Jack White Follows in Johnny Depp’s Dark Shadows

Edited by

Did you pass by the newest issue of Interview Magazine wondering, who interviewed Johnny Depp? And why are they pushing Edward Scissorhands rather Tim Burton‘s new haunt, Dark Shadows?  Well it ain’t Johnny, it’s Jack White. And whether he meant to or not, in the issue’s photo shoot, he’s channeling nearly every character Johnny Depp has ever played. From a veiled Mad Hatter, to Sweeny Todd in a massive Marc Jacobs hat, White has stepped into Depp’s deep dark shadow. See the side-by-side lookalikes.

Sure They Can Walk the Runway, but Can They Carry a Tune? The Best & Worst Model Musicians

Edited by

Models are great at a lot of things: walking, for instance. Standing very still for long periods of time. Finding their light. Finding coke in the middle of the night when seemingly no one is around. And then there are some models who are actually great at other things, like music. But for some, the spirit is willing but the talent is lacking. These 10 professional stunners have all taken a stab at the music industry, but even the best of ‘em can fall flat on their face…or ass.

What to Wear to Hit Rockstar Status

Edited by

Dude. You’re shredding it on the Fender, and your bassist is bringing up some serious funk. Your bluesy wails are heartbreaking and body-thumping at the same time. You can get a crowd going, but somehow you’re not exactly going anywhere. Yet. Your sound is there, but you need to step it up on the visual front. You’re in front of an audience, and it’s time to start carrying yourself like the Rock Star you are. It’s really in the details. Start with some heavy jewelry, infuse some color, wear original sunglasses inside, and top it off with a hat that raises brows. Once you start stepping out of your sartorial bubble of comfort, you’ll make more stimulating statements.

Take a style note from these four iconic legends: Keith Richards, Steven Tyler, John Lennon and Jack White.

Music Muse: Alison Mosshart

Edited by

Rock’s baddest bitch has to be VV A.K.A. Baby Ruthless A.K.A. Alison Mosshart. The first byname came by way of her mainstay indie blues band The Kills. She and bandmate Hotel A.K.A. Mr. Kate Moss A.K.A. Jamie Hince met aurally through a hotel wall kind of like in this Standard Hotel film. Her second sobriquet came with her lead singing/electric guitar wailing role in Jack White‘s supergroup Dead Weather. Her look has natural swagger – she’s a boho glam bombshell that can somehow camouflage as one of the guys. Give her a leather, a fur, a fringe, a native print, a plaid, a ripped tee, she knows what to do with it. Her jaw can cut more hits than her two bands combined. If you haven’t met her before, meet our Music Muse: Alison Mosshart.

John Varvatos Celebrates 30 Years of Guitar World With Window Displays

Menswear designer John Varvatos is a big fan of strings. Not the kind that dangle loosely from fabric, silly! The kind that are attached to guitars.

That’s why the edgy Designer of the Year award winner — whose ads have included the likes of Iggy Pop, Slash, ZZ Top, and Franz Ferdinand — is celebrating three decades of Guitar World magazine with some really rockin’ window displays at his store in New York City’s Soho.

“As Guitar World celebrates a milestone in the music industry with their 30th anniversary and we celebrate our 10th anniversary in fashion, we felt it was a great way to bring together both worlds in a nod to the ultimate guitar ‘bible,’” Varvatos, who has outfitted today’s hottest players including Lenny Kravitz and John Mayer, said in a press release.

The store’s windows show mannequins dressed in Varvatos‘s signature cool-cat clothing, with Guitar World covers featuring music greats like John Lennon, Prince, the White Stripes’s Jack White, and Eddie Van Halen splashed against the walls behind them.

“In the world of rock-and-roll it’s the guitarists who always push the boundaries and set the trends,” Brad Tolinski, Guitar World editor in chief, said in a statement. “Nobody ever looked better — or more dangerous — doing this than icons like Jimi Hendrix, Jimmy Page, and Joe Perry. It’s a thrill to have a fashion house like John Varvatos acknowledge Guitar World and our role in creating those indelible images.”

StyleList loves the idea of Varvatos celebrating magazines with window displays — just as long as he stays away from Bird Fancy. That could get messy.

In related news, read how Interview magazine celebrated its 40th anniversary.

Huge fan of The Dead Weather, and the combination of machine guns, amazing music, Jack White, and the purely love/hate relationship that is shown is this video is really everything I strive for on a daily basis. There’s something about the facial expressions, body language, and the way that both White and Alison Mosshart are walking that has me obsessed with this video all over again. Throw in these promo pictures and you officially have what I invision both my current and future life as being. Now if I could only find myself a machine gun!
