Describing himself as “the one who ties together flower and person,” the former chef creates each of these masterpieces by bunching the flowers/veggies together onto the hair, just like a florist would arrange a bouquet.

You are what you eat, or rather in this case, you eat what you are…

We’ve decided to take on this challenge and dip-dye my hair, mermaid style (beware brunettes, you’ll have to commit to a minor bleach job).  My freshly bleached tips went from purple to blue to green, giving me a cool hued rainbow effect, without going too crazy.  Since April is all about being conscious of the environment and the products we use, go with Manic Panic, a cruelty free and vegan hair dye.  Check out the final result:

The Katniss Side Braid

There is no question The Hunger Games has garnered a lot of attention with the movie release, Capitol Fashion and the infamous side braid of Katniss Everdeen. This style kept Katniss cool even in the hottest situations, including a forest fire.

And just in case that wasn’t enough inspiration to go out into the night and rock a grungy ballerina bun, here’s some eye candy that will surely do the trick!

Do not hold onto your split ends just because your hair looks longer – it’s not flattering. Your hair will look noticeably healthier and voluminous with just a few snips of those straggly ends.

What does she think about her post-Hermione chopped locks?  ”I’d never been allowed to cut my hair off, so I just seized the first opportunity. It wasn’t meant to be rebellious–it certainly wasn’t my Britney Spears moment.”

When hair is wet it is the most fragile and vulnerable to breakage. Wet hair, should be treated with care almost like a 100 year old piece of lace, this is because your hair becomes much more stretchable and when tugged, it may cause healthy hair to turn into hair that is damaged and full of spilt ends—and who really wants to touch breakable hair? No one.

Color treated hair, should always be maintained and frequent in conditioning. Using a color treated repair shampoo and conditioner will not only maintain the color but also protects the color from the sun’s harmful rays with UVA protectant—Yes ladies, go the extra cents to take your hair to the next level. This also means staying away from the 2 in 1 shampoo and conditioner.

Getting out the shower… Females… Never “ put towel over your head and start rubbing against the hair” instead dab/pat or gently scrunch (for beach tousled hair) with your towel. A cotton pillowcase or towel may come in handy as it takes away static, which causes hair to frizz up. Putting some leave in conditioner can also soften and detangle the hair (but remember not on the roots!). Also, leave your hair to air-dry before going straight to the blow-dryer, doing your make up first will give you less heat time and more air time.

 Next time while in the shower think of these simple tips and it can take a huge difference in your hair’s strength, texture, color and volume. Happy scrubbing everyone!

Now this is one of my personal favorites because I personally rock it and I think it works on every guy. It’s takes nothing to really maintain and is perfect for the sweltering Summer.

On 4:00 PM on a Friday back in January, Clemons received the call that Lady Gaga wanted him to play on a her new album. He replied saying which days he was available. But no, that’s not how the Haus of Gaga conducts business, “No, she needs you in New York City right now!”. Clemons, being a self proclaimed Gaga-ite, he hopped on a plane from Florida and raced to the studio, where he met Lady Gaga for the first time.

She wanted Hair to have this Springsteen vibe. ”She said ‘we’ll put the tape on and you just play,’” Clemons says. “She said to me, ‘Play from your heart. Play what you feel.’ It was all very pure.”

He’s on that entire track, but just epically solos in Edge of Glory. And thus his stoop sitting cameo in the video will be watched forever.

RIP Clarence Clemons. May the Big Man be playing the big horn in the sky now.

Going chronologically here, when I arrived at the backstage area, the models were all in run-through mode so there was zero motion by the ready mirrors. This gave me a moment to check out the Anna Sui Beauty Bar - she was showing press like me her signature perfumes, her new shoe collaboration with Hush Puppies, and her collection of spectacles.

I told you I went a little nuts with the glasses, but they’re so fly I had to give you a little show of them.

That was fun, but seriously, back to the real models. Zuzanna Bijoch and Daphne Groeneveld give serious backstage face.

The über talented Pat McGrath was responsible for the cosmetic creation. The aesthetic is perfect natural skin with futuristic lashes and lids. She achieved this look with tons of mascara infused with beeswax for extra thickness and playing with liner above the crease of the lid. Just a very small amount of blush on the apple of the cheek keeps the face nude without looking dead. The light white shimmer on the eye is Snow Blossom by Covergirl.

The famed Garren styled the smooth mod sixties hair that carried the show. He calls the look the “Mod Bardot” with fullness at the crown and full fringe with a center part, “Kind of the way Anna [Sui] wears her hair.” To get that voluminous lift at the root, he used Furterer Volumea. Girls with shorter hair were styled in that curly Twiggy kind of way. He envisions this hairstyle on girls having fun, not taking itself too seriously. And we’ve been forewarned, Garren states more as a fact than a vague prediction, “Fringe will be for Fall.”

