Bey and the Biebs will compete in that category with the legit luxe label lineup of Bottega Veneta, Tom Ford‘s “Violet Blonde“ and Prada‘s “Candy Eau de Parfum Spray.”

The finalists in the Luxe Men category are “Armani Code Sport,” “Gucci Guilty Pour Homme,” “John Varvatos USA,” “L’Homme Libre” by Yves Saint Laurent and my personal fragrance fave, “Un Jadrin Sur le Toit” by Hermès.

Nominees in the Media Campaign – Women category include Marc Jacobs “Daisy” — but surprisingly not the controversial “Oh Lola!” — “Burberry Body,” Chanel‘s “Coco Mademoiselle,” Dior‘s “J’adore” and interestingly, if that’s the word, “Wonderstruck Taylor Swift.”

Thierry Mugler‘s “A*Men” campaign featuring amputee track star Oscar Pistorius will compete against “Armani Code Sport,” “Gucci Guilty Pour Homme,” “CK One Shock for Him” and “Eau de Lacoste L.12.12″ for Media Campaign – Men.

Nominees joining last year’s inductee, Elizabeth Taylor‘s “White Diamonds,” in the Fragrance Hall of Fame, include Elizabeth Arden‘s “Red Door” and Hermès’ “24 Faubourg” in the women’s category and “Acqua di Gio,” “A*Men” and Issey Miyake‘s ”L’Eau d’Issey Pour Homme” in the men’s.

Winners will be announced at the always glitzy Fifi awards presentation on May 21 at Alice Tulley Hall. [WWD]

The Olympic Torch, designed by the team of Edward Barber and Jay Osgerby, is made of aluminum with 8,000 perforated holes representing each of its carriers as it makes its way to London for the July 27 opening ceremony.

“Nothing is harder to get right* than designing for the Olympics,” said Design Museum director Deyan Sudjic. “The lightness and simplicity of Barber Osgerby’s Olympic Torch does just that.”

There were a total of 89 nominees in seven categories: Architecture, Digital, Fashion, Furniture, Graphics, Product and Transport.

The winner of the Fashion category was Issey Miyake‘s origami-inspired 132 5 Eco-Fashion collection, beating out these top contenders:

That Issey Miyake collection is pretty badass — you should really check out that video link, or if you have ADD like I do, this much shorter one — so I can understand how Kate’s gown and even Savage Beauty could pale in comparison. I don’t accept it, but I understand it.

Grace Jones (May 19, 1948) Part supermodel, part mental patient, part disco/New Wave/dancehall queen, Grace Jones is an enigma, wrapped in a question, wrapped in a kimono. Her distinctive style and personality are a constant source of inspiration, from musicians like Rihanna and Lady Gaga to magazine editorials, who find her a favorite subject in particular. And is it any wonder? That type of crazy comes along but once in an androgynous moon.

Beverly Johnson (Oct. 13, 1952) Bev Johnson’s name will go down in history as the first black woman on the cover of U.S. Vogue. The 1974 cover was groundbreaking as Vogue has and continues to be and probably will always be the definitive fashion bible. Johnson’s entree into the big leagues was a watershed moment for models of all diversities. Bev was only 22, so when you peak that early I guess the only way you can go is Def Jam’s How to Be a Player.

Janice Dickinson (Feb. 15, 1955) Our second Top Model judge (but first, in terms of service rendered), Janice Dickinson is all but unrecognizable today after the full facial transplant she’s had done over the years. But at her peak in the 70s, she was darkly exotic and really the definition of drop-dead gorgeous — looking at her older pictures I literally want to kill myself. In 1979, she claimed she coined the term “supermodel” (though the credit is often given to Andy Warhol a decade earlier) when her manager told her that she shouldn’t work so hard because she wasn’t Superman. Janice’s response: ”I am not Superman. I am a supermodel.” And then she threw a drink in his face and preceded to make out with him. Classic Dickinson.

Iman (July 25, 1955) With her long, graceful neck and statuesque beauty, Iman looks like she was actually plucked out of a Somalian village and thrown on a runway, but in reality she was discovered by photog Peter Beard while she was studying political science in Nairobi. Upon coming to New York in 1975, however, she happily played along with the myth that Beard had discovered her as “a teen tribeswoman tending 500 cattle and sheep in a Kenyan game preserve.” What followed is one of the greatest careers in modern fashion history: a muse for Yves Saint Laurent, Issey Miyake and Calvin Klein, an entrepreneur and the one woman (or man) to tame David Bowie.

Jerry Hall (July 2, 1956) After dropping some acid at a party, Jerry Hall was convinced she could make it as a model. Hailing from Texas, she was the All-American girl of the 70s, who just happened to do some very naughty things with some notable Europeans; chief among them Mick Jagger, from whose superstar loins was spawned their pillow-lipped progeny, supermodel-on-the-rise, Georgia May Jagger. It’s clear that in this case, she definitely gets it from her mama.

Cathy Horyn has been quite vocal about her dislike of designer Alexander Wang. She recently said this about his collection: “the collection downloaded the ideas of designers like Ann Demeulemeester and Issey Miyake — naturally, without their sense of energy and intuition.”

Bonjour from Paris darlings. Ms. Fab here is taking a needed vacation overseas. I only have 36 hours here and have decided to spend it surrounded by beautiful clothes. The method easiest on your wallet is the Histoire Ideale de la Mode Contemporaines (History of contemporary fashion) exhibit at the Museum Les Arts Decoratifs.
The exhibit has many of the top Paris-based designers with their most famous, notable pieces of the 1970′s and 1980′s. Drool over iconic sculpted cone bustier dresses of Jean-Paul Gaultier, sculpted Issey Miyake bodices, architecturally sculpted shoulders from Thierry Muglier and Claude Montana. Dramatically lit, the walls have alsp projected fashion shows of that era so you can see how the pieces were originally presented.
For me, it was seeing the looks up close that inspired me to join fashion in my childhood. For the new guard of designers, it is a showcase of how the masters did it (and do it still!)

