Or semi permanently in the case of all those that are decidedly not batshit crazy vampiromaniacs. Like the fine fanged ladies ahead.

It's a bird! It's a plane! No, it's a 12 ft tall, purple Heidi Klum as her most adventurous costume to date, a supermodel superhero. Fighting crimes against fashion with her silver-skinned sidekick, the Man of Seal.

2. Diva, death and destruction. As Kali, Hindu goddess of death and destruction, Heidi went deviously over the top and was more fierce than she's ever been during the who-cares-how-many-seasons of PJ Runway. And note the stiletto. Girl was at WORK.

3. And the horse she rode in on. Any costume that involves a live animal gets immediate snaps. Throw in an historical reference, a bejeweled bodysuit and a floor-length blonde wig and you’ve got Heidi as Lady Godiva in 2001. The costume is nearly perfect, however, I would have preferred if she had rode in on Seal (similarly attired as the horse, natch).

4. There’ll be a whole lot of suckin’ goin’ on. Heidi bared her fangs in 2005 as a vampiress, trading in her angel wings for gothic bat wings. Rumor has it, Heidi, always the method actress, drained Nina Garcia‘s blood before appearing on the red carpet. Nina, being a creature of the night herself, took a quick nap in her sarcophagus and was ready for filming the next day.

5. Pussy never looked so good. Now everyone and their slutty mother has gone as a feline, but not everyone is a supermodel. Heidi slipped into a slinky catsuit in 2007 and I’m sure Seal had to keep his eye out for anyone trying to chase that tail.

I really love that these costumes are perfect for both normal girls on Halloween and strippers on a daily basis.

If you can tell, we are big Halloween people – as evidenced by our Snooki costume excitement – and cannot contain our glee over Simon Doonan’s costume collection for Target. The line, which hit online 5 days early, features quirky interpretations – ie. Spaghetti and Meatballs – a welcome break from the onslaught of slutty kittens and nurses that dominate the holiday.

But in typical Doonan fashion, he managed to slip a few pop culture references in there, too. “I thought of The Situation and those boys from ‘Jersey Shore’ when I did the T-shirt for the Pumpkin Punk Rocker costume.” Check out the line for yourself here:

The celebrities are starting to have their Halloween parties — I’m sure we’ll be seeing a lot of lame costumes over the next week, but I think Gwen Stefani could almost pull off her sunny-side-up egg  as a regular dress.

Although I’ve been over this for quite some time, the approaching Halloween festivities have conjured sour feelings towards this trend. “Halloween is the one night a year when girls can dress like a total slut and no other girls can say anything about it.” Even though Mean Girls is a beacon of light and truth, I have to disagree with this statement. I can say something about it. If I see one more sexy cop, slutty firefighter or naughty nurse this year, I am going to flip out and start throwing cold cuts at the wearer. The point of Halloween is to try your very hardest to dress exactly like someone or something else. I know it’s an easy way out for amateurs, but most often, the skanktastic garb doesn’t make sense. I have never seen a bumblebee showing her hoo-ha to everyone in the hive. But if dressing to show skin is what you really desire, allow me to make some suggestions on which costumes would realistically look fab showing a little more leg.

Burlesque dancer: Becoming very hip again on the nightlife circuit, this costume is fun and sexy. Wear some high-class lingerie, fishnets and carry a cane. But make sure you are going to an indoor party; this one could get chilly.

Cave woman: Real ancient cave dwellers wore skimpy buckskins, animal bones and no shoes. Get a tetanus shot prior to trick or treating and watch out for nails.

Baby: The ultimate leg-baring character, this costume requires a diaper, bib and binky. Fill a bottle with cocktail of choice and you’re good to go.
