New Year’s Eve is the Super Bowl of drinking. Drunker than Halloween, Christmas and St. Patrick’s Day, New Year’s gives you carte blanche to get apocalyptically trashed because once that ball drops, who knows what’s gonna happen. Well, there is at least one thing that is for certain and that’s a colossal hangover. So before you dip your entire body into a soothing bath of vodka and drag yourself out of the gutter five days later, take into consideration these ten tips for avoiding and curing the hangover that will set the tone for all hangovers in 2012.

Woke up drunk? Just keep riding that train till you can't remember what sober even feels like.

There's nothing I crave more on the morning after than some greasy, MSG-rich Chinese food to absorb the booze and distract me from how drunk I am by pointing out how fat I am. And General Tso has always been my favorite general.

Hydrate! Hydrate! Hydrate! If you do anything, keep yourself hydrated and replenish those sassy electrolytes.

For that splitting headache, pop a pill or two, but fair warning: aspirin can thin out your blood, ibuprofen can cause stomach bleeding and acetaminophen can cause damage to your liver -- and since alcohol does all of that anyway (and is a lot more fun) you might as well refer to tip #1.

A more natural method to ease a headache is tiger balm rubbed on the back of your neck and temples. Note, not to be confused with Charlie Sheen's tiger blood, which I'm assuming is rubbed somewhere further south.

As a preventative measure, eat at least before and maybe after you drink. Your odds of getting a hangover can be dramatically decreased, plus you'll have something in your stomach to throw up later.

If you're feeling exotic and/or ambitious in your hungover stupor, a bath infused with wasabi or mustard increases your blood circulation and detoxifies the drunk out of you.

Sure you may want to perk up after obliterating whatever brain cells you had left, but caffeine will only dehydrate you more and probably make you feel a little nauseous in the process.

A little B6, some B12 -- perhaps some B52's -- and Vitamin C do wonders.

A different kind of shot can help you avoid a hangover all together. A natural detoxifier, a glass of wheatgrass after drinking and then again when you wake up may taste awful but the ends definitely justify the means.

Rolling in on a gurney, Heidi Klum came dressed to kill…or rather, dressed as someone already dead for her Halloween party at Tao Las Vegas over the weekend.

Never one to rest on her creepy laurels, Klum’s “Visible Woman” costume took hours to complete and was partially painted onto her body. And tonight, for her New York Halloween party, she’s reportedly going as an ape and if we know Heidi at all — which we don’t — she’ll probably come in swinging from a tree and hurling feces at her arriving guests. Because on Halloween it’s most important to stay in character.

Bar none, the easiest costume on the planet is this. Just dress as yourself, and when friends and strangers inquire about your night's identity, make up a first and middle name and use your last. Done.

Okay, your identical twin is super lazy, even by the most sluggish standards, so let your inner raging bitch out. Go for blacks, sheers, and deep rouge velvet. String out the hair, chalk on the eyeliner and give us a dark snarled pout. Anything from the Australian label

Ouch, girl. You've been caught on the list of the less than. You've mixed your plaid, floral, tiger print and cheetah and it is not werqing. At least US Weekly has the decency to block your identity. Block yours with these

Open Bar Etiquette

With Halloween weekend fast-approaching, you will no doubt be getting seven kinds of shitfaced at various parties, bars, clubs and what have you. Everyone wants to imbibe freely and some places allow you to do just that. But if you find yourself in this proverbial land of milk and honey — where the milk and honey are actually vodka and tequila — it’s important to adhere to certain protocols.

1. Don’t crowd the fucking bar. My biggest pet peeve in life is someone chit-chatting their boring life away at the bar while a crowd of people clamor and jockey for a spot around them. Take the flirting to the men’s urinal where it belongs and step aside for your fellow drunk. It’s called “courtesy” and “not being a douchebag.”

2. Tip your bartender. Aside from securing good karma, a well-tipped bartender is far more likely to see you when you’re flopping up to secure your next drink.

3. Double fist your way through. An open bar is not a marathon, it’s a sprint. Ordering two drinks allows you to get as wasties as possible as quickly as possible and cuts back on the amount of time you’ll have to stand in line. Also, you’ll look pretty badass.

4. Last call calls for shots. Most open bars are only one or two hours — a half an hour is an insult and anything over two hours is pure magic — so when last call inevitably rolls around, it’s time to roll up your sleeves and get to work. Tequila shots and Jäger bombs guarantee a superstar finish. Or at least an evening groping your way through a K hole.

