Spotlight 616: Get Involved!

Edited by

SOURCE:Spotlight 616: Get Involved!

Are you from the Michigan-area and looking to participate in a really fun fashion event? Spotlight 616 is looking to recruit hair stylists, make up artists, photographers and aspiring models for an upcoming event! It’s all happening on September 30th, in the midst of Art Prize, in downtown Grand Rapids! Spotlight 616 is going to showcase an array of independent clothing retailers, models, photographers, hair stylists, make up artists – all local to the Grand Rapids area. It’s not your typical fashion show. It’s going to be stations of teams working in their own locations in a style battle format!

Spotlight 616: Get Involved!

Each team will collaborate to style up five completed “looks” – one for each model over the course of one evening. The public will be encouraged to walk from station to station to observe what the teams are creating at any time. The audience will also have the opportunity to vote on their favorite look to determine the winning team. Style battling is a rising trend and I’m so excited to see Grand Rapids take part in it! When the time is up, the models will take part in a grand finale walk. There are prizes and more details at their website. If you’re interested, be sure to get involved! Click here to find out how you can participate! Let me know if you have any questions – I’ll be happy to help out!

I’ve known Ryan Pavlovich and his work for a few years now, and all I can say is each set he puts out is better than the last.  Concentrating on fashion and music photography, Ryan adds an artistic aesthetic to his photographs that I’m sure all of you other art nerds (like myself) will appreciate.  Music is huge in Grand Rapids (MI), and Ryan knows all of the best locations and venues to shoot all of the talent Michigan (and a few other states) have to offer.  I’ve seen him in action a few times at shows and on shoots, and I’m always incredibly impressed with the results. Check it out:

Ryan says:

“I take pictures, live in Grand Rapids, and grew up on loud rock.  Like any other kid, I had magazine photos covering my walls and no idea what I wanted to do besides be cool.  I love what I do, the places I’ve gone, and the people I know more and more each day. I’m still working on the cool part.”

If you like fresh ideas, good rock music, and the carefree attitude that knows photography is an art form, not a dollar sign, check out more of Ryan P’s work on CultHe’s also got a site with tons of photos, and a blog with updates, photos, and great entries like this one:

“What ever happened to the time when rock stars where thought of as gods, actors and models where sexy and wasted most of the time, and people actually made music, movies, and images that were worth a shit? It seems to me that maybe because I’m getting a touch older I don’t view all these things the way I did when I was younger and dreaming more, but it also seems as though something has been lost.

Just a random thing I started thinking about recently. I feel that a few years ago I looked up to so many people and now I’m looking at the new batch that is supposed to be looked up to, and I’m not impressed. Call me biased, but I think we need to raise the bar with some things… Just think about it.”

I couldn’t agree more…now go tell him what you think! (And again, check out more photos on Cult)
