DESIGNER TO KNOW: Maria Lucia Hohan

“Nothing is more important than the love you hold for yourself and for the people around you.” Maria Lucia Hohan believes in bringing out inner beauty, femininity, and the right to be noticed and admired. Every girl’s dream, right? Her flattering, feminine dresses, tops, and jackets are often accessorized with bows, and range from day to evening wear in a variety of prints, colors, and textures. Hohan started her own studio at 23 after attending design school in Paris, and her looks appear constantly in Elle, Cosmo, and Glamour. For the every day girly-girl, head over to New York to pick up this collection, as it remains the only US state currently selling MLH, but as her site claims, “at present time Maria is creating something especially for you!” Cheers to the overly girly individual.

Billie Holiday Gets Glamour-ous
Here’s a post from Sayntly member Missy from AvantFab. Enjoysies.

So…For their latest issue, Glamour decided to pay homage to the ever-fabulous Ms. Billie Holiday in a spread dedicated to American icons.Paula Patton, a young and beautiful new face on the big screen, was chosen to capture Ms. Holiday’s spirit on camera.

Being a fan of the film, Lady Sings the Blues, I have to wonder…Can Ms. Paula hold her own with Ms. Dianna Ross?…An American Icon in her own right?…I know it’s just a photo shoot, but to me Dianna’s eyes say it all. She definitely wins against Paula.

SPREAD UM: Katie Holmes for Glamour April 2009

I hate Katie Holmes’ short hair but she sure does photograph well. Oh, and several of the shots in her editorial for the April 2009 issue of Glamour are far better than her cover shot. The spread is simple and features Katie in black and white pieces that really bring out her natural beauty.

SPREAD UM: Jennifer Connelly for Glamour, March 2009

Jennifer Connelly is the cover girl for the March 2009 issue of Glamour.
They ask her a million annoying questions about single life vs. married life, but she still remains one of the most photogenic and interesting-looking actresses out there.
They put her in a lot of white outfits (spring!), which ends up being a great contrast with her dark hair.

Teen Vogue, W, Marie Claire, and Glamour Report Double-Digit Declines

Some major glossies are reporting serious declines in their newstand sales including Conde Nast’s W and Teen Vogue. Apparently, readers are skipping the tree killing medium for a little something called the Internet (a.k.a FashionIndie.com).

Indies to Watch: Emma Maclaren

She might not have the eerie, ghostlike look of Tanya Dziahileva or the the deer-face of Gemma Ward, but Emma Maclaren, the blonde hair, blue eyed babe isn’t just any girl. For starters, this 17-year-old British model has more agencies than the typical top model. With bookers in London, New York, Paris and Milan, Maclaren’s career has skyrocketed, especially during 2008’s New York Fashion Week. Maclaren made her runway debut walking for designers like Marc Jacobs, Jill Sander and Givenchy and will be featured in November’s British Glamour and on the cover for December’s issue of L’Officiel. People might call her “generic-looking,” but this girl has got something that the other slender, blonde giants don’t have!

I Want Style like Victoria Beckham?

Agyness Deyn

Victoria Beckham

Christian Louboutin designs

Alber Elbaz

Serge Normant
Hitting the newsstands is September is Glamour magazine. Normally Glamour is always hitting the right notes; a fun read to divulge into the world of beauty, fashion, news, and tips (not before Fashionindie of course), but we can’t say we agree with one of their articles in the making. Glamour is set to release an article, in their September issue, featuring “Seven People Who Could Change Your Style”. The list is less than impressive. The seven “fashionistas” include Pat McGrath, Victoria Beckham, Christian Louboutin, Alber Elbaz, Takashi Murakami, Serge Normant, and Agyness Deyn. Though many of these men and women have made significant names for themselves, I think it’s a little overboard to say that these seven people would change anyones style. Don’t get me wrong, their individual and unique and they let their clothes speak for themselves, but to say they start the trend? It’s ridiculous!
Thanks to fashionista for the pic!
