Got any ketchup laying around from this past Memorial Day Weekend? If so, you’re in luck because this cheap condiment doubles as a beauty tool. No more wasting money on outrageous creams; your next favorite skin and hair product is available at the nearest supermarket.

Hair:

Outdoor pools are a hot commodity in the summer, but chlorine-stained hair is not. Solution? Apply a ketchup hair mask for 20 minutes once or twice a week to remove the minerals that create chlorine’s dreaded green tinge.

Skin:

1. If you ever burn yourself, lather on some organic ketchup to minimize pain, redness and scarring. Ketchup contains lycopene, a chemical that increases the skin’s ability to resist the effects of UV light.

2. Mix organic ketchup with sea salt to create an exfoliating body scrub. The salt will remove dead skin cells and ketchup will soften new skin and cleanse your pores.

3. Combine 4oz organic ketchup, 2oz mayonnaise and 2 spoons of ground coffee to create a miracle facial mask. Apply to your face for 10 minutes daily to clear acne, minimize wrinkles and restore youthful skin.

Do not hold onto your split ends just because your hair looks longer – it’s not flattering. Your hair will look noticeably healthier and voluminous with just a few snips of those straggly ends.

There are a few tips and tricks that many women underestimate when they get in and out of the shower, some maybe the solution to their problem.

When hair is wet it is the most fragile and vulnerable to breakage. Wet hair, should be treated with care almost like a 100 year old piece of lace, this is because your hair becomes much more stretchable and when tugged, it may cause healthy hair to turn into hair that is damaged and full of spilt ends—and who really wants to touch breakable hair? No one.

\When in the shower, shampoo the whole head while only conditioning the bottom half of your hair, this will allow the roots to create volume with dimension and a less oily scalp. During this process, many women will start combing their hair “just to distribute product evenly” or to detangle when really the comb is pulling the scalp, which destroys the hair’s natural follicles. Do not comb!

Color treated hair, should always be maintained and frequent in conditioning. Using a color treated repair shampoo and conditioner will not only maintain the color but also protects the color from the sun’s harmful rays with UVA protectant—Yes ladies, go the extra cents to take your hair to the next level. This also means staying away from the 2 in 1 shampoo and conditioner.

Getting out the shower… Females… Never “ put towel over your head and start rubbing against the hair” instead dab/pat or gently scrunch (for beach tousled hair) with your towel. A cotton pillowcase or towel may come in handy as it takes away static, which causes hair to frizz up. Putting some leave in conditioner can also soften and detangle the hair (but remember not on the roots!). Also, leave your hair to air-dry before going straight to the blow-dryer, doing your make up first will give you less heat time and more air time.

Next time while in the shower think of these simple tips and it can take a huge difference in your hair’s strength, texture, color and volume. Happy scrubbing everyone!

I’m usually not a sucker for an informercial, but Wen got me good. (Note. This is not an infomercial. I bought it, loved it, and now must tell ye Indies about it). Wen is a cleansing conditioner. created by the zen celebrity hair master Chaz Dean who stopped using shampoo on himself and his clients 14 years ago knowing the damage those harsh chemicals do to a follicle. And if you know a little too much about me, you’ll know that I stopped shampooing my hair nearly a year ago at the advice of many blogs and the famed curly hair specialists at Devachan Salon. Well, I just got my all-natural *WAIT! There’s more!* package of Cleansing Conditioner, Re Moist Treatment, Texture Balm, Styling Cream, and a wide tooth comb for good measure, and the results are <del>kind of</del> amazing.

[No, that's not me, but she used Wen too, and my hair looks and feels quite akin.]

Why is the Wen cleansing conditioner so fantastical, you ask? It’s your everything cream. All at once it is shampoo, conditioner and leave-in conditioner. So essentially it’s the only hair product you need.

I used it last night on some seriously damaged hair (really, I’m -eeek- a few months overdue for a haircut) and the results make me believe I can continue on like this.

Because I ordered from the infomercial, I got the following products – and had to damn-near start a fight to make them not send more stuff/sign me up for things:

I used the Cleansing Conditioner as per the instructions – first product you put on in the shower and the last thing you wash off – with the recommend amount, about 20 pumps per use (for my type of hair). Which by the way is the only drawback I have found. Chaz insists that the more you use and the longer you keep it on, the better your hair will be, but is that a selling ploy or the fortunate-for-him truth. It sounds like a bit of both.

I then used the deep conditioner “Remoist Treatment” as an overnight hair mask. OOOH my hair looked fresh out of the salon by time I woke up.

The “Styling Cream” was refreshingly not sticky, and thus didn’t leave me with that icked out feeling. And though it says sweet almond mint, smells like a fruit cocktail which I didn’t mind at all.

As far as I’ve found, you can get this package for $29.95, or a bigger 3 month supply for $89.95. You can also order from a third party like Amazon or QVC – a 16 oz bottle ranges from $28-$40. But from the way I felt after using the deep conditioner, I must recommend the package deal.

Plus, Chaz Dean has an interesting story – photographer turned hair and makeup artist who now capitalizes on the whole package.

I’ll keep using it and tell you Wen.

After devoting the last ten years to creating people and planet-friendly products, organically-driven hair care manufacturer, Eufora Intl., realized it was time to revamp their image to better reflect their commitment to high-quality, healthy, environmentally-conscious beauty. All Eufora products are based in or contain an active amount of Certified Organic Aloe Vera Gel, which contains all 22 Amino Acids. In addition, Eufora utilizes the most advanced botanical ingredients available that have scientifically been proven to benefit the hair, scalp and skin, as well as pure essential oils to fragrance all products for an aromatherapy experience. Eufora’s unique blends of botanical, vitamin and other non-carcinogenic ingredients deliver performance that exceeds the highest of expectations.

PRODUCTS:

Pure Cleanse Shampoo: A premier, non-sulfate cleansing solution for scalp conditions and
sensitivities alleviates the associated symptoms such as dandruff and seborrhea. $20.95

Urgent Repair Replenishing Treatment: This protein-rich restructuring conditioning treatment
restores health and vitality to dry and damaged hair, offers soothing, healing benefits for skin
conditions and sun overexposure, and menthol and camphor to stimulate the scalp. $22.50

Formation: This whipped styling solution is an industry breakthrough for foaming styling
products that eliminates the dangerous and damaging chemicals found in mousse products:
isobutene and propane. It also offers a true “wear-in” conditioning benefit and protection
against sun and environmental damage. $19.50

Elevate: Advanced technology makes this the cleanest aerosol finishing spray on the market This layer-friendly, fast-drying working spray provides a firm hold that leaves hair moveable and workable while protecting against UV rays.$20.95

So the above might sound a bit like a press release, but I have to assure you guys that these products are worth trying. My hair has never been shinier or looked healthier, and you won’t find a better frizz controller on the market (small orange bottle above), believe me, I straighten my Shirley Temple curls daily. The above pics are from my bathroom, both Daniel and I are hooked on this product and will not buy anything else…just thought we’d share!
