Suzannah: Bouquets of flowers adorn this dress like the winning racehorse.  H&M provides a floppy sunhat for just $6.99.

Coast Stores: Subtle pink stripes won’t distract any horses, but the Luxury Diva in you will hypnotize with concentric black and white circles on the brim.

Nomad: Vintage inspired, fair trade, and lacy, this dipped ombré, this dress lives like a southern lady. Lauren by Ralph Lauren builds a straw hat ready for the race.

Victoria Beckham: Elegant white with strapless detail is Kentucky Derby worthy. Missoni: These wild colors are a bit bold for the derby, but paired with white, it rises to its own potential. (personal favorite)

Nina Ricci: Tiered and muted pastel, this dress is a demure yet playful choice. Eugenia Kim: The honey color adds dimension to an overtaking structure. The black fabric gives stability and punch.

Priestley’s Vintage: The hidden tree pattern flows along this finely shaped dress. Kaliko: The dress deserves a fascinator. This one flourishes with height.

The inspiration comes from both the royal men at the men and the Fall 2011 collection of the Alexander McQueen label.

This look is not that hard to achieve since military is a trend that is always somehow weaved into menswear. (Everyone love a man in uniform right?) As far as the outfit it is most a few key piece and perhaps a few props just to add a little pomp and circumstance.

Military styled jackets are usually in every designer’s mens coats but this Balmain double-breasted blazer is a great one and even come with its own emblem attached.A simple shoe is best when dealing with high-class affairs and Gucci does it right with this classic lace up.

Feel free to be a little costume-y when it comes down to accessories. Royalty has no problem wearing their traditional garments out and about even though to many they look a bit ridiculous. This is why you can buy a chauffeur’s hat and act like it was handed down to you for generation. And for the watch bling it’s all about Glam Rock.

Now, Kate Middleton is just at the beginning of her experimental hat phase; she has a lifetime of royalty to further explore. She’s making great headway (pardon the pun), but she’s got a tremendous deal to live up to. There must be nothing quite like having to live in the shadows of Princess Diana and Queen Elizabeth.

1. Spying on your man in church. You never know when pulling a Carrie Bradshaw and spying on your own Mister Big is going to take you into God’s house. Make sure you’re prepared with wrist gloves and a Sunday hat that will knock his mother off her pew. 2. Cruising on a doomed ship. Vacationers on the Titanic didn’t know about their impending fate, so they were all riding the fabulous high horse. But you don’t need to choose a sinking ship to look as remarkable as they because these fine boating hats will do just fine. 4. At the doctor’s office. If anyone knows how to seduce, it’s Sophia Loren, especially when she is after a man playing hard to get. 5. Boozing. Hats, headbands, it’s all the same in casinos and speakeasies. Breaking boundaries with nonpareil style, flappers knew how to look fantastic while drinking the Devil’s elixir. Though not quite hats, these hairpieces will get you the look and the swagger. 6. Mourning the loss of ruined winter shoes. It happens to us every year in the land of snow, sleet and freezing rain. We sacrifice a pair of shoes to keep our feet dry and warm. Although tragic, you can mourn your favorite defunct footwear in style by channeling superstar mob wives like Carmela Soprano, Sandra Corleone and Rosalie Aprile. Black and dramatic is the way to go with styles like these: Misaharada Valeska Hat, Comme des Garçons Bow Detail Hat and Lanvin Swarovski Crystal Pin-Embellished Straw Hat.

7. Frolicking and/or walking on water. Wouldn’t we all love to live in Mary Poppins’ wonderful world of animated fantasy? The answer is obviously yes. And although this may not be possible in a city as grimy as New York, you can still frolic about, wherever you are, in a bonnet of fantastic allure. This’ll be good for the world’s bear population, for sure, and if nobody can tell the difference, who cares?  That being said, I hope the spokesman for PETA gets eaten.  By a bear.
