The 2012 Oscar Nominations: A Few Surprises, A Lot of Snores

The nominees for the 84th annual Academy Awards were announced this morning and most importantly, Melissa McCarthy was nominated for Best Supporting Actress for Bridesmaids. Everything else…eh.

I always love when a comedic performance gets some recognition and while the film was excluded from the list of NINE Best Picture nominees, Kristen Wiig scored a nod for her brilliant screenplay with Annie Mumolo. Meanwhile, if that trash Diablo Cody can win for Juno, Wiig might want to ready her acceptance speech.

Hugo leads the pack with 11 nominations, including Best Director for Martin Scorsese – his seventh career Best Director nom and ninth overall — and Best Picture. It will compete against The Artist – a close second with 10 nominations — and out of seemingly nowhere, Extremely Loud & Incredibly Close, which has garnered mixed reviews and has been pretty much absent during awards season. But, c’mon, it’s a 9/11 movie, who’s really surprised?

Other Best Picture contenders include Steven Spielberg’s critically-mixed War Horse, Terrence Malick‘s The Tree of Life — which won the Palme d’Or at Cannes a while back –, The Help, Moneyball, The Descendants and Woody Allen‘s Midnight in Paris.

Allen, it should be noted, snatched his 22nd and 23rd Oscar nods. Take notes, kids.

Also racking up an ungodly amount of Oscar gold this year is (unsurprisingly) Meryl Streep, who scored her 17th Academy Award nomination for her role in The Iron Lady. She will face off against Michelle Williams, Viola Davis, frequent nemesis Glenn Close and surprise nominee Rooney Mara for The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo. Tilda Swinton was once again robbed of a nomination — this time for We Need to Talk About Kevin.

The Best Actor category has BFFs George Clooney and Brad Pitt going head-to-head, while relative unknown Demián Bichir snuck in for the little-seen indie film, A Better Life. The Artist‘s Jean Dujardin, fresh off his Golden Globe win, is also nominated and after decades of generally shutting shit down, Gary Oldman scored his first Oscar nomination for the British film, Tinker Tailor Soldier Spy.

Mary Alice Stephenson wears a lot of hats! Her Facebook followers are in the five figures, she is a media go-to for her red carpet commentating and heart-filled fashion segments, a world renown stylist who has styled for icons such as Avedon, Hiro, Demarchelier, Lindbergh and Richardson as well as serving as a brand ambassador and spokesperson for many Fortune 500 brands. Oh, and we can’t forget to mention how cool it is that she and Barbie are talking fashion in her “dream” closet for BarbieWow.com next week, while still making time to be the national fashion ambassador for the Make a Wish Foundation. She gives her time and love for fashion to many charitable organizations all while being a single mom. She’s our new hero and we think soon to be yours, too!

As a fashion consultant, you get to do something different every day- which days are you favorite?

Every day is different and I love it that way! It’s such a mix — from red carpet commentating to consulting behind the scenes for Fortune 500 companies, to creative directing, to styling editorial shoots with top photographers. Each week it’s high fashion to mass fashion, it keeps me happy to be in both worlds! I can reach so many real women all over the world via social media, my followers love that they can get a look into the real world of fashion and learn how they can apply that glamour to their lives in a realistic way. One day I’m shooting for a European Vogue, doing a fashion segment for the Nate Berkus show or styling a supermodel for Estee Lauder and the next day I could be helping real women get their glam on in a mall in middle America!

Who are young designers that we should be looking to for the future of fashion?

I just had lunch with the talented designers of Cushnie et Ochs, I try to support as many up and coming designers as possible. I know how tough this business can be and how much support they need to make it. I love Flora and Alexa from Ohne Titel, Juan Carlos Obando, Joseph Altruzara, Christian Cota, Suno, Frank Tell…. There is so much talent out there right now. I try to shoot their clothes, or get them on the red carpet as well as talk about their clothes in the media to help get their point of view out to mass America. The American public needs to know there are more options than just the big brands that can afford to advertise. It’s still a struggle, for example, there were a wide range of luxury brands seen on the Golden Globe red carpet but where were Erdem, Prabal Gurung, Thakoon, Alexander Wang, Proenza Schouler? I was happy to see Givenchy, Nina Ricci and Jason Wu, though — so that is some progress!

Plus Model Magazine and Fashion’s Obsession with Unrealistic Body Image

The weight, dress size and health of models have always been hot-button topics, both in and out of the fashion industry. While runways are slowly shying away from the ultra-thin, heroin chic craze that dominated the late-90s and resurfaced in the mid-00s with all those pale, starving girls from Eastern Europe, and the CFDA has enacted initiatives to ensure the health and safety of models, there is still a large disparity between the average woman and what she sees when opens up the pages of Vogue. And with fashion, the trend simply trickles down to the rest of society. Just take a look at the skeletons on this Sunday’s Golden Globes red carpet. Bombarded with these images on a daily basis, how can impressionable young girls and women in general have a healthy body image? Plus Model Magazine decided to address this issue head-on with an editorial featuring Katya Zharkova and a handful of disturbing factoids.

While one could argue that the statement — “Twenty years ago the average fashion model weighed 8% less than the average woman. Today she weighs 23% less.” — doesn’t take into account the fact that women 20 years ago probably weighed less than they do now — two decades of fast food will do that to you — one only has to consider who the average fashion model was 20 years ago. Cindy Crawford, Naomi Campbell, Christy Turlington, Linda Fucking Evangelista…these women were Amazons and Glamazons; healthy, gorgeous and glowing with the energy of life and $10,000 a day paychecks. Then Kate Moss came shuffling in and changed the game. Despite the veracity of the facts, if anything the spread stimulates a debate. And more importantly, it offers images of a beautiful woman who is not only clearly proud of her voluptuous body, but also pretty damned flexible to boot. [Buzzfeed]

Perhaps she was drunkenly driving down Jessica Lange Lane before crashing hair-first into Escaped Mental Patient Blvd; or maybe she just got on the business end of a weed-whacker. Either way, Cammy D’z has seen better days. Not very many better days, mind you, as girl loves her some red carpet bed-head. But instead of looking like she just rolled out of bed and threw on whatever Rachel Zoe picked out for her, Diaz looks like she was run over by the diminutive stylist’s SUV on her way to outfit someone who was actually invited to the ceremony.

