6119 Ilana Sunderland Fall 2009
Edited by Kirby Marzec
Ilana Sunderland would make a phenomenal architect. With her aesthetic focusing on structure, hard edges and straight lines, Sunderland, a mere second season designer, certainly gives Herve Leger a run for his money. Despite my applause for her structural symmetry and complexity, her color choice failed to impress. In combination with the strict structure, colors like espresso, midnight, onyx and ruby gave the garments a little over-the-hill/ funeral vibe. Such a shame…Sunderland’s spring color choice was amazing! Constructed for the tall and thin ladies of the world, 6119 isn’t exactly ready to wear. But let me tell you, if I were a boy, I’d be all over that wool, crepe hooded, single-breasted suit! Better yet, Sunderland should make suits for the ladies!
