Nautica wisely and effectively utilized some of the top male models of the moment to show off their spring 2012 line, inspired by a California road trip complete with surfing and some good old-fashioned bro-bonding. The result was a preppy but masculine, sporty and relaxed collection draped over the flawless backs of Chad White and Clint Mauro (both thankfully shirtless) alongside Garrett Neff, Josh Wald, Ryan Kennedy and 25 other future Humpday favorites.

I haven’t been home in Buffalo but two days and I’m already suffering from A.M.W (what physicians like to call ‘attractive male withdrawal). It is needless to say that stumbling upon Forbes’ 2009 list of the most successful male models was not only a sight for sore eyes but rather informative about the business of the modeling industry.
While the industry is dominated by doll-faced, lanky females, male models with more classic looks tend to be the most successful. In the midst of a recession, agencies have had to renew older contracts to save money, thusly narrowing the types of men represented. The Cole Mohrs and Ash Stymests, although trendy “image guys,” tend to fall once they’ve been used and seen enough. In addition, those who have been branded to a fragrance campaign tend to endure a low profile in the industry since such campaigns are so publicly widespread.
I’ll admit, it is a bit disheartening to see some of my favorites so low, or even nonexistent, on the list, but based on magazine covers and spreads, advertising campaigns, contracts and runway shows over the past two years, here is Forbes’ most successful male models:

The S/S 09 ad campaign for Loewe is so fucking awesome I can barely stand it. As if the Spanish fashion house isn’t awesome enough, Steven Klein came in and took things to another level. No woman has ever looked so stylish lounging by the pool than Amber Valletta does in this set of photos. All of the garments, particularly the coats, look absolutely amazing. And the shot where model Garrett Neff is diving into the water over Valletta’s lounge chair with those gorgeous mountains in the background? Priceless. Summer, where the fuck are you?

Garrett Neff (the new underwear dude for Ck’s latest campaign) is apparently too steamy for some people. Certain photos (like the one above) will not be part of the men’s global print and media campaign due to launch in 17 countries because of their “sexiness.”