Whaddya say we just chalk this up to a bad hair day and forget it ever happened? This dress, however, needs to be burned immediately.

2012 BAFTA Nominations Announced

Awards season is in full swing as we inch ever closer to the grand daddy of them all, the 2012 Academy Awards. The next step on the road to Oscar is its British equivalent, the BAFTAs. The Artist is quickly emerging as a front-runner favorite this year, scoring nominations in all the major categories including Best Film, Leading Actor, Leading Actress, Best Director and Original Screenplay. Meanwhile, Meryl Streep and Michelle Williams, fresh off their Golden Globe wins, will go head-to-head against The Artist‘s Bérénice Bejo, Tilda Swinton for We Need to Talk About Kevin and Viola Davis for The Help in what is easily the most competitive and interesting category. “The Artist,” “The Descendants,” Meryl and George Win Big at the 2012 Golden Globe Awards

Hollywood’s wildest night was a bit on the tame side as the 2012 Golden Globes lapsed into occasional coma. Host Ricky Gervais was more well-behaved and seemingly less drunk this year than last — a bad decision on both counts — though there was some well-played shtick regarding Jodie Foster‘s Beaver. The stars, however, came prepared with their own jokes with the best comeback of the night courtesy of Best Original Song winner, Madonna. After being introduced by Gervais, Madge quipped: “If I’m just like a virgin, Ricky why don’t you come over here and do something it? I haven’t kissed a girl in quite a few years…” A collective snap arose from the Beverly Hilton after the Material Girl dropped that sass bomb, though to be fair, she’s been on a roll as of late. The rest of the night was a series of mild shock — mostly thanks to Angelina Jolie‘s ~~inspiring~~ scary skeletal frame — and even milder surprises thanks to a few upsets in the TV category where shows no one watches nabbed some of the top prizes while in the film category. No one was shocked, however, when Meryl Streep won Best Actress in a Drama, except Meryl Streep, who garnered another Globe for that reaction on her way up to accept for The Iron Lady. It’s been one hell of a year for a certain occasionally-bearded, dog-loving thespian cum hunk cum meme. While some — read: everyone — feel he was unjustly robbed of another award earlier this year, Ryan Gosling is getting a double dose of appreciation from the 69th annual Golden Globe Awards. He’s pulled quite the hat-trick, getting nominated twice this year for Best Actor in a Comedy and Drama. Bradley Cooper was, to the surprise of everyone — read: no one — was not nominated for Limitless.

As big as the Globes’ crush is on Gosling, it can’t hold a candle to the raging boner the Hollywood Foreign Press has for George Clooney, who’s nominated for three awards — Best Director and Best Screenplay for The Ides of March and Best Actor for The Descendants. Why don’t you put it back in your pants, HFA?

Iris Apfel is a fashion icon. And she’s 90 godddamn years old. Meaning that she can and will say whatever the hell she wants. In an amazing interview with The Daily Telegraph, Apfel gives her take on New York fashion, celebrity style and that time Lindsay Lohan asked her to be her Svengali. Hint: she said no.

On New York:

“I love London and Paris; they’re very sophisticated, but not like New York. If you can’t find it in New York, it doesn’t exist.”

On New York in the 50s:

“It was fabulous then, everyone looked beautiful.”

On New York today:

“Now when I walk down Fifth Avenue in the summertime I just want to throw up. It seems that the fatter and uglier people are, the fewer clothes they wear. The shorts and flip-flops and tight jeans on butts that go from here to Poughkeepsie. I always say they should put people in jail for wearing clothes like that. Especially stretch jeans over size 10 — they should be outlawed. Ten years ago people were starting to look like slobs in New York, now it’s an epidemic.”

On London style:

“I haven’t been in London for some years but the last time I was there they looked fuddy-duddy and school-marmish, yes, but not slobby. And then there are the wonderful eccentrics like the kids on Carnaby Street or the punks or whatever the heck they are.”

On meeting Duke Ellington:

“The Duke couldn’t have been nicer and said he’d introduce me to all the greats in Chicago. My mother was very dubious, so I told her, ‘He’s the most elegant gentleman.’ She said, ‘I don’t give a damn how elegant he is, you’re not going to Chicago.’ But I did.”

On dieting:

“I used to smoke like a fiend. I smoked four packs a day. I never do anything half-arsed, shall we say, but I stopped because I felt I was getting to be an addict. I’ve got very good willpower.”

On being asked to be Lindsay’s style guru:

“I can’t tell people how to have style. No amount of money can buy you style. It’s just instinctive.”

On her 2005 exhibit at The Met:

‘It didn’t start out as a fashion show, but he [Harold Koda, curator of the Costume Institute] decided that to show accessories out of context didn’t make much sense so he asked if I could spare maybe five outfits… I said yes, so they went through all my closets, all the drawers, all the boxes, all the armoires, under the bed, everywhere and they go woowoowoooo [she flaps her arms up and down]. Finally they ended up with 82 outfits. It was insanity but the show was such a big smash.”

On her signature glasses:

“When I needed to wear glasses, I decided I’d wear glasses. All the better to see you with.’”

On kids these days:

“Most of the young people today look dreadful.”

On stars these days:

“And celebrities look even worse. They don’t know what to do with themselves. At the Golden Globes and Oscars they all look alike – it seems like they’re all wearing the same nightgown and this year nobody had any jewellery at all. Only Helen Mirren was wearing a beautiful necklace, but even she got it wrong because the necklace just ruined the dress. I think the designer must have wanted to kill himself when he saw her.”

On throwing shade:

“It’s a free country — if you want to look like a freak, that’s your problem.”

INDIE REWIND: The Greatest Supermodels of the 80s (and Early 90s)

When you think of “supermodel,” you can’t help but think of The Big 3. Or The Super Six. Or my favorite grouping, The Legion of Doom. Spawned from the decadence of the 80s, these gals became more than supermodels — they became divas. From Linda Evangelista refusing to wake up for less than $10,000 a day to the phone-throwing, blood diamond-wearing, catwalking behemoth known as Naomi Campbell, there have never and will never be supermodels the likes of these ladies. Yet their dominance over the zeitgeist was short-lived as they were replaced in the mid-90s by a series of bland waifs whose personalities would not detract from the clothes, i.e. they got knocked from their high horse. But you can’t keep a good super down and they are as in demand today as they were 25 years ago.