Happy drinking this Halloween, kids! And remember, it’s all fun and games till someone ends up in rehab. Someone I call a quitter.

How to Tie a Turban in a Minute

The abundance of both traditional and stylized turbans in existence have fallen into fashion as of late, as you may be aware. I’ve been wrapping my cashmere scarf ’round my head all fall and winter long like this. Based originally out of necessity to shelter my ears from the cold, and the terrible noise I was subjected to at Death By Audio in Williamsburg on Halloween the night of my turban epiphany, I grew to adore its versatility and insta-chic effect. Now with Spring so close, I’m adapting my personal turban-tying method to lighter materials: silk, chiffon and the traditional cotton. Watch my instructional video for a way to turn just about any scarf into a fabulous turban. Then check the authentic Indian, African and other international lessons on how to master the real shebang.

FashionIndie Technique – Quite possibly the simplest way to tie a chic turban:

Wrapping your head from the back also allows you to contain your hair entirely within the turban. Tie or pin back a bun ever so loosely so it’s easy to flatten, and let the fabric cup the hair.

Indian Sikh (male) - the most basic traditionally male method:

Though this is a masculine turban, it can also look fabulous on a woman. The trick seems to be wrapping diagonally to perfect that starburst in the center front.

Indian Sikh (female) – seemingly the most time and fabric intensive feminine method:

White turbans like this often note a higher rank in society. Perhaps that’s why they’ve made it so particularly difficult to achieve.

Indian Rajasthani – less complicated, more colorful method:

The crazy part of it all is that the Fashion Indie/Lookbooks team were partying it up at LAVO (same venue as Klum’s party) on Friday night. I think the closest I came to being there was following awesome designer Kerin Rose on Twitter. Guests included Kim Kardashian, Rebecca Minkoff, and Christian Siriano.

For a second, I was thinking how adorable that little munchkin would be in a giant, styrofoam pickle — falling over and rolling through traffic, screaming the entire way, probably throwing up then doing shots with JWOWW — but, alas, my dreams were shattered. A pickle-sequined green dress with matching shoes? That’s a pot of gold short of being leprechaun.

Heidi Klum is a girl who loves her some Halloween. Rather than go the de rigueur sexy skank route, La Klum takes her All Hallows Eve seriously. Perhaps too seriously. But then again, if I had 53 kids, I’d be obsessed with the holiday too. Below, let’s take a walk down Memory’s ghoulish lane as we explore Heidi’s best costumes over the years.

It's a bird! It's a plane! No, it's a 12 ft tall, purple Heidi Klum as her most adventurous costume to date, a supermodel superhero. Fighting crimes against fashion with her silver-skinned sidekick, the Man of Seal.

2. Diva, death and destruction. As Kali, Hindu goddess of death and destruction, Heidi went deviously over the top and was more fierce than she's ever been during the who-cares-how-many-seasons of PJ Runway. And note the stiletto. Girl was at WORK.

3. And the horse she rode in on. Any costume that involves a live animal gets immediate snaps. Throw in an historical reference, a bejeweled bodysuit and a floor-length blonde wig and you’ve got Heidi as Lady Godiva in 2001. The costume is nearly perfect, however, I would have preferred if she had rode in on Seal (similarly attired as the horse, natch).

4. There’ll be a whole lot of suckin’ goin’ on. Heidi bared her fangs in 2005 as a vampiress, trading in her angel wings for gothic bat wings. Rumor has it, Heidi, always the method actress, drained Nina Garcia‘s blood before appearing on the red carpet. Nina, being a creature of the night herself, took a quick nap in her sarcophagus and was ready for filming the next day.

5. Pussy never looked so good. Now everyone and their slutty mother has gone as a feline, but not everyone is a supermodel. Heidi slipped into a slinky catsuit in 2007 and I’m sure Seal had to keep his eye out for anyone trying to chase that tail.

Barneys New York creative director Simon Doonan will design “sophisticated” Halloween costumes for Target. Doonan's birthday coincidentally falls on Halloween so it's a huge celebration for him. He intends to put the chicness back into Halloween with fun costumes. According to WWD:

“People on reality TV get to be exhibitionists,” Doonan said. “I thought of The Situation and those boys from ‘Jersey Shore’ when I did the T-shirt for the Pumpkin Punk Rocker costume.”

