#NYFW Round-Up: FashionIndie’s Faves from New York Spring 2012

Edited by

There’s a definite consensus around the FashionIndie office regarding this season at the tents: lackluster. Gone was the excitement and the thrill of the new and in its stead stood a circus comprised of the old guard impatiently appraising the crop of would-be streetstyle stars and the army of bloggers hanging about as they waded through the muck of the nameless and the irrelevant to find a collection onto which to pin their ever-dwindling hopes . Still, there were a few shows that set the five barely-beating hearts of FashionIndie racing and had our backs aching to be clothed in their bright and bold designs.

RUNWAY REVIEW: General Idea

Edited by

What I love about menswear by General Idea is that it’s both cute and avant garde. Bumsuk Choi presented plaid shirts and color-splattered ponchos in the same line for spring 2011, proving again that General Idea has something for everyone. More after the jump…

RUNWAY RUNDOWN: General Idea Spring 2010 Collection

There were maybe three shows I went to this Fashion Week that I truly enjoyed, and one of them was General Idea. The Korean brand has really exploded into the United States, and their show that took place at Exit Art a couple days ago was amazing! The collection featured great patterns, solid splashes of color, and some of the best looking gladiator sandels around!

LAST NIGHTS PARTY: General Idea Pre Fashion Week Party

Last night marked the beginning of Fashion Week for many fashion people, and General Idea kicked it off with a bang! The Korean label hosted a party at The Anchor on Spring St. that really got people in the mindset for Fashion Week. General Idea’s head designer Bumsuk Choi was on the DJ tables all night keeping his own guests very entertained.

One day down, one to go!

So due to the fact that the fashion world never stops, back on Columbus Day I was given the chance to tour the Williamson PR Showroom. Our wonderful friend Jasmine gave me a cool little tour of all the desingers they represent, and gave me a rundown of their up coming collections. One brand that I appsoultely fell in love with was General Idea. Designer Bum Suk Choi started the company when he was 26 in Korea, and this up coming Spring 2009 collection will mark the United States Debut of General Idea.

The concept behind General Idea is a mix of avant-garde design with a sense of roughness, yet each piece still manages to remain extremely wearable. The label is also very much about uniforms and military wear, military jackets with epaulettes, short denim jackets, mesh sweatshirts, roughly painted jackets with metal ornaments and pieces of leather attachments.

This collection is amazing. General Idea is definitely a company I could see myself wearing on a regular basis. The colors are bold, the patterns are strong, and the use of metallics is hardly overbearing. I am so excited about this brand, I was trying the samples on right off the rack.

For more on General Idea be sure to check out their website. Thanks again Jasmine and Williamson PR for the images.