Christie Brinkley (Feb. 2, 1954) Billy Joel's Uptown Girl was the reigning supermodel of the early 80s thanks to her three consecutive Sports Illustrated covers (1979-1981). After signing a record 20-year contract with Cover Girl, Brinkley came to embody the perpetually perky All-American girl of the decade. Recently, though, she went through a very public and very messy divorce and proved in a 2006 editorial in W magazine there was some grit beneath all that goddamn cheer.

Gia Carangi (1960-1986) Tragic beauty Gia Carangi skyrocketed to superstardom after scoring her first Vogue cover in 1978. All that success perhaps came to early as she became heavily involved in drugs and her modelling career was all but over by 1982 when she shot her last cover for Cosmopolitan. She died four years later from complications of AIDS. Gia's legacy was enhanced a decade later when Angelina Jolie starred in an HBO biopic, garnering a Golden Globe for her performance.

Kathy Ireland (March 20, 1963) Like Christie Brinkley, Kathy Ireland was a Sports Illustrated Swimsuit regular -- her first cover, the 25th anniversary issue in 1989, is still the best selling in the mag's history. She hung up her bikini in the mid-90s and started hocking goods for Kmart and she parlayed her supermodel career into a super successful business that pulls in some $1.5 billion a year

Paulina Porizkova (April 9, 1965) Equally adept on the cover of Sports Illustrated -- landing consecutive covers in 1984 and 85 -- as on a high fashion runway, Porizkova was a Czech phenomenon. In 1988 she scored the biggest modelling contract at the time when Estée Lauder signed her for $6 million. Another America's Next Top Model alum, Porizkova is most fondly remembered by trannies everywhere as the idol of Octavia St. Laurent in Paris Is Burning.

Linda Evangelista (May 10, 1965) If you watch Isaac Mizrahi's seminal fashion documentary Unzipped (1995), you won't be able to help but think Linda Evangelista is a whiny bitch. She complains about everything the entire movie. You wonder why Mizrahi and everyone else puts up with it. Then, moments before she goes on the runway for his Fall 1994 collection, she stares directly into the camera, seduces you in a second then turns it out all the way down the catwalk. The super among supers who once notoriously purred, "We don't wake up for less than $10,000 a day," was worth every penny. She's fashion's reigning chameleon, able to go from high fashion to commercial with the raise of an eyebrow.

Cindy Crawford (Feb. 20, 1966) The mole that launched a thousand magazine covers, Cindy Crawford was perhaps the most iconic of the supemodels to emerge in the 1980s. She was the approachable bombshell, the girl next door who just happened to be walking a Chanel runway in Paris. Cindy is rarely seen on a runway or in an editorial these days, but whenever she crops up it's a pretty big deal, like mama bird coming home to the roost.

Christy Turlington (Jan. 2, 1969) Quietly stunning, Christy Turlington can nonetheless pose anyone off the page. Perhaps it's all those years of yoga, but her inner serenity and ferocity when it comes to her body language go hand in hand. She can be dynamic, she can be avant garde, she can be powerful, but she's always amazing.

Naomi Campbell (May 22, 1970) What can be said about Naomi Campbell that hasn't already been said that won't land me in jail? The preeminent black supermodel of the past 50 years, Naomi recently celebrated her 25th year in the modeling industry, though her personal life remains front page material. Famous for her temper, the super has managed to stay in the spotlight because she's got more to offer than just a cell phone to the head. A versatile editorial model, she also possesses the best walk ever seen on a runway.

Conversely, we also often ponder why Rachel Berry (AKA Broadway superstar Lea Michele) has such an awkwardly negative relationship with fashion. I mean, hello! She has two gay dads! Bless her heart, she tries, but Rachel fails where Kurt flies. Sadly, the two will be graduating from Glee at the end of the third season. I repeat: Lea Michele and Chris Colfer (and Cory Frankenteen Monteith) will NOT be returning for season 4. Let’s look back before they’re gone.

Forbes Ranks Hollywood’s Most Overpaid Actresses

Forbes Magazine, which clearly has nothing better to do than feed into society’s insatiable appetite for celebrity by enumerating their incomes based on conjecture, scientific (I’m guessing) estimates and good ole hearsay, has come out with its list of “Hollywood’s Highest Paid Actresses.” The list, which reads like a “Really? Her?” of A-list “talent,” is topped by supermom and noted bare-faced adventurer Angelina Jolie who ties with the “actress” formerly (and forever) known as Carrie Bradshaw, one Ms. Sarah Jessica Parker. Between May 1, 2010 and May 1, 2011, these were the lauded ladies who laughed all the way to the bank. [Forbes]

The Oscars Give the Gays the Shaft

It’s one thing for the Oscars to snub Burlesque for Best Original Song, thus denying the gays a performance by our lord and savior, Cherilyn Sarkisian LaPierre Bono Allman, not to mention denying us a gloriously tacky, age-inappropriate Bob Mackie confection weighed down by acres and acres of beads, fringe and sequins. We might get over it. In time.

It’s a completely different thing, however, to deny us our favorite gender-bending, mindfucking, A-list boycrush heartthrob James Franco performing the song. And in Cher drag no less. This is the OSCARS, for Chaz Bono’s sake. The only people watching are the gays, the elderly and the Jews, and I think I can safely say that we are all very disappointed in you, Academy.

Franco tweeted on Monday: ”they pulled this from the oscar show. damn it,” including an audio clip of him “belting” out “You Haven’t Seen the Last of Me Yet.” The alleged plan was to have Jimmy Francs cover the song then Cher to come out and show him how an Oscar-winning legend does it. But considering the Diane Warren-penned, Golden Globe-winning tune has been left out of the nominations, that is merely a pipe dream.

Producers apparently thought it “inappropriate” to devote so much time and attention to a song and movie that were not even nominated. Blah blah blah.

