SPREAD UM: Alexa Chung for Harper’s Bazaar UK, May 2009

British model Alexa Chung looks incredible in the May 2009 issue of Harper’s Bazaar UK.
The styling isn’t terribly ground-breaking, but it’s great for spring; and more importantly it suits her well. Alexa wears a mix of delicate pieces fit for a princess – like the S/S 2009 Giambattista Valli dress on the cover – and casual, easy basics like beat-up boots and leather jackets.

SPREAD UM: Doutzen Kroes for Allure, March 2009

In the March 2009 issue of Allure, Doutzen Kroes models several looks from the Spring 2009 collections, including Chanel, Gucci, and Giambattista Valli.

Fashion F* Ups: Vicktoria Beckham
This is Vicki and David Beckham at the launch of their his and hers fragrance, him wearing Gucci, her wearing a Giambattista Valli dress with heel-less Antonio Berardi latex boots/leggings. Straight off the runway of Fall 08, Berardi perfected the trend of the heel-less shoe (started by Marc Jacobs for S/S 08), yet this looks quite painful and unattractive. Well, it’s actually downright ugly! Kinda hard to make this look good when the people around you are waiting for you to fall flat faced on the purple carpet.
Thanks Grazia Fashion for the pic.

Elettra Wiedemann may be the daughter of Isabella Rossellini, BFF of Chris Benz, and a biomedical engineering student who has also recently founded JustOneFrickinDay.com, an organization that (among other projects) is raising funds to build the first solar-powered hospital in Kigutu, Burundi. Co-founded by James Marshall, the Burundi Solar Project has enlisted Chris Benz, House of Diehl, Rogan, Rag & Bone, 3.1 Phillip Lim, and Giambattista Valli to each create an energy-inspired, limited edition t-shirt to be sold at JustOneFrickinDay.com.
The t-shirts, all made from 100% organic cotton, are available in men’s and women’s one size fits all and will sell for $60 each. There are only 100 available in each style, and each is numbered. A simpler style by House of Diehl, which served as creative consultants for the project, is also available for $30.

Giambattista Valli To Launch Bridal
Giambattista Valli has joined a growing band of designers saying “I do” to bridalwear. After receiving personal requests for wedding dresses, Giambattista Valli is now preparing to release a collection of wedding dresses which will go into stores alongside Valli’s cruise collection in November, with prices ranging from $11,000 to $16,000.
“I’m getting married!” joked the designer at an exclusive preview of his new, relatively classic, wedding line here. A surge in requests, including from the just-married Clementina Montezemolo, prompted the line’s creation, he said.
I for one can’t wait, love him and his aesthetic. Wish I heard about this before I bought my wedding dress, although I wouldn’t be able to afford the steep price tag.

In Jan 2008, Giambattista Valli signed a five-year licensing deal with Ciwifurs, Marni’s parent, to produce and distribute the fur line. Valli introduced 50 looks for pre-fall, treating fur like fabric in terms of construction, shapes, weights and sartorial detail. “The market is very receptive and open to fur these days, especially when it’s treated in a new and modern way,” said Valli, who garnered a significant fur experience during his five-year stay at Fendi. “And Ciwifurs is the best when it comes to high-end furs because it has great artisans and pattern-cutters and they’re open to experimenting.”
European designers are re-imagining fur (read my previous article on fur here), using it for looks with a strong presence that range from a mink dress to a raccoon jacket trimmed with ostrich.
