The three-year court battle between Gucci and Guess has come to an end, for now, with Judge Shira Scheindlin ruling in favor of Gucci. The PPR-held Italian luxury brand, however, only received a small fraction of the $221 million it had originally claimed.

While far from the trial of the century, the trademark infringement case between Guess and Gucci is at least turning out to be the trial of the year…so far — after all Lindsay Lohan‘s been lying low lately. Marc Fisher, CEO of Marc Fisher Footwear, the exclusive footwear licensee of the defendant, Guess, wrapped up his testimony in court on Wednesday where emotions ran a little high.

The trademark infringement case between Guess and Gucci is scheduled to wrap up next week, and it’s not looking too great for Guess. Their case hinges on proving that either they came up with the interlocking “G” pattern first, or that other brands have also used a similar design. CEO Paul Marciano tried to prove just that when he brought in a photo of a woman carrying a Givenchy clutch with the square “G.”