I serendipitously crossed paths with Anna Sui on my way to enter the front of house to watch the show (we heard the announcement, FIVE MINUTES!) and I managed to squeeze two questions in:

What are you most excited about for your show?

“I hope people like it, that’s what I’m feeling.”

From what I’ve seen backstage, I’ve noticed a mod theme. Is the whole collection going that way?

“You’ll see. There’s a transition that happens, that’s what I’m trying to express.”

Tim Howard Management provides high fashion and celebrity services for the world’s leading fashion companies. His agency’s handiwork can be seen on catwalks and red carpets to television and print magazines like Vogue, GQ and Elle.

Recently I sat down with Tim at New York City’s Jane Hotel and quizzed the talent manager about his company and team. The following is how our conversation went down.

Point blank, how did Tim Howard Management start?

Well I working as an agent at one of the bigger photo agencies and things weren’t going so well there.  I was complaining to a friend about it at dinner one night and he said, ‘Why don’t you start your own business? Why do you keep working for other people?’ And I said, ‘I don’t know.’

I quit my other job to think about it.  A friend of mine gave me a desk in his office to see what it would feel like and it just kind of started to unfold with some of the talent I’d previously been working with – suddenly, I had 3 or 4 people and I went and registered my company. We built from there.

The company you run is very much people-oriented, and it seems like there’s so many moving parts. How did your training prepare you for this?

My real training came from my days at Art and Commerce. I worked under Leslie Sweeney; she was one of the owners of Art and Commerce. She was my boss and pretty much taught me everything I know.

She was on maternity leave the day I started the job. I was about 23 years old. So I got there, and there were about 10 artists to look after and she wasn’t really around to show me what to do. So it was a crash course, and to I had sink or swim. So I swam I guess. Though I’m not a good swimmer at all.

Your team provides services for some really big campaigns coming out today. What are some of the challenges of offering these high-level services?

In this economy, the biggest challenge is gambling with rates. You want to respect both the artist and the client. You don’t want to undersell somebody who’s worked very hard to get a rate to a certain point, but you don’t want to outbid yourself either.  In that sense, it’s not much different than selling cars sometimes.

But then it’s about creativity and about relationships -  is this is an interesting project creatively speaking? Could this be a repeat client?  Is this client also a friend? So many factors. Every single booking that comes in requires attention. You have to tailor your decision to each job in order to get the best scenario for your artist. Sometimes you lose.

You have a team of 20 people or so. How do you find the people on your team?

The foremost quality I look for in an artist is personality. Is this somebody I can speak to on a day-to-day basis? Would I want to get a phone call from this person at eight-o-clock in the morning before I’ve had coffee ?

The next thing would just be the work. Is their work something I feel like I can sell? Do they fit in with the rest of the talent that I already represent?

Stepping back from your position, what kind of skills do you think a person needs in order to run a high-level creative agency?

A degree in psychology and a degree in finance.  And an ability to predict the future.

So you’re no longer sitting with your one desk and three artists. What would be your vision for the future of your company?

As agents, we need to develop a newer model on which to represent people – to bring in social media, to try and look more poignantly at opportunities that are waiting for young talent.  Collectively as a team, we have the ability to really influence the beauty industry and the fashion industry. How do we place a value on that?

How do you harness that power in someone who has 20 years of walking into a studio and putting makeup on a model? It doesn’t sound like very much, but that person can look at any face and know exactly what tools to use to enhance it.  Weirdly, that’s a valuable talent.

What do you do when you have time to yourself?

On Saturdays I write a little bit. I do yard work. Any place that I can be where there’s no phone I’m happy. My cell phone doesn’t work in my place upstate. So I can just go out and rake leaves for two hours and no one knows where I am.

With the winter months approaching us, hairdresser Roy Teeluck says the celebs can’t get enough of the bangs. “Bangs are a great way to refresh the face and can make you look younger, sexier, and more sophisticated,” says Teeluck. The great thing about bangs is that there’s tons of different types to best fit the shape of your face. But every so often bangs have the tendency to act up, and Roy has the perfect solution; L’Oreal Professional’s Smooth Essence is his “go-to product to tame unruly bangs.”

Natalie DiStefano, who specializes in makeup, has offered up a trick to looking moisturized with just the perfect amount of foundation. But first things first, you need to apply your eye makeup first! Ever notice those little specks of eye shadow that fall on your face and ruin the foundation? This is the best way to avoid that. Do the shadow first and the foundation after. And always make sure that your face is good and moisturized before you throw that foundation on.

If you’re a blond, be sure to heighten that color in the middle of the winter. Making the hair blonder in these cold dark months is essential, says John Whelan, colorist. The same goes for the red heads, “this is not a hair color for the faint of heart,” he says. As for the brunettes out there, try out some highlights. Nothing too crazy, but soft ones can really do the trick.