Hey boys and girls, it’s Rachel here from Q Models reporting here from Poland. I know most of you probably associate Poland with Greenpoint (if you live in Brooklyn anyway) and Pierogis. But I am actually here to scout for some fresh new faces for our men and women’s boards. Yep that’s right Poland has some serious hotties. In fact Q’s own Izabella Miko (of Coyote Ugly fame, pictured above) is from Poland.

Nonetheless, at first I was a little worried at first when I boarded the plane for Warsaw. In my Anna Sui minidress, thigh black suede high boots, and Tano handbag, I was the most glamorous traveler on the plane. If I were flying to Paris, that same outfit would have probably rendered me so last season.

But after conducting a little reconnaissance on the web, I realized I have nothing to fear. Between Warsaw, Poznan, and Krakow, I’m visiting nineteen agencies in five days. Some of the agencies’ models have gone on to shoot Gucci, Issey Miyake, French Vogue, Harper’s Bazaar, Numero Homme, and Dazed and Confused to name a few. Hot!

So after I shoot the breeze with the local agents, I’ll start meeting their models one at a time. I’m looking for the models to be tall, in shape, and photogenic (duh). People often asked what an agent is looking for but it’s really hard to say. But that’s kind of like asking what chocolate tastes like. Hard to describe. However I will say personality is really important. No one wants to hang out with Debbie Downer (or Donny Downer for that matter) for eight hours on a set. Boring!

Anyway I forgot my round hair brush, so I’m off to look for a brush (you don’t want to see my hair curly with bangs) and do a little boutique hopping while I’m at it.

Creative Director of the House of Issey Miyake, Dai Fujiwara, showcased a collection of many mixed and matched patterns for Spring 2010. The collection contained both bright and dull colors, with hues ranging from pale peaches to bright blues and purples. Honestly, I miss the technological side of Miyake, but I’ll take more on the ready to wear.

It’s been a long ten years since Issey Miyake brought us the latest in fragrance, but finally Miyake’s giving us something to grin about, the wait is over. The newest perfume is named A Scent. Yes, we realize it’s not the most creative of names, but we hear the scent makes you want to grab dozens off those shelves, and the bottle is pretty awesome too. A Scent hits store shelves September 7th.

Issey Miyake chose the patterns route for the Fall 2009 Collection, and the color choices aren’t half bad either. The suits have a unique style to them as they line up to create a cool look that I haven’t really seen before. The rest of the collection boasts some baggy pants and patterned blazers. Don’t know how versatile the pieces are, but who cares when you can have a look like this.

Make the 24 hour trip down under and you are bound to find some fabulous fashions. With Australia’s Fashion Week recently coming to a close, Australian designers hit the net, showing off some impressive collections. One of my favorites was Therese Rawsthorne, an Aussie designer with youthful romance pouring out of her sewing machine. Having worked for Issey Miyake and Oswald Boateng, Rawsthorne returned to London where she founded the label Youth World, eventually naming it after herself. Her Fall 2009 collection combines intricately tailored masculine pieces with feminine naturals. While pieces remain relatively simple, Victorian inspirations, like ruffled sleeves, high collars and bodice tops and dresses.

With the only exception being the look above, I think that the Spring 2009 Issey Miyake collection is the worst I have seen in a long time. The collection has some of the worst color choices ever, combined with a lack of patterns, flattering cuts, and style in general. I feel like this collection is a mix between Old Navy and International Male.

Apart from being a collaboration between two of Japan’s greatest creative minds, it’s also a limited edition, posthumous one that, until recently, was technically too difficult to actually make.

Miyake recalls, ‘Kuramata suggested an oversized drop of water and a condensed version of the earth with visions of flowers and dreams, light and wind, men and women dancing a rondo inside.’ Back in 1990 industrial techniques didn’t allow for a clean circle to be cut into a cube, let alone for a party to take place inside one.

Almost twenty years on, though sadly after Kuramata’s death in 1991, 2,500 bottles have been made. Thanks to the development of laser technology, a perfect sphere has been cut into a cube of glass and polished, achieving the ‘absolute purity’ Kuramata intended with his original drawings. A nod to the designer’s Memphis involvement comes in the turquoise blue cap and the box, which features the designer’s trademark ‘Star Piece Terrazzo’ pattern.

The limited release of a design that could have been consigned to the history books without ever having been made is reason enough to raise its value. But given the technical precision of the design, Kuramata’s ‘ahead-of-his-time’ thinking and the timeless appeal of the object itself, we would recommend you keep the bottle long after the perfume’s finished.

Entitled ‘Unbelievable Fashion’ this editorial goes through the most mind blowing garments of the last years. Viktor & Rolf, Issey Miyake, Thierry Mugler, Galliano and Alexander McQueen are just a few of the names whose frocks make an appearance.

As a dude, I can quickly recognize the inspiration for this unique bag by Issey Miyake and Hikaru Matsumura. America’s favorite past time seems to be the inspiration for this “absolutely worth selling a few first born for” bag.  The stitching is inspired by a baseball mitt and the bag requires twice as much time to craft than other Issey Miyake pieces with over 184 parts that come together after 775 processes. So grab one and show everyone that you know how to play ball.
