According to a profile in New York Magazine, Kors met LaPere in 1990 when the latter joined the former’s company as an intern. They fell in love while in Paris over quesadillas and cranberry juice and now their fairytale romance– emphasis on the fairy — will get its happy ending.

However, don’t expect Kors to diva out on an opulent wedding:

“Lance and I are very excited to finally be able to have the opportunity to marry in our home state after many years together. We have no plans for a major party, but we will be getting married privately.”

I hope one of the challenges on Project Runway — that show’s still on, right? — this season will be creating Kors’ wedding gown, only for him to deride it as “something Vera Wang threw up in the 80s.” [WWD]

The NYT profiles two couples and their adorably meddling mothers. The first, Aaron Breslow and Dan Scudellari, are your typical Brooklyn gays: they both sport beards, of the non-Aniston variety; one of them works as an HIV project coordinator; and they identify as “queer” rather than “gay.”

‘Twas a lovely affair and a beautiful moment, made all the lovelier and more beautiful by the wardrobe choices of my dear friends and I, who trekked from our then-questioning state of New York to the brisk, open shores of Massachusetts. So with wedding season upon us and Neil Patrick Harris already planning his pas de bourrée down the aisle, what does one wear to a gay wedding?

For the beach-side wedding of our friends — and Massachusetts residents — Alec and Brooks (seen above with Brooks’ niece), my gaggle of gays and I spread our sequined capes and caught a strong breeze up to Cape Cod.

Ever since those kooky kids got engaged last year, my friends and I have been planning our wedding attire.  It being the first gay wedding for all of us — and judging by the pace of our collective love lives, probably the last — we were excited and eager to don our matrimonial best.

But there was so much to consider:

A.) It’s a gay wedding, so a fair amount of flair is needed and leeway afforded.

B.) It’s a beach wedding, thus requiring a less stuffy sartorial selection and making choice in footwear particularly difficult.

C.) Then there was our natural and uncontrollable propensity to upstage. This wasn’t our wedding, after all — and out of respect of our friends and their family and friends, perhaps a jet-black drop-crotch, bold-shouldered bodysuit was not the most sensible choice.

A year — and several crash diets, a Royal Wedding and many a discarded theme — later, we came together in a romantic and sartorial triumph…which quickly descended into a joyfully weepy mess. The joy was doubly powerful, though, because as Alec and Brooks were exchanging their vows, we were aware that we, too, could follow in their footsteps in our very own state.

And that was a source of immense pride for all of us.

Below are pics of what we finally decided on wearing. There were several shorts, dressed up with blazers and an occasional tie; a lace Rodarte pant that was surprisingly mens; white was a popular choice, jazzed up with a mixed print; and in an ode to Will and Kate‘s nuptials, I wore a fascinator.

I also chose a subtle Oriental fan as an accessory….What can I say, it’s a gay wedding —  sometimes you gotta fan the flamers.

Vogue‘s editrix-in-chief took five seconds out of her busy schedule to record this spot for the Human Rights Campaign’s “New Yorkers for Marriage Equality” initiative.

Wintour goes on to say, in a tone that suggests that the production crew dare not ask for a second take: “As far as I’m concerned, having the right to say ‘I do’ is as fundamental as the right to vote.” And I think we all know whatever Anna says goes.

I actually did catch the bouquet from my friend Annie at her wedding. Uh, oh. What does that mean?

It is not often that I go to a gay wedding…you can count them on one hand. Not that there’s anything wrong with it. The idea of gay marriage resonates more for the gay community at large than for me, though I support it wholeheartedly. Just not sure whether it is something for everyone. Not being a bigot here, I believe the same holds true for straight marriage as well. All that aside, my friends Annie Washburn and Emily Giske tied the knot yesterday in the loveliest setting on Cape Cod…Provincetown to be exact…duh. But it was moving and sweet, and having been the one to introduce them, it was a touching culmination of two ships passing in the night…only to end up docked at the harbor of P-Town.

Anyway, if you know me at all, you know what a cynic I am about these things. A year ago I wrote a piece, I Mean…Gay Marriage?!?:

It’s time for me to chime in on this gay marriage issue. Clearly I am not an opponent nor am I a proponent either. I’m from the school of “live and let live”, so if two gay people want to get married…by all means, make it legal in every state, you have my blessing. I think you’re nuts…but go right ahead. The notion of marriage has always seems a bit archaic to me, straight, gay or otherwise. Monogamy is a challenging notion that defies gravity: that which is forbidden becomes obsession. Yes, there are those lovely exceptions; couples that are perfect for each other…harmonious…the ideal couple. I’ve seen that maybe twice. Other than that, it’s “Relationships are tough, I feel trapped” or “What an asshole” and “Not tonight, I’m not in the mood” as a rule of thumb. I should know, I survived an eleven year relationship.?

I went to my first gay wedding in California in 1999. It was a gorgeous affair in Montecito (where Oprah now has a house)  attended by the couple’s 100 closest friends in a grand, Spanish-style mansion built in the 1920’s. We all stood in a large circle on the sprawling grounds as the couple went around in the circle, “honoring” each and every one of us for sharing in this momentous occasion.  I attended my first gay divorce, six months later to the day. Same house, less lavish affair. I knew then that gay marriage was a sham just like straight marriages, except for those rare exceptions like Ellen and Portia or Elton and David (and now Annie and Emily).

The beloved Simon Doonan, creative director at Barney’s, is getting married! The self proclaimed fashionista will wed interior designer and Top Design judge  Jonathan Adler. The ceremony will take place in California. Although the ceremony is a joyous occasion, Doonan says that Adler is already his spouse unofficially and getting married “is more like paying a parking ticket.” He assures his fans that the event will take place after the main event: New York Fashion Week. Congrats Simon!
