Lenny Kravitz is Looking for More Hunger Game Stylists. Are You Game?

If you, too, gobbled up the Hunger Games, and also consider yourself a very hungry stylist (what stylist isn’t starving?), you’ve got to get yourself into this competition. Much like battling to the death on live television, the official blog of The Hunger Games movie, Capitol Couture, is holding a competition on foot, and they’re asking volunteer tributes to design shoes via sketches/photos/paintings/3D renderings/any medium of your choice. Meanwhile, the blog is reporting on some seriously stunning designers, like RodarteMalgorzata Dudek, Iris Van Herpen, and other futuristic indies.

Iris Van Herpen: Haute Couture Requires Blueprints

As we enter this month of Art and Architecture at FashionIndie, we must discuss further a young designer who has elevated the notion of couture. Iris van Herpen creates a synergy between the finest handiwork and the technologically advanced. For this collection shown in Paris as part of Haute Couture fashion week, Capriole, she worked with architect Isaie Bloch and MGX to create 3D prints which were then translated into textiles. What resulted is function that follows the most stunning form from which all else stems.

She also happened to intern with Alexander McQueen. Behold.

Van Herpen explains her aesthetic ambition regarding her latest collection, named Refinery Smoke:

“The smoke looks like it is alive…Will there be a time when clothing is unnecessary and we’re able to ‘wear’ something as intangible as smoke? I believe in an unlimited, barrier-breaking future when it comes to fashion and therefore strive to find the borders of the seemingly impossible.”

Of all those shown at this years Amsterdam fashion week, one collection no one will soon forget was that of , with it’s textured and sculpted pieces and dramatic hair and makeup. Made from materials like leather, iron, brass, chains and ‘hair’, the clothing, though not exactly wearable (where do you wear a black leather minidress with large gold brass wings?), was stunning and unlike anything else.

More art then fashion, models walked down the runway in black, navy, white, gold and steel creating a serious, underground club feel. My favorite look was a butterfly dress with silver chains and patchwork leggings, that although not very functional, provided in beauty what it lacked in coverage.
