filius $450 via Refinery 29).

Fashion Indie Recommends: So this may be a bit more expensive, but undoubtedly worth it. This cool drooping neck sweater allows wearers to rock a cool sweater, or pull it up and over your head into a hood (reference image below)(Unconditional $278 via Oak)

Sarah Marshall Wants You to Vote and … Shop at the Gap
What happened Sarah Marshall Kristen Bell?
You didn’t get invited to play with the big celebrities in that whole “Don’t Vote” PSA so you decided to reenact your favorite episode of Blues Clues and tout your voting rights for the Gap? I stopped watching after the cast of Heroes didn’t show up. Seriously, a voting ad with only one celebrity? Who the fuck do you think you are, Oprah?!?
I have opted to not vote for this public service announcement. I need a group of celebrities I can trust. Not some Maverick who thinks she can take on this whole youth indifference thing on her own.

Boutique Critique: Colette 2.0
Colette, the Paris store which is the European inspiration for NY hubs like Opening Ceremony, just got a major makeover thanks to the handiwork of Japanese interior designer Masamichi Katayama, aka Wonderwall.
The store now looks completely new, a welcome change from a spot I couldn’t leave when Becks and I visited Paris in the Spring. The new spot has white walls with glass, steel and black leather, with tons of graphics to add flavor to the walls.
Can’t wait to see if we get any preview of the new store now that the Gap plans to open a pop-shop for the Parisian gem in NYC this fall. Oh, the Gap, how cool you are slowly becoming.
Thanks to WWD for having the cash to send photographers to the spot and for keying us in on the story.

Zara Is Taking Over The World
Zara has overtaken Gap to become the world’s largest clothing retailer, it now boasts nearly 3,900 stores across 70 countries.
“The success of the model lies in being able to adapt what you’re offering in the shortest time possible to what clients want. For Inditex, time is the principal factor to take into account, more so than the costs of production.”
As much as we (by this I mean consumers) love fast fashion at cheap prices, Zara is not that cheap…Plus, the quality is shitty and attentions is not taken when it comes to fit. Maybe I expect to much from my clothing, but even if I buy something for only one season, I still want it to look attractive. I am also a much bigger fan of H&M or Target for basics.
What do you guys think?

Gap Cuts Its Threads With Europe
Two years ago, Gap assembled a London-based design team to form stronger ties with a European crew. It was only a mere year ago that significant efforts were made for these collections to hit stores. The styles created had a European flair and allowed for a wider range of expression. Recently, Gap has decided to cross out this chapter of the company and disassemble the newly created regimen of the brand. Instead, American styles will be imported into Europe, as a result of an increased demand for U.S. collections by the Europeans. A spokesperson says on behalf of the situation:
“The recent north American ranges have been more fashion-forward and that’s something that European customers respond well to.”

And The Warholics Keep On Flowing…

Diane Von Furstenberg

Levi’s

Burton Snowboards

Gap

Sphinx

Seiko

Royal Elastics

Loop

Paul Frank Industries

Bond No. 9

Barneys
I think it’s been made clear that the, often overrated, work of Andy Warhol is becoming widely used and revealed; however, until this stops, we’ll keep on telling you. Brands across the board refuse to stop the sale of designs featuring Warhol’s images; in fact, some designers are just joining the pack! What is this? The long list of designers and stores include Diane Von Furstenberg, Levi’s, Burton Snowboards, The Gap, Sphinx, Seiko, Royal Elastics, Loop, Paul Frank, Bond No. 9 and Barney’s. Some of the designers are new to the Warhol scene; however, some just keep at it. Barney’s featured Warhol images in 2006 and recently they’ve swapped the images for “inspiration quotes” on Warhol’s behalf.

Fashion Quotables: Andy Warhol on His Collaborations With Levis, Royal Elastics, Diane Von Furstenburg, Bond No. 9, Gap, Loop Design and Burton Snowboards

GAP Gets Some Serious Fashion Cred With Fall Ads
Take a look at GAP’s new ads for fall. They asked some of fashion’s heavy-hitters to model yet another incarnation of the GAP brand. And I got to say I like the results!

I hope Patrick Robinson and his team keep up the good work. But we all know what happens whenever they try to revamp the GAP. The first collection is awesome and then the rest are meh!

Sneak Peak: Gap Ads, Fall 08

Julia Restoin-Roitfeld, Lily Donaldson, Chanel Iman, and Georgina Chapman star in the Fall 08 Gap campaign. Liv Tyler is also scheduled to be featured in the print ads. Surprisingly, Gap has continues to be ingenious with their advertisements. Although, these are not as poignant as the Gap(red) ads, Gap’s fall campaign sheds words of wisdom. The dramatic black and white ads all have a fun message. Teen supermodel sensation, Chanel Iman’s, phrase is “name your own destiny.” We think she speaks from experience.

More Reasons to Shop At The Gap
I know we wrote about the Collete Pop-Shop already but new developments are coming in.
I hate to admit it but Gap is getting cool. They just secured a deal with Colette to host the Parisian shops pop-up store in their New York flagship. What has the world come to?
The two retailers got together on the project which will run from Sept. 6 – Oct. 5 adjacent to Gap’s 54th Street and Fifth Avenue flagship.
The shop will feature exclusive Colette items and limited edition artist created Gap tees. Damn their good.
Colette plans to freshen the store with new product every week and will feature signature products, including candles and artist editions. It also will stock limited edition Colette merchandise designed by the likes of Oakley sunglasses, Hello Kitty watches and Asics sneakers.
I fucking hate to admit it, but I’ll be shopping at the Gap come September. What about you?

Hey Did You Hear? Gap is Cool Again! Really?

Beach Chic-Part Duex
Gap has kind of been hit and miss over the last decade, but it seems to be getting cooler thanks to new creative director Patrick Robinson. I’m currently obsessed with this retro-beach chic look. It’s so 1950’s with the polka-dots. It’s a great outfit for the beach or a night out afterwards. All you have to do is pair this with a high waisted skirt and you’ve got an evening look. And the best part is it’s only 42 bucks!

Gap/ Whitney Museum T-Shirts
I know everyone is talking about them, and most of you have probably seen them but these limited edition summer tees are pretty cool. The shirts feature bold designs by artists like Jeff Koons, Chuck Close, Kiki Smith, Marilyn Minter, Barbara Kruger, Glenn Ligon, Kenny Scharf, and Kerry James Marshall. I gotta say, these are pretty nifty, and at those prices, I think I’m going to join the rat pack and pick one up.

I’ll Kick Myself in the Ass Later, but Head to Gap Today

The Gap’s new collection featuring 3.1 Phillip Lim, Band of Outsiders, threeASFOUR, Michael Bastian and Philip Crangi jewelry has hit stores today. Above, chicks from NYLON rock the looks, further proving that NYLON’s staff lacks style (sorry lady but white rimmed glasses are SOOO Chloe Sevigny circa 2004 it hurts). I really, really want everything from the mens side of this collection since it’s the first time Gap is releasing mens goodies from Michael Bastian.
I will be at the Gap today, as should you, sad, yet uberly true.

Threeasfour for Gap
Rumored for some time now, and finally confirmed that indie darlings threeasfour will be doing a small capsule collection for Gap. Their first large collaboration, the collection is due in March and will uphold the unique style of the label. Around for some time now, designers Ange, Adi, and Gabi (CFDA/Vogue Fashion Fund Finalists), have the art of fashion down to a science. The collections usually contain beautifully done flowy pieces, with great detail, and unique ingenuity. The fashion world has been buzzing about this, and we are all looking forward to at least a sneak peak.