Arsi Tavitian, an Aesthetician, gives us some at home remedies to keep our skin looking healthy. Chamomile tea bags, parsley, honey and egg yolks all make the list of concoctions for various at-home creations!

In order to prep for her AMA performance, Katy got some help from Pantene celebrity hairstylist Danilo. The stylist has decided to let us in on a few of his tips and tricks that took Katy Perry from the red carpet to the stage. Since Katy wanted really big hair, he used a step by step regimen in order to achieve the volume. First, he added a mist of Pro-V Heat Protection & Shine Spray to her locks in order to protect them from getting damaged. Next, he used the Fine Hair Root Lifter Spray Gel to get some volume before he blew it out. Finally Danilo layered on Pro-V Touchable Volume Hairspray to keep the volume throughout her performance. As for the overall look, it’s “classic Hollywood with a contemporary twist” he says.

Evidently Hilary Duff forgot to check a mirror before attending the “Lucky Shops” 10^th Anniversary VIP Night at the Metropolitan Pavilion in NYC, because her hair is a hot mess. Then again, at least it got Hilary back on our radar for a quick minute.

Rod Stewart is embracing a spiked hairdo and boy is he proud of it! The 65 year old singer couldn’t be happier that he’s still sporting a full head of hair. “It’s all still mine and it’s all still there,” he says. “Very little gray, I’m very lucky. I guess it’s because I’m in a stress free business, I don’t have to get up and go to work every day.” Sounds like the perfect job to us, if only we could stay this stress free everyday!

Rodney Cutler sure was busy yesterday as he created a number of hairstyles for the Banana Republic Spring/Summer 2011 show. Featuring a “natural, carefree” look, the models adorned a textured pony as they strutted down the runway. Rodney wants to make sure anyone can wear the look that these girls did.

First, you spray hairspray all over towel-dried hair and twist sections of the hair while you rough dry. Next, create a side part and pull your hair into a loose ponytail to secure with a small elastic band the same color of your hair. Finally, slightly pull out a few pieces near the top of your head to give the look some height and spray Redken 08 Wool Shake in pony. Then your ready for the runway or just a casual day out and around town!

Wendy invited a guest onto her show recently and they made a number of nice meals; however, one thing the audience didn’t expect was for Wendy to voluntarily fry her wig. The talk show host set up a poll on her website and asked people what they would want to see her to fry, and she gladly agreed to follow through when the results rung in the wig as the winner. Rihanna was spotted hanging out in New York City after her sold-out Madison Square Garden concert. I’m loving the new hair and the makeup is a perfect contrast to her bright red tresses. I’m thinking the pink lip is a better look with her red hair than the red-on-red. What do you think?

Over at the The 10th Annual Harold Pump Foundation Gala, Laila Ali was in attendance as her father the legendary Muhammad Ali as well as Denzel Washington were honored. I love her bangs! I might have to steal those. Makeup is on point as well. Hot!

Several celebs were spotted at the InStyle magazine Summer Soirée. Actress Sanaa Lathan and her beautiful skin were there. I’m loving her curls and her soft makeup. Hot!

We already know Kim Kardashian was in the building. Her makeup looks great as usual, but what’s going on with the shape of her lips? Cute updo though.

Kissable Couture creator Keisha Whitaker also made an appearance. Aside from it looking like someone went a little bit overboard with the powder under her eyes, she looks great.

Actress Jurnee Smollet stepped out looking all kinds of stunning. Her skin care secrets must be divulged NOW. That will be all.

And rounding out the InStyle event was the lovely Garcelle Beauvais Nilon also rocking jaw-dropping gorgeous skin. I’m about to straight print her pic out and request this hair at a future salon visit. Hot!

Celebs were out for the Lottery Ticket premiere. Anyone going to see this? *crickets*

Just kidding—it looks like it might be cute. Teairra Mari turned in her singing hat for an acting one in this film. Her hair looks great and I love her makeup. The lashes are a bit too spiky, but still cute. Hot!

Naturi Naughton slid through the red carpet and while I like her hair and makeup, I feel like it ages her. Isn’t she like 24?

Someone come hold my hand. Please. No Big Les didn’t. With that frosty AND iridescent lip color. She actually would have had something going here if she 86?d the lips and filled the brows in more. Hmm… Her haircut is cute though.

Angela Simmons was out supposedly supporting her on-again boo Bow Wow. She looks good—I’d add a little loose powder to blot the shine down a bit, but still Hot!

And last but not least, Malika Haqq’s cute self was at the SWAGG Polo Challenge. Her hair looks super cute and what I can see of her makeup looks pretty. Hot!