Well Cher, never known for her subtlety, took to her Twitter in a series of rants to give the world a piece of her mind:

“Ok this IS ME BEING A BABY ! MY HEART IS BROKEN ! I WAS UPSET AFTER WINNING THE GOLDEN GLOBE … Not to b nominated by the Academy, but the Music Voting process is different Than the acting directing etc etc … Process ALL ACTORS GET A CHANCE TO VOTE 4 ALL the actors , same with directors etc ! With Orig Song … There is Blue Ribbon Panel of a few people who decide ! Unlike ALL Actors Getting To Decide Who The ACTOR Nominees will b ! … James Franco was going to dress up in the “Welcome to Burlesque outfit & sing U Haven’t Seen the Last of me … I was OVER THE MOON ! cause even if I did get Snubbed by the music part of the Academy … How Cool was it to sing your song … To have YOUR SONG sung by James Fkn Franco in Your Outfit ! Well I guess his singing ( unlike his Acting Sucks ) … But he COULD HAVE LIP SYNCED ! oh well I’m all sour grapes ! It was GREAT THAT HE thought the Song was good enough to try ! … Gotta count our blessings where we find them ! Disappointment passes! But I’ll keep this Song alive.”

Later, these tweets were removed, along with Franco’s, leaving only speculation and hearsay. But it’s 2011 and whenever something happens, someone’s going to see it. Which leads me to believe that there is a vast Academy Awards conspiracy against…well, I haven’t figured out who or what it is against, but once I do….the whole crazy shitshow will come crumbling down like so many Saltine crackers.

My first question when I saw this dress was “WHY did she wear that Nini Ricci disaster to the Golden Globes instead of this?!?” Halle Berry wore this gorgeous Elie Saab Haute Couture Spring/Summer 2011 gown to the 13th Annual Costume Designers Guild Awards held at the Beverly Hilton Hotel in Beverly Hills, and she looked stunning. How does her look match-up to the runway? Let’s take a look with the Red Carpet Report Card.

Halle Berry has one of the best bodies in Hollywood, so she needs something both sophisticated and sexy. This Elie Saab couture dress has just enough sheer detailing to be slightly provocative. It fits her like a glove and the color is amazing with her skin tone. Here is what the dress looked like on the runway:

It fits Halle better than the model! She kept her accessories to a minimum, letting the dress speak for itself as it was shown on the runway. I love the bracelet and small, sparkling earrings. If this was the Oscars, I’d say do a big chandelier in the ear, but she dressed perfectly for the occasion. Grade?

Helena Bonham Carter Talks Boobs, Fondles Her Golden Globes

“Today I’m wearing huge breasts,” Helena Bonham Carter said after being stopped on the Golden Globes‘ red carpet and asked about her attire. The actress walked home with two Golden Globes in hand, though both were on her chest.

Helena added, “It’s amazing what a corset will do. I’m not all that well-endowed. These are my Golden Globes. Who needs Golden Globes when you’ve got these?”

Helena was nominated for Best Supporting Actress but was snubbed by Annette Bening in the category. While the actress lost with the Hollywood Foreign Press, she won in the hearts of several old men watching at a nearby Western Sizzler.

True fans who just happen to be “boob guys” – aren’t they the ones who really matter?

Red Carpet Report Card: Hailee Steinfeld in Prada

The red carpet was packed to the gills with celebrities last night at the Screen Actors Guild Awards, and the young starlets were out in full force. But no one looked better than Hailee Steinfeld in Prada. Let’s analyze her look in the Red Carpet Report Card.

The 14-year-old star of True Grit looked fresh, young and gorgeous in this bright sherbet striped Prada dress. It fits her perfectly from where the stripes fall on her figure to the playful ruffle at the hem. I was not a huge fan of her Golden Globes dress, but she looks perfect here. The hair and makeup are pretty and age-appropriate. So what grade can Hailee hang on her refrigerator tonight?

Well done Hailee! I am very excited to see what this young actress will do with her look in the future.

Anne and James Yuk It Up

ABC premiered the first promo for the Anne Hathaway- and James Franco-hosted Academy Awards and looks like the kids are going the slapstick route. God bless ‘em for tryin’.

I’m not gonna lie, I’m actually looking forward to James and Anne. Hosting the Oscars is a thankless job; after all, you’re dealing with the biggest egos in the world in one room and kids and families watching at home around the world.

This ain’t gonna be Ricky Gervais at the Golden Globes, kids.

On the bright side, both James and Anne were pretty good in their relative SNL hosting duties…and let’s face it, they’re both attractive enough to the point that whatever they say won’t really matter.

Look at ‘em, they’re just so cute when they try!

And the Oscar Nomination Goes to…

The nominees for the 83rd Annual Academy Awards were announced this morning and SHOCKINGLY Edge of Darkness was left out of every single category. Mel Gibson is plotzing right now.

The King’s Speech stuttered its way to 12 nominations, while True Grit lassoed in 10. The Fighter came out swinging and took 8 nods, though not one for its leading man, Mark Wahlberg. The Social Network friened 8 nominations as well, but the hype from Black Swan might have stepped on the film’s toes, garnering only 5 nominations — which, by the way, does not include one for Best Costume Design…the Mulleavy sisters are maniacally cackling in their atelier right now.

Black Swan‘s supporting actresses, Mila Kunis and Barbara Hershey were also shut out. Instead, Amy Adams (The Fighter), Golden Globe winner Melissa Leo (The Fighter), Helena Bonham Carter (The King’s Speech), Jacki Weaver (Animal Kingdom) and 14-year-old Hailee Steinfeld (True Grit) will compete for that honor.

In a surprising twist, Mark Ruffalo earned a (well-deserved) nomination for The Kids Are All Right, which was nominated for three other awards including Best Actress Annette Bening (her fourth nomination and thankfully Hilary Swank is nowhere to be seen), Best Picture and Best Original Screenplay.

Ruffalo will compete against Golden Globe winner Christian Bale (The Fighter), Geoffrey Rush (The King’s Speech), John Hawkes (Winter’s Bone) and Jeremy Renner (The Town).

Host James Franco might have to pull double duty should he win Best Actor (he won’t, Colin Firth‘s all but claimed it and already has his name engraved on the statue). Nominated for 127 Hours, Daniel Desario will face (and arm) off against Firth (The King’s Speech), Jesse Eisenberg (The Social Network), last year’s winner Jeff Bridges (True Grit) and surprise nominee, Javier Bardem (Biutiful), who apparently usurped Ryan Gosling for Blue Valentine.

The Best Actress category, however, held no surprises. Along with Annette Bening, Natalie Portman (Black Swan), Michelle Williams (Blue Valentine), Nicole Kidman (Rabbit Hole) and Jennifer Lawrence (Winter’s Bone) will have me on the edge of my seat in anticipation.

