Alexander McQueen‘s spring 2012 collection was another in a long series of triumphs for Sarah Burton. And while the dresses and skirt suits were robustly romantic, Guido Palau‘s masks threatened to steal the show.

Reminiscent of his work for Savage Beauty at The Met, Palau nonetheless thought that “[t]he idea seemed quite extreme, but it’s actually very pretty.” You say pretty, Guido, we say STUNNSIES.

Louis Vuitton’s Fall Campaign Goes to the Dogs

For their upcoming fall-winter print campaign, shot by Steven Meisel and set to launch in August, Louis Vuitton cast some real bitches.

Out of dozens of hopefuls, only seven pedigree pooches made the final cut, along with Zuzanna Bijoch, Daphne Groeneveld, Gertrud Hegelund, Nyasha Matonhodze, Anaïs Pouliot and Fei Fei Sun.

Karl Templer did the styling, Pat McGrath did the make-up and Guido Palau did the hair…at least the human hair. But considering how classy these canines are, they probably had their own glam squad. [WWD]

Behind McQueen’s Beautiful ‘Savage’ Masks

Guido Palau, a longtime hair stylist for Alexander McQueen, didn’t feel like wigging out so he created about 90 masks for the Costume Institute‘s Savage Beauty exhibit.

The masks, crafted from leather, jewels, burlap, lace, felt, fur and feathers, were meant to compliment the extraordinary pieces without overpowering them — if that’s even at all possible.

Palau wanted to do right by the late designer for whose shows hair was “always an important part.” Finally, a Guido you can be proud of. [NYT]

BASH: Guido Palau Only Knows How To Braid

It seems to me that Guido Palau was lacking inspiration when it came to hair-styling for the Spring 2010 shows. A braid is a pretty common hairstyle, but for Palau to style messy braids for both Alexander Wang and Miu Miu is pretty lazy. The only difference between the styles were the part placements, on the side for Wang and in the middle for Miu Miu. I like the look, don’t get me wrong, but is there more to Palau’s repertoire than braids?

BEHIND THE BEAUTY: Alexander McQueen

Peter Philips on the makeup he did for Alexander McQueen: “We were inspired by clowns, divas and Pierrot, with a bit of Joan Crawford thrown in.” Using Chanel products, makeup artist Peter Philips created an “extreme image of glamor” with a very white face and a dark lip, drawn in a wide oval around the mouth.

Meanwhile, hairstylist Guido Palau taped sculptures made of spray-painted Coke cans to the models’ heads, which were wrapped with stockings.
