London Finally Decides to Man Up: Introducing London Men’s Fashion Week…end

Edited by

Since time immemorial, men’s fashion in London has been relegated to the sidelines, tacked onto the last day of London Fashion Week when all the ladies have strutted their stuff and all the editors are running off to Milan. But no longer. The British Fashion Council has announced the creation of London Collections: Men, a full three days of menswear shows and presentations debuting in June.

Jeanette will be invading Start Boutique’s basement this month, transforming it into the latest version of his illustrious store Jeanette’s. Stock will be pulled from the Spring/Summer ’10 collections, and will also include a selection of one-off pieces and vintage classics from an array of designers. The launch party last night saw entertainment from off-the-wall tranny-punk act, Lady Noise, who provided a true tribute to Jeanette’s panache and style. Neighbouring hot spot Callooh Callay kitted out START’s bar, contributing Plymouth Gin and Schweppe’s Tonic to the guests, who included Ben Grimes, Dominic Jones and Louise Gray. Jeanette’s is now proudly open in START’s basement, with his ‘n’ hers fitting rooms decorated by Louise Gray and James Long, and online (www.start-london.com). Stock includes current and vintage pieces from designers such as Jonathan Saunders, James Long, Nicholas Kirkwood, Louise Grey, Blaak and Roksana Illincic.

These eclectic pieces are quite appealing, as they do possess a vintage look. I’m particularly taken with the dress in picture one, what a perfect piece of work!

RUNWAY RUNDOWN: James Long Fall 2009 Collection

RUNWAY RUNDOWN: James Long Fall 2009 Collection

The Fall 2009 James Long Collection is pretty great if you ask me. There are plenty of small things that I think really make this collection great. The knee patches are pretty cool on all the pants, and the use of patent leather accents against the patterned material creates some pretty great looking pieces.

Runway Rundown: James Long A/W 08

Starting off the winter season with a stylish foot forward, James Long has revealed his A/W ’08 collection.  Though James began the label based solely off of accessories, he has invested his time and passion into expanding the accessories and clothing the label has to offer. The A/W  ’08 collection truly embodies this expansion. The line explores a wide variety of pants, jackets, sweaters and accessories, allowing the label to cater to a wide range of interests. The line sticks to a more basic color palette of blacks and whites, paying increased attention to the design detail within each ensemble. With a warm yet stylish jacket for the winter along with great accessories to match, I’d give the collection a thumbs up.