My normal routine when I visit Whole Foods is to start in the beauty section first. I know that it takes a while for me to peruse the health and beauty section therefore there isn't a need to let my Greek yogurt sit in the basket.  I have been passing the Jane Carter Solution products for years.  Seriously for years.  I kept walking past the brand and kept telling myself that I will purchase it one day.  Well that day was a few days ago.  I decided to go with the Jane Carter Solution Revitalizing Leave-In Conditioner.  This is a great lightweight conditioner that smells divine, leaves my hair baby soft, and a little goes a long way.  It's so good that I've poured it in to travel size containers so I'm never without it.

My friend and former classmate Nigeria asked me to do a few posts on natural hair care, I was supposed to do this post a little ago, but I am now getting to it (sorry). Although my hair is not natural (I considered going through the transition) I did my research and compiled a list of basics and essentials for women with natural (chemical free) hair styles.

Essentials

• Sulfate free shampoo
• Silicone free instant and deep conditioner
• Daily moisturizer or grease with no mineral oil or petrolatum
• Daily leave in conditioner
• Good natural oils
• Silicone based heat protectants.

Reading the ingredients listed for products at the local beauty supply store or drugstore and watching product reviews from other women will help determine which products have helpful ingredients as opposed to harmful.

Basics

• Plastic wide tooth comb
• Denman brush or boar bristle brush (some would advise no brushes of any kind)
• Hair clips that are hair stress free
• Metal free elastic bands
• Satin or silk scarf, pillow cover, or bonnet

Luckily for me, there are clip-on bangs! I had previously seen them for a surprisingly expensive $50 or more, but Ken Paves has some in his hairdo collection that are only $24! So I decided I would try them out. For those who can’t remember, this is what I usually look like:
But, with the magic of hairdo, I got to immediately look like this:
It’s a miracle!! The bangs have little clips to hold them in place, and even have long sides to help blend them seamlessly into your hair.You can even pull your hair back without it be too obvious:There are some negatives though. The top isn’t very easily to blend into your hair. If you’re short like me, some people may see this:
There are nine different color but if you have highlights like me, it’s even more difficult to blend. I’m wearing Midnight Brown in case you were curious! The bangs are also a touch shiny, I ended up using some brown Shampowder to dull it down a bit.

But really most people would never notice these small details, so if you want to switch up your look for fun I HIGHLY recommend! These are synthetic, he does have human hair bangs as well, but they’re currently a pricey $192 (on sale!). I need to find a wigmaker to turn some of my old hair into custom bangs, that would be awesome!

Kristen Stewart, Rihanna, Janet Jackson, and Hayden Panettiere, are some of the most noted individuals to receive a shorter cut. From edgy colors to softer side bangs, these celebs all took a pretty bold plunge. To learn more about the short hair phenomenon I talked a bit with Latrice Strader, stylist and owner of Destiny De’ve hair salon and spa. Latrice, known for delivering vibrant colors and the latest styles, weighed in on summer’s newest trend:

Some girls avoid cutting their hair too short because they feel they aren’t edgy enough to pull it off. Do you think most girls can pull off a short hair do?

I believe there is a short style for every shaped face. Some face shapes allow you to go shorter than others. When considering a short cut you should consider the shape of your face, head, your hair texture and personality.

Out of Kristen, Rhianna, Hayden, and Janet, whose summer hairstyle do you like the best?

Kristen is my favorite.  I love fun styles and her haircut is very choppy and playful.  It is also the most flexible cut.

What’s the most popular hairstyle you’ve seen this season?

Layered bobs are frequently requested in my salon in addition to shaved sides similar to Rhianna’s latest style.  Long loose wave styles similar to what Sarah Jessica Parker and Kim Kardashian wear are also very popular.

Have a lot of girls walked into your salon, Destiny De’ve, asking for a shorter hair cut for the summer?

We get tons of requests for shorter hair cuts in the summer months as well as throughout the year. My salons, Destiny De’Ve, is located close to a popular college and surrounded by young urban and trendy individuals. Most requests are for short pixie cuts, shave sides, generally fun and creative looks.  Most of our clients are inspired by celebrities when it comes to short hair styles like Rhianna, Victoria Beckham, Halle Berry and Kelis.  These are the top four celebrity style requests I receive year round.

What do you think is the biggest “hair don’t”, a style that most people are better off without?

A huge “hair don’t” in my book is greasy hair.  Hair should have body and movement. Too much oil weighs the hair down causing it to stick to your face. Hair lack luster serums and gloss should be used to avoid this problem.  When hair is oily and greasy, it’s time to shampoo and re-style your hair.

Get out those fine tooth combs because the boutffant is making a comback! Forget flat and sleek locks, the new look for fall is a huge teased volumious bun. Think Hairspray, Tracy Turnblatt, and hair in the 60s.