I’m so excited! Besides Fashion Week, there’s no other time of the year I love more than Oscar season! It’s the Super Bowl for the gays…besides the new Glee episode directly after the Super Bowl.

Pot Allegedly Calls Kettle Black

Pulitzer Prize front-runner, The National Enquirer, “reports” that “actress” Scarlett Johansson got all up in “Oscar-winner” Sandra Bullock‘s face, calling her a “man-hungry tramp,” after Bullock “cozied up” to ScarJo’s “ex-husband” Ryan Reynolds.

A “friend” of Johansson says that Scarlett still has “intense feelings for Ryan and feels Sandra isn’t respecting that at all.” Based solely on her film work, I doubt that ScarJo is even capable of an intense feeling, but let’s continue on…

According to this “friend,” Scarlett is having second thoughts and is still holding out hopes for a reconciliation. But as you can probably tell from that subtle Photoshopping above, Sandy’s “relationship” with Ryan has ENDED THAT HOPE.

In spite Johansson’s supposed accusations, Sandy Bulls told bosom buddy Al Roker on Sunday’s Golden Globe red carpet that she and Ryan are not “lovahs” after all:

“I think there will be a collective sigh amongst women across the United States when I say he’s not my lovah…he’s just an amazing friend I’ve had for 10 years and I hope there’s more friendship like that.”

Translation: “Who’s the man-hungry tramp now, beeyotch!”

Red Carpet Report Card: Worst of the Golden Globes

And on to my favorite post of the day: WORST of the Golden Globes. Not only will you be getting my utmost superior opinion on these red carpet catastrophes, but I’ve asked for the also superior opinions of everyone in the Fashion Indie office. Let’s start with the worst of the worst of the worst.

I get severe back and neck pain every time I look at Michelle Williams in this Valentino dress because my brain is sending signals of suffering and agony to the rest of my body. THIS IS A TRAIN WRECK. If you disagree, you are wrong. This is not a matter of opinion, it is a matter of fact, and she looks terrible. Was her stylist wasted when he/she brought this dress to the fitting? I wore a dress like this when I was 12 – I hated it then, and I still hate it now. F

Julie Bowen managed to find the ugliest shade of gray for last night’s Golden Globes. This Tadashi Shoji chiffon gown does not translate, as she looks like a chicken that was plucked and had it’s feathers glued back on asymmetrically. She has a great body, so why hide behind this hideous frock that washes her out? A funny lady shouldn’t strive to look funny. D

Office comment: Drab, like a garden overgrown with weeds

What happened to Christina Aguilera?! She used to be a bombshell, and now she’s just a mess. First of all, YOU ARE NOT CHER. The “strategically placed applique” look of this Zuhair Murad doesn’t work for her because of her curves. And I am not saying she’s pudgy, but sleeves would not hurt her right now. It’s very difficult to wear a strapless dress if it doesn’t fit perfectly. And it looks like she’s wearing a wig! Bad, bad, bad X-tina. D

Everyone in the office is giving me shit for putting Emma Stone in the worst-dressed category, but I really couldn’t care less. This Calvin Klein dress is chic, and I don’t think this blond hair-dying, Lindsey Lohan look-alike has earned the right to wear it yet. Easy A was mediocre at best, I want to see some real acting emotion dammit. The only reason she gets a plus is because her body is great and she can wear this dress. But may she? D+

I weep for Julianne Moore. She is one of the most brilliant actresses in Hollywood, and she constantly makes poor fashion choices. This Lanvin dress makes me say “ain’t nothin’ like mutton,” where is the spit, it’s time to roast this leg of lamb. Really bad color, worse construction and it’s wrinkled. Yuck! It looks like she’s about to enter an amateur jousting match. D-

Office comment: I hate redheads in pink. It was such a green year, and that color looks great on her. Why didn’t she wear green?

It’s a shame half of Halle Berry’s dress got ripped off in the limo door because she looks great from the waist up. This Nina Ricci dress looked amazing on the runway, but it was worn with boots and tights for an edgy feel. This is too tight on her and looks like it might split in the back as soon as she takes her seat. BUT, I love her hair short, and except for the dress, she looks beautiful. D

Office comment: I love Halle Berry, so this upsets me. She can do anything she wants, but not really.

Jennifer Love Hewitt stained her Golden Globes dress at the last minute, so she had to staple this white tablecloth around herself minutes before she arrived. UGH. This Romona Keveza gown was so not a good choice. First of all, SO OVER the big bun. Secondly, she also has a nice, full bust, and this floppy piece of fabric does nothing for it. I hate white, even for wedding dresses, because it’s not flattering and it makes fake tans look more orange than they already are. Beautiful, talented girl, really bad fashion taste. D-

Office comment: A girl with a big bust should wear a sweetheart neckline, something that accentuates but doesn’t let everything flop around.

Red Carpet Report Card: Best of the Golden Globes

Welcome to the Red Carpet Report Card, Golden Globes addition. So many dresses, so little time to grade them all. First, let’s take a look at the best dressed of the night.

My best dressed choice was tied between three different beautiful ladies, but Anne Hathaway stands just a bit above the other two in Armani Privé. For a tall beauty with perfect curves like this, a structured shoulder is the best thing you can do for your body. She looks so graceful and statuesque in these beautiful rose sequins.

The back is to die for. It’s provocative, feminine and lovely. Anyone else, I would have said the hair should be worn up, but there is absolutely nothing wrong with the way Anne looks. She is a goddess. She gets an A+.

Green was the color of the night, and no one wore it better than Angelina Jolie in Versace. Again, we’re seeing a beautiful padded shoulder that opens up the back and draws attention to her tiny waist. She looks glamorous without that “going to prom” nod that so many celebrities decided to do. I love the top to bottom sparkles and her elegant and unfussy hair. Grade A.

January Jones is a Hollywood bombshell, period, end of sentence. Not only is she talented enough to be on one of the best TV shows of our time, she is the only actress who could pull of this sexy, fringed Versace gown. Everything from the color, to her hair and that beautiful cleavage, January is a fashion risk-taker, and I love her for it. A

Pregnancy has never looked so rosy on the red carpet. Natalie Portman was glowing from the inside out in this pink and red Viktor & Rolf gown with an intricately detailed rose on the chest. She looks healthy, happy and she won best actress for Black Swan. What’s not to love here? A

In a Hollywood full of tramps and star fuckers, how beautiful it is to see a real lady stand by her man. Catherine Zeta Jones was absolutely glowing in this green Monique Lhuillier princess gown. It was so good to see her and Michael Douglas on the red carpet together. Beauty from the inside out: A.

