Celebrating its 10^th birthday this year, the festivities at Art Basel Miami almost outshined the actual artwork. With 18 other local art fairs simultaneously going on around town, over 260 galleries showing the works of over 2000 artists and 50,000 creative enthusiasts from around the world, South Beach and downtown Miami’s Design District were the country’s creative mecca this first week of December. Our week was jam packed, with back to back versions of “the most fun party ever”, sandwiched between “the best art exhibit ever” Here’s a rundown of our favorite events:

Havaianas x Ace Hotel Launch Perfect Summer Flip-Flops

Ace Hotel has been on a major roll with their line of collaborations. First Butt Magazine, then Opening Ceremony and now the destination for stylish travelers everywhere has partnered with Havaianas to create the perfect summer flip-flops.

The Limited Edition footwear will be available in Ace Hotel Mini-bars and can be purchased for $22. You can also grab a pair online at www.us.havaianas.com.The flips are black & white and feature the hotels signature coyote mascot pin.

Havaianas Are Branching Out Into Footwear

Brazilian flip flop brand Havaianas will add sneakers and espadrilles to their line of footwear, selling for around $55 each pair.

This is the first time Havaianas is allowing consumers to create their sandal designs and the first first foray into the accessories category for Threadless.com. The two are collaborating to launch the website’s first ever footwear challenge. Six designs will be chosen, $10,000 in awards will handed out and the sandals will be manufactured by Havaianas and sold in limited edition on www.havaianasus.com this July.

Alek Wek and Naomi Campbell’s design

Top models and designers (including Manolo Blahnik) are teaming up with Havaianas to create original designs which will be auctioned off between July 15 and 26 for charity, CLIC Sargent, a young cancer patient organization. See them on display in Selfridge’s Oxford Street window and bid on their website.
