What with the advent of Jeffrey Campbell, the platform generating machine, we hardly bat an eyelash at the prospect of wearing what some (read: old people) referred to in the 70s as “ankle-breakers.” But in the day, sky high chunky platforms were  newsworthy media shakers, and semi-plausible reason for medical concern. With the likes of these vintage Vivienne Westwood ten-inchers, Elton John, David Bowie, The Who, and the chic London scene spread the trend right around.