If you have a flat chest, a 1920s style dress like this is prefect for your body. Jayma Mays got it right in this elegant and sexy Alberta Ferretti plunging v-neck gown. The accessories and curly locks perfectly complete the look. The lipstick looks a little orange, but it works against her hair and skin tones. A-

Now let’s talk about a big chest. Scarlet Johansson has a gorgeous, very voluptuous rack, and this dress enhances in a different way. Instead of spilling her cleavage all over the red carpet, Scarjo chose this demure and elegant Elie Saab gown in a lovely dusty pink. It sparkles just the right amount, and the sleeve is extremely flattering. Plus, she had the best hair on the red carpet. A-

I commend Leighton Meester for trying to take fashion risks, but lately they’ve been backfiring hardcore. I was pleased to see her looking so elegant and sophisticated in Burberry Prorsum on the red carpet last night. Her makeup is absolutely gorgeous and those Jimmy Choo shoes are fab-o-rama. It’s not my favorite, but I do love the dress and her. B

I’m not used to putting Eva Longoria in the best dressed category for her red carpet looks, but she looked ravishing last night in a fitted, black Zac Posen gown. It fits her like a glove and her whoa cleavage is saying hello to every single man in that crowd. Slightly bored, but I think that’s a good thing in her case. B

Here is the thing about Lea Michele‘s Oscar de la Renta gown: It does not photograph well. When watching her on the red carpet, she looked young, fresh and vibrant in this light salmon dress. It looks too consuming in photographs. But the color on her is amazing. I am so sick of this whispy, bull-shitty kind of up-do, so no points there. But the shoes, HELLO! B-

Jane Fonda is many things: a 2-time Oscar winner; a fitness guru; to some, a blatant traitor. But last night she added one more title to her already impressive roster: Nip-Slipper.

Jane looked stunning while presenting Best Original Song during the ceremony in a bold-shouldered column.

However, something kept popping out of the senior citizen’s sheer top…

At first I thought it was part of her dress, but upon repeated viewing that little red dot was definitely an areola.

And I say bravo. If at 73 your boobs aren’t grazing the floor, you’re definitely doing something right.

What I Learned from the Golden Globes

Last night’s Golden Globes ceremony was a master class in awards show etiquette, or rather, the lack-thereof. Between the magnums of champagne on each table, host Ricky Gervais‘ ever-present glass of beer and the air of forced pleasantries, the Beverly Hilton was teetering on the verge of a knock-down drag out brawl all night. Somehow everything managed to go off without a hitch, and along the way some wisdom was imparted.

1. Ricky Gervais will never be asked to host anything ever again, short of a Bar Mitzvah on Long and/or Staten Island. Gervais’ brilliant and acerbic monologue had me in stitches, but you don’t make fun of Angelina Jolie, Scientology and Cher and expect to get away with it. What made Gervais opening monologue and openly drunken interludes so great was the fact that he was spot-on. But as Hollywood has proven time and time again, it takes itself far too seriously.

2. Michelle Williams might actually stand a chance at the Oscars. Front-runners Natalie Portman and Annette Bening both took home Best Actress (Drama and Comedy, respectively), however, the Oscars don’t separate performances by genre. Portman and Bening have been splitting the awards down the middle this awards season, leaving me to wonder if Michelle Williams might just slip in should they divide the Academy’s vote. Or, even better, what if there was a tie à la Kate Hepburn and Babs Streisand in 1969?

3. Peg Bundy is amazing. There’s nothing I love more than seeing an actor or actress finally get her due. Katey Segal is perhaps best known for her role as Peg Bundy on classic 90s sitcom, Married…with Children, in addition to 8 Simple Rules and as the voice of Leela on Futurama. In short, she’s been working her ass off for years with little to no recognition. So when she won Best Actress in a Drama for Sons of Anarchy, I couldn’t help but feel not only happy but proud of that leopard-print spandex-wearing, big-haired, chain-smoking angel from on high. See also, Melissa Leo winning for The Fighter.

4. Glee is the best thing to happen to the gays since the birth of Liza. Best Supporting Actresses, Chris Colfer and Jane Lynch delivered two of the best acceptance speeches of the night; the former a heartwarming and inspiring message to gay teens and the latter a comedic tour de force ending with Lynch thanking her wife and kids. When Glee finally won Best Comedy, you could just hear all the little gays around the country squeal in pitch-perfect delight.

5. Robert DeNiro can continue making Meet the Fockers movies til he dies. Watching the montage of Bobby DeNiro’s films over the past 40 years (which for some reason included The Adventures of Rocky & Bullwinkle), I was reminded how prolific and amazing an actor he is. His legacy will remain in tact with such films as Mean Streets, The Godfather – Part II, Taxi Driver, The Deer Hunter, Raging Bull, The Last King of Comedy, Goodfellas, Cape Fear and Casino. Hopefully time or excessive drinking will erase the past 15 years or so from our collective conscience.

Broad Shoulders & Sparkles Win at The Golden Globes

My favorite look of the evening came by way of Angelina Jolie and Anne Hathaway: each a sparkling tower topped with broadening shoulders. The emerald vision of Atelier Versace on Angelina gathers at the waist for a 30′s reminiscent silhouette, while Armani Privé on Anne Hathaway gets it straight all the way down. Long, luminous dark tresses lay over the shoulder, down, sleek like the dresses themselves. Perhaps it’s a dark-haired siren kinda thang. From the front they look perfectly demure, but from the back…

…it’s more of a seductive story. The hint of back from Angelina is enough for us to see her inked stripes of words. The deep, almost bum-baring scoop from Anne Hathaway gives us a hint the skin she shows in Love and Other Drugs. Both the dress and the film done in sexcellent taste.

Leighton Meester attempted the look in Missoni, but didn’t nail it quite like Anne & Ange. It’s almost there, but the shoulders only half commit to the broadness, and the lack of glimmer leaves her less than luminous. The muted neutrals wash her out on the carpet, and I vote open back over thigh high slit.

