DESIGNER TO KNOW: Georgy Baratashvili

The latest addition to the list is Russian designer Georgy Baratashvili, a graduate of Central Saint Martins whose work – including previous collaborations with Puma and the Jamaican Olympic team – marries sportswear with a darkly romantic aesthetic.

His AW08/09 collection, inspired by British youth culture, takes the street uniform of hoodies and tracksuits and overlays them with elements from Baratashvili’s dance background to create a tough but sensual collection of gorgeously slouchy pieces.

With intricately draped jersey, layered wool and washed leather in soft nude and grey shades, this is a vision of luxury with serious attitude.
