Teacher’s Pet: Burberry the Brand with the Highest Digital IQ

New York University’s Luxury Lab (L2) ranked the digital IQs of 49 fashion brands based on four criteria: web site, digital marketing, social media and mobile platforms. Brands were then classified into one of five categories: Genius, Gifted, Average, Challenged, or Feeble. Class is in session and as usual Burberry is the only one who did their homework.

After Hugo Boss recently apologized for its namesake founder’s Nazi past, we’ve realized that designers were heiling Hitler left and right all up and through the 20th century. So in light of this —  and of the coming Jewish holiday of Rosh Hashana (mazel!) — we’re highlighting the biggest fascists in fashion history as part of our ongoing Quel Scandale! feature. First up, Christian Dior got down and Nazi decades before John Galliano drunkenly slurred his way right out of a job.

As is more or less common knowledge now, between smoking opium and having bisexual affairs, Gabrielle “Coco” Chanel found time to heil Hitler. But what was the appeal?  I mean, the Nazis weren’t the funnest people to be around and those black and brown uniforms were far from flattering. And you know who you can thank for that? Hugo Boss.