Following in the footsteps of Jennifer Lopez, Beyoncé and Eva Longoria, Gwen Stefani has joined the ranks of beautiful faces for L’Oreal Paris. In addition to the print ad preview, you can see her first full commercial for the brand on Sunday when it debuts during the Golden Globes.

Stefani is obviously excited about her new campaign:

“I can’t believe I get to be one of the L’Oréal Paris girls,” Stefani said. “I love playing dress up, on stage or shooting videos, it’s always been one of my favorite parts of being in a band.”

Red Carpet Report Card: Sophia Bush in Oliver Tolentino

Awards season is upon us, which means dozens of celebrities will be getting a Red Carpet Report Card. Whose will be fridge-worthy and which celebs will be hiding from their parents? Only time will tell. There are lots of parties to kick off the season, so let’s take a look at Sophia Bush in Oliver Tolentino at Audi & J. Mendel Celebrate the Kick-Off of Golden Globes Week.

This eco-friendly frock from designer Oliver Tolentino is made of “Pina” or pineapple fiber, “abaca” lining and fresh water pearls. I really like this dress and it fits her well, but it looks a little old for her the way it’s styled. Check out this (terrible quality) photo of the dress on the runway:

If Sophia would have done something more exciting with her hair and carried a different, perhaps brighter bag, I would have given her an A. But she looks lovely and sophisticated, so I give her a:

Nice work! Many will walk the Red Carpet but few will receive passing grades on their Report Card.

5 Things Lindsay Needs to Do to Rehab Her Career

Now that Lindsay Lohan has officially left Betty Ford, it’s time to get what’s left of her career back on track. It won’t be easy, but here are 5 things Lilo can do that certainly won’t hurt.

1. Go back to being a redhead. Everyone and their enabling mother is blonde in Hollywood these days. Linds looked her best with her natural auburn tresses, in spite of that tacky “Firecrotch” comment from that bloated piece of trash, Brandon Davis.

2. Take the Oscar bait. I’ve always regarded Lindsay as one of the more talented actresses of her generation. She has what few possess and what is impossible to teach: star quality. Oscar-winners Meryl Streep and Jane Fonda have both sung her praises, but she’s not going to get that little man dipped in gold with crap like Just My Luck and I Know Who Killed Me. She needs to take a challenging role that no one will touch — especially since no one will touch her right now — and prove that she’s a legitimate actress. With that said, I need her to gain 300 lbs and play a lesbian who dies from cancer during the Holocaust.

3. Put out a dance record. Though her singing career is on the same shaky ground as her acting career, Lindsay had a few good dance-pop songs during her stretch as a recording artist. Case in point, the 2004 masterwork “Rumors” and 2008′s equally-infectious “Bossy.” Throw that raspy voice over a pounding bass beat and the gays will come running — it’s like our Bat Signal.

4. Avoid the paparazzi. Lindsay managed to sustain her career, or at least her presence in the pop culture zeitgeist, through her love/hate relationship with the paps, but she’s not a Paris Hilton or a Kim Kardashian. She actually has talent. Therefore, she doesn’t have to resort to cheap tricks to keep her name in the headlines. Also, a little downtime might do her good; it builds a little mystery and in this age of over-exposure it would be a nice change of pace to be able to wonder what someone is doing instead of seeing their vagina spread all over the internet.

5. Kill Emma Stone. There’s only room for one husky-voiced, redheaded starlet in Tinseltown and Emma has all but usurped Lohan’s niche, thanks in part to her wonderful, (Golden Globe-nominated) performance in Easy A. As much as I love Emma, Lindsay was here first and I’ve already invested the past 7 years of my life into Team Lilo. Now that she (somehow) has her license back, she can easily run Emma down at her Starbucks of choice and floor it out of there before anyone’s the wiser.

As she tweeted on New Year’s Day, this is the first day of the rest of her life. If Britney Spears and Drew Barrymore can get it together, there’s hope for Lindsay.

4. Run over the paparazzi. Now that she has her license back — god knows how that happened — Lindsay should hop behind her SUV and floor it through the crowd of paparazzi that surround her every move. She’s sustained her career through a love/hate relationship with the tabloids, but to be taken seriously she needs to leave that life behind.

Emma Stone and Garrett Hedlund Burning Up W’s ‘Hot’ Covers

Recent Golden Globe nominee (Best Actress – Comedy for Easy A) and Lohan Droid 2.0, Emma Stone covers W magazine as part of their “Who’s Hot” in music, film and fashion issue, along with TRON: Legacy hunk, Garret Hedlund.

The photogenic pair were shot by Inez Van Lamsweerde and Vinoodh Matadin and styled by Alex White, and though I usually love the work of all involved, W‘s really dropped the ball on interesting covers.

Lest I remind you.

And while I live for Givenchy and its brilliant creative director Riccardo Tisci, the Givenchy gabardine pants on Garrett don’t do anything for him, nor, more importantly, for me.

On the bright side, in addition to Stone and Hedlund, W‘s list of “who’s happening now” also includes fashion designers Haider Ackermann and Joseph Altuzarra.

I’d say they definitely live up to the “hot” ranking in my book, even though my criteria is a little different than W‘s…and usually involves a sexual evaluation.

Golden Globes Nominations Are Out: The TV Edition

I already hate the Golden Globes for making me divide my coverage between TV and film. The only comforting thought is seeing the hoighty-toighty movie stars being forced to interact with those nerds from The Big Bang Theory. More Golden Globe overload after the jump.

First order of business, Jennifer Love-Hewitt is nominated for Best Actress – Miniseries or Made-for-TV Movie for The Client List. If you haven’t seen it, J. Love plays a suburban housewife who gets pulled into the seedy uderbelly of high-class whorin’, gets addicted to coke and loses her kids and husband, all while Cybil Shepard drunkenly yells at her. Dame Judi Dench ain’t got shit on that.

What really grinds my gears re: the Globes is their insistence on lumping the supporting actors into one category, so that Drama, Comedy and Mini-Series/TV Movies all compete against one another. Why not send the same message and just eliminate the supporting categories all together?

Despite the stiff competition, Glee‘s Chris Colfer and Jane Lynch (2nd year in a row) scored nominations. Lea Michele and Matthew Morrison also repeat their nominations from last year’s Globes, for Best Actress and Actor, respectively. The kids in New Directions will defend their Best Comedy crown against Modern Family, 30 Rock, The Big Bang Theory, The Big C and Nurse Jackie.