His and Hers costumes — Meatballs for him and Spaghetti for her — feature red-and-white plaid tablecloth fabric, with yarn noodles cascading from the shoulders of the woman’s tunic. A pillbox hat topped with a heaping helping of pasta and meatballs completes the look. There’s a matching costume for dogs replete with a hat that says “Ciao! Chow!” Kids costumes are $25; adults, $30, and dogs, $9.99.

The collection launches in Target stores on Sept. 12 and on target.com on Aug. 22.

So as I told you all 10 000 times via blog posts and twitter, I attended the Lady Gaga ‘Monster Ball’ tour last night. And as you can guess, it was freaking fantastic. We first went out for dinner at east Side Mario’s because virtually every restaurant on front Street was filled with World Cup viewers, and some very, very disappointed Netherlands fans (the second we walked into the restaurant, two guys in orange t-shirts came out of the restaurant sobbing). But congratulations to Spain! We headed down to get in line around 7 pm and were literally swarmed by GaGa fans. Some costumes were unrecognizable and much more relative to Madonna’s ‘Material Girl’ than to GaGa (does anyone else recall Gaga having a perm, strands of pearls and a lace glove? Because I don’t!). Some costumes were just plain wrong (shorts that should not have even been classified as shorts; 50 year old women in tight leather ensembles with platform boots taller than I am and blonde wigs that were probably used for their daughters’ Halloween costumes several years ago). However, some efforts proved fruitful! Their was this one girl who was dolled up as one of Gaga’s costumes from telephone with diet coke cans used as hair rollers, fish nets, a studded biker jacket and appropriately high platform boots! I also spotted several people wearing these Jeremy Scott for Linda Farrow sunglasses, which I was very jealous of! Personally, I didn’t dress up, though, I thoroughly enjoyed the people watching!

The band Semi-Precious Weapons opened for GaGa. Musically, they were pretty brutal. Though, the lead singer was pretty entertaining and fabulous (he’s also been friends with GaGa since 2006). he writes songs with humorous titles such as, “I Can’t Pay My Rent, But I’m Fucking Gorgeous”. The lead singer even stopped a song to get naked and remove his fish nets and stiletto boots (yes, I just said that) to put on some Wolford floral tights and silver sequined stilettos. Needless to say, he was hilarious. Luckily, they only played for about twenty minutes so their performance ceased before they began to annoy me.

During the set change, we noticed a flock of people sprint over to the fenced off area where the sound and lights crew were seated. Thinking Gaga was there, we stood up to take a look. After a few minutes of peering, we noticed that it was Elton John! Elton, who played in Hamilton (a city a few minutes from Toronto) last night, came out to support his friend, Lady GaGa! I thought that was super sweet. It also gave the boys who were unwillingly dragged to the show something to remember!

During set changes and prior to GaGa’s debut, a set of really artsy and unique videos (starring GaGa, naturally) played on the main screen with instrumentals from “Dance in the Dark” in the background.

Gaga opened with the song ‘Dance in the Dark’ and closed with ‘Paparazzi’, using ‘Bad Romance’ as an encore. The show effects were incredible, as were the set. She set statues of angels on fire, played a piano built into the hood of a car and a burning piano, went into a virtual “cyclone”, rode an on-set subway for her “Love Game” performance, donned the very controversial nun outfit that she wore in her ‘Alejandro’ video, bathed in a fountain of fake blood and many, many more crazy shenanigans!

(Please note that my friend, Sonia took the majority of these photos! She was closer to GaGa than I was, so the photos I took were pretty brutal!)

Lady Gaga performed this morning, July 9, on the Today show at Rockefeller Center in New York to a crowd of 18,000 screaming fans who started lining up last night, but of course, we were more concerned with what she was wearing. Thanks to fan Katemax, we’ve got a close-up pic of Gaga before the concert (above). Surprisingly, the looks were rather tame for Gaga–her outfits actually included blazers. Here, we found two that are similar. Yep, for once, we’re telling you it’s kind of okay to dress like Gaga:

This Bebe blazer ($168) might be a departure from your typical work blazers, but the cool chain detail on the shoulder is great for going out on the weekends. Wear ‘em with shorts and heels for a dramatic look, or pair with skinny black jeans.

Or go for the tuxedo jacket Gaga wore later on with this Loeffler Randall black silk shawl collar blazer ($330). No need to wear just a bra with it, but feel free to pair with a silk camisole for a similar look.
