Balenciaga to Enter the Online Future This Week

Although Balenciaga is ahead of the game when it comes to the art of fashion design, the luxury brand’s website dates back to the Paleolithic period. But that all changes this week when the French fashion house launches its brand new e-commerce website that boasts light text and heavy imagery.

“It’s important to be able to show things in movement,” Balenciaga creavtive director Nicolas Ghesquière said. “It’s almost like a daily magazine now: It has to be really alive. Like everyone, we want to have a good amount of traffic.”

And a good amount traffic they shall receive with features like short films produced by famous photographers, a heritage section with vintage photos of starlets such as Marlene Dietrich and Ingrid Bergman wearing the brand and a full-fledged e-commerce section shipping to France, the U.K. and United States.

The only way I will watch a romantic movie is if it was made before 1960. Anything after that is horribly corny and unrealistic. That’s why Casablanca is at the top of my favorite film list. Not only is the story brilliant, but the fashion is phenomenal. Ingrid Bergman is flawless in her classic skirt suits, luxurious hats and majestic gowns. This is truly a moment of style; people just don’t dress up enough anymore.