The rest of the nominees in the comedy categories are kind of a snooze, with just a repeat of what already took place at the Emmys months ago. Will Edie Falco (Nurse Jackie) and Jim Parsons (The Big Bang Theory) reprise their wins? Have I ever seen either of their shows. Do I even care at this point?

Here’s a hint, the answer to at least two of those questions is “Hell to the no.”

Far more interesting, much like the movie nominations, are the drama contenders. The Best Actor – Drama category is perhaps the most competitive this year, with Jon Hamm (Mad Men), Michael C. Hall (Dexter), Bryan Cranston (Breaking Bad) and newcomer Steve Buscemi (Boardwalk Empire) vying for top honors. By this point, Hugh Laurie is the Meryl Streep of this category and would get nominated for taking a dump on his cane then curing cancer with it.

Elisabeth Moss earns a well-deserved nomination for Best Actress for Mad Men (no Supporting purgatory for her), and will face off against Julianna Margulies (The Good Wife), Piper Perabo (Covert Affairs), Katey Segal (Sons of Anarchy; meanwhile, I had no idea Peg Bundy was back on TV and I would like to put forth my vote for a Sons of Anarchy/Modern Family crossover episode) and Kyra Sedgwick (The Closer).

As for the Best Drama Globe, MVP Mad Men comes in with three previous wins but faces competition from fellow cable fare, Boardwalk Empire, Breaking Bad and Dexter, with The Good Wife as the only broadcast series represented.

We’ll find out who will win, lose or drink til they work up enough courage to talk to George Clooney on Sunday, January 16th, 2011.

Golden Globes Nominations Are Out: The Film Edition

Seems like the Hollywood Foreign Press couldn’t help but steal the Critics’ Choice Awards thunder and announced the nominees for the 2011 Golden Globes a day afterwards. Let’s delve into what may or may not be the best in film of 2010.

Despite scathing reviews and dysmal box office returns, The Tourist and Burlesque were both nominated for Best Picture – Musical/Comedy, which just goes to show you that…actually I’m not really sure at all what that goes to show anyone. Other nominees include Alice in Wonderland, Red and The Kids Are All Right, which has already won by default.

Both Johnny Depp and Angelina Jolie were nominated for Best Actor and Actress, respectively, in the same genre, however Cher is conspicuously absent. Now, who does the HFPA think they’re fooling? They can nominate Depp and Angie for sleepwalking through a movie no one saw, but snub Cher after wielding a crowbar in her first film in over 7 years? Someone call the AARP, the Globes are abusing a senior citizen.

Elsewhere, the Globes mirror the CCAs in their unabashed hard-on for Black Swan, The Social Network and The King’s Speech, each receiving multiple nominations in the acting categories, as well as a nomination for Best Picture – Drama. They’re joined in that auspicious category by Inception and The Fighter, with Danny Boyle‘s 127 Hours mysteriously snubbed.

The flick’s star, James Franco, is however nominated and released a statement to MTV about how “grateful” he is. And he also released a statement to Matt Lauer of the Today show about his love of texting pictures of fat animals.

I’m seriously excited about his various award speeches in the coming months.

Marky Mark Walhlberg (The Fighter) replaces Jeff Bridges in the competitive Best Actor – Drama category, otherwise, the nominees are exactly the same as the Critics’ Choice. Meanwhile, the nominees in the Best Actor – Comedy section will be getting drunk on the free champagne while Johnny Depp chuckles to himself at getting nominated twice for essentially the same character he’s been playing for the past 15 years.

It’s becoming clearer and clearer that the race to watch this year is Best Actress. Natalie Portman, Michelle Williams, Nicole Kidman and Jennifer Lawrence all re-scored the nomination, with Halle Berry somehow sneaking into the Drama category. Annette Bening has already engraved her name on the Best Actress – Comedy trophy, as her only real competition coming from her Kids Are All Right co-star, the incredible Julianne Moore.

Last night, Randi and I attended the Giorgio Armani exhibition of exclusive dresses worn by celebrity actresses and musical artists at red carpet events. Every dress matched perfectly to the women who were wearing it: Lady Gaga with the futuristic gown for the Grammy, Anne Hathaway with the amazing blue gown for the 2009 Golden Globes Awards and the Black gown worn by Penelope Cruz at the 2010 Golden Globes Awards.

The exhibition will be there for three weeks at the Armani store on the 5th avenue.

I don’t understand how you can have lots of cash money fundages that you didn’t have to lay on your back to make or get on your knees for and you can’t for the love of Sasha Fierce’s glitter poo find a stylist with an original point of view *Grrrr*.

We here at FashionINDIE are blessed to be able to be the kind of label whores that aren’t addicted to the labels, therefore we can reach out for fashion that hasn’t been crammed down the blow holes of the public. I’m belly achin’ of course because the Golden Globes went down a few days ago (and by ‘Golden Globes WENT DOWN’, I don’t mean Pam Anderson made another tape with Tommy) and even tho the ladies were dressed to the Motha-McLovin-T, the ensembles were all so monotonous, typical and just plain ol’ icky caca boring. You know things are wrong when you start to make life choices such as, “should I keep watching this trash or go in my closet and smother myself in a pile of couture?” It was more painful to watch than sitting in another city whilst your FashionINDIE co-workers live blog from the sidelines of a fashion show *ahem*…………and that’s real tangible pain like kidney stones or asbestos panties or anger sex with Anna Wintour.

F*CK UPS: Drew Barrymore

The CAA Golden Globes were anything but groundbreaking this year. As always, P. Diddy stood out amongst the hundreds of black ties and tuxedos in his sleek, oversized bow-tie, Angelina Jolie sucked back on Heinekens while the rest of her table sipped champagne and Drew Barrymore looked like she got hit by a speeding semi. Although her dress reminded me of a cross between Ariel and Jasmine from their respective Disney movies, I could barely focus on her fashion faux pas because I was too busy staring at her rat’s nest hair. Roots showing, fly-aways galore, messy curls and a mane full of secrets (thank you Mean Girls) is not the way to look at a prestigious awards event. Oh, and Drew might want to brush with Crest Extra-White toothpaste next time…
