The video for Empire State of Mind has just hit the web. Love this song. It’s the perfect tribute for the greatest city on earth. If you don’t like this song your most likely from LA.

LOL: Lil’ Mama Raids Other Stages

I’m sure you remember this…but people on Twitter have decided that they want to know where else #lilmamais…Lucky for us, Street Level has complied a list of all of the photos. Here are a few of our favs:

IN CASE YOU CARE: Lil Mama Tries To Be Relevant By Crashing Jay-Z And Alicia Keys [VIDEO]

Here’s a vid of the VMA ‘oops’ that no one cared about. Lil Mama jumped onstage at the end of Jay-Z and Alicia Keys’ performance at the end of the VMAs last night, it’s kindof funny because Jay-Z tries to push her out of the way a little bit..no one has really commented on this issue as much as the Kanye one, but there is a Twitter topic going around about it (#lilmamais). What do you think, desperate for attention? Or ‘really sorry?’

FASHION INDIE PLAYLIST: Grizzly Bear (@ Jelly Pool Party)

FASHION INDIE PLAYLIST: Grizzly Bear (@ Jelly Pool Party) all indie

I headed over to the last Jelly Pool Party of the summer yesterday with Alyssa and Jamie from Love Brigade to see friends play dodgeball, and watch Grizzly Bear.   I had heard of Grizzly Bear, but I had never seen them. I was pleasantly surprised by their live show, and I think Mischa Barton, Solange Knowles (or is that Beyonce?), and Jay-Z all were too. The lines were crazy long, and people were trying to jump the fences (one girl ate shit and fell flat on her face), but overall, everyone seemed to be in to the beautiful weather and awesome music. Check out Grizzly Bear on their site, and see photo evidence of the whole day (and after party) by Nicky Digital. Sundays are fundays!

FASHION INDIE PLAYLIST: Jay Zs Blueprint 3 Leaks all indie

I haven’t put my pirate hat on yet and started hunting for it, but the rumor is that Jay-Z’s Blueprint 3 is up for grabs on the web. It’s insane how the Internet ruined a lot of what the music industry once was. Anyone steal this album yet? Is it any good?

FASHION INDIE PLAYLIST: Rihanna, Kanye, And Jay-Z ‘Run This Town’ [VIDEO]

The wardrobe for this video is absolutely sick.

Jay-Z (the head of the song) said:

“The song is about evolution and the progress, you start out as a new artist and you make your way into the game. You climb that mountain and you get to the top and you put your flag down. This is us putting our flag down. This is Roc Nation. Pledge your allegiance. You’ve got to put your flag at the top of the mountain and say we run this town.”

I’m not a big hip hop fan, but I must say that I respect the hell out of Jay-Z. Not only does he put out amazing music, his videos tend to be top notch and ahead fo their time as well. Here’s a little preview for the upcoming “Run This Town” video. Looks amazing!

VIDEO: M.I.A Wears House Of Holland At Grammys all indie

Remember that little number by Henry Holland? Ever what it would look like on a pregnant woman who could explode at any second? Check out this video of M.I.A performing with (soon to be jail bait) T.I, (the ass of our generation) Kanye West, (the socially accepted, talentless junkie) Lil Wayne, and (the 95 year old “gangster”) Jay-Z at the Grammys last night. Sorry M.I.A but this may have been the worst opportunity to wear you House of Holland gear, or dance like you normally do.

The New Mr. Blackwell?

The New Mr. Blackwell? all indie

Mr. Blackwell died in October, but political consultant Roger Stone has taken it upon himself to continue the Best Dressed and Worst Dressed tradition.

Who?  I know, I don’t know.

I guess he’s something of an icon for the Republican party, but apparently quite the fashion plate as well.

The New York Times has taken notice of Stone for his “flamboyant personal style” and “sartorial elegance.”

I’m not sure if Stone would have Blackwell’s blessing on this.  But I have just read a little biographical info on this guy, and I am now fascinated with his Nixon tattoo and perennial suspenders.

So on his website, The STONEzone, Stone has published his “official list of the best and worst dressed men and women of 2008.”

He also apologizes to American women for popular men’s fashions and notes that “lobbyists are the only elegant men left in America.”

His best-dressed men include Barack Obama, Jay-Z, Al Sharpton, Calvin Klein, and Eliot Spitzer. Best-dressed women include Carla Bruni, Rihanna, Fran Leibowitz, Victoria Beckham, Gwyneth Paltrow, Angelina Jolie, Sophia Loren, Penelope Cruz, and Sarah Palin.

Worst-dressed people include Simon Cowell, Justin Timberlake, Ashton Kutcher, Johnny Knoxville, Peter Wentz (yes, he calls him Peter), Madonna, Gloria Steinem and Christiane Amanpour.

I Hate Nappers

Their rhymes are weak. Their style sucks. And they can’t dance for shit.

Why are they becoming popular?

Oh, yeah cause people are fucking stupid and easily fall for a gimmick.

The Jazzy Jeff/Pre-Million Dollar Movie Deal Will Smith look was never cool. These guys haven’t even attempted to make the look interesting by updating it. It looks like they just watched a full season of the Fresh Prince of Bel-Air and photocopied everything they saw. You’re not the new hipster, you’re not even close to being a blipster and I refuse to consider your shitty attempt to rehash the 90’s it’s own style category other than Napper (Nerd + Rapper = Nappers) because you are seriously putting us all to sleep. What’s so annoying is that this was purposely started. I’m sure it was a conversation at some Billyburg Salvation Army that got these boys talking about wearing 90’s retro wear and now they’re doing it and stinking up the streets with their visual vomit endouching style.

I’m starting to miss the good old days of rap, when cocaine and heroine dealers like Jay Z and Biggie Smalls ran the streets of Brooklyn. Now with all the white kids moving in we get vanilla flavored attempt at gansta.

So let it be known far and wide. The Retro Kids = Nappers. Kids that dress like they tripped into Kid n Play’s closet = Nappers. The Fresh Prince’s of Brooklyn = Nappers.

And I fucking hate Nappers.

Jay Z Poses As Steve Urkel

Jay Z Poses As Steve Urkel emerging fashion

When Jay-Z met with Jonathan Ross on English television program no one was expecting the Geek-ridden ensemble. You would think someone who owned their own label would be capable of picking out clothing to fit their strut and accessories to match but Jay-Z ended up stumbling into Steve Urkel’s famous collection of prescription glasses and tight suspenders. Seriously, what was he thinking? We all know Jay Z is capable of making a statement but it’s time someone told him Urkel’s glasses were ment solely for Steve. I highly doubt this was Jay Z’s intent but it’s a look-alike we’ll be sure not to forget.

Thanks Selectism for the pictures
