A heaping helping of shade was thrown all over the interwebs from disgruntled customers wanting to get their clutches on the one-off collection with many blaming Target’slack of preparation for the feverish rush. The line was made available at 6 a.m. on Tuesday and by 7:47 am the homepage was down. Thirteen minutes later, Target put up a courtesy page claiming the problem was being worked on.

Though Target switched from Amazon.com‘s backend to their own platform, the #fail was mostly attributed to the Missoni fever built up over the last few months. Vogue featured  the line in its August issue — with New York Times writer Stephanie Clifford astutely pointing out that that was “perhaps the first and last time that a $30 rug made it into that magazine” — and items at the Missoni for Target pop-up shop sold out in six hours during Fashion’s Night Out. Even alleged celebrities like the Jessicas Simpson and Alba were coveting the pieces.

While the collection will last through October 22nd, over 6,000 items popped up on eBay just some 11 hours after they had initially gone on sale. While all this hubbub and hullabaloo is great for Missoni, Target’s kind of getting its ass handed to them, with words like “amateurish” and “embarrassing” being bandied about. Of course, Target will recover and hopefully learn its lesson and hopefully the masses’ unprecedented demand for discount Missoni will inevitably be satiated. [NYT]

If you remember, in the heady days of Bennifer when Jenny purported she was from the block, she started JLO and its allegedly higher end line, Sweetface. It made sense, she was a bona fide fashion icon, scoring more hits on the red carpet than at the box office.

That dress made Jennifer Lopez’s career — and coincidentally revived Versace which was struggling under Donatella Versace after the death of her brother Gianni three years earlier in 1997 — and propelled her to fashion fame (and infamy).

So it made sense for her of all people to start a fashion line, but she apparently “didn’t understand the business well enough.” Now with a new Hilfiger on board — Andy, Tommy’s younger brother, was J.Lo’s JLO partner — the old girl’s ready to give it another go.

Sure, Kohl’s isn’t a runway in Milan or a luxurious presentation on the French Riviera, but J. Lo’s going to be getting that J. Simps money.* Coupled with her cushy gig on American Idol, a hit dance song (the gays will take anything) and DVD sales from Selena, La Lopez has mounted a comeback!

And I couldn’t be happier.

There are so few real stars left since reality TV and the Internet has ruined fame for everyone (p.s. follow me on Twitter @LesFabian). Sure, she’s not the most talented singer, or actress, or dancer, or fashion designer, but hey — she’s the best at pretending to do all of them. And that’s called star power, kids.

- When fashion loves something, boy does it love the hell out of it. Prada’s Spring 2011 collection was a big fat effing hit, so much so it’s been featured on at least 15 magazine covers. Guess that explains those record-breaking profits.  [Fashionista]

- Donatella Versace has sexy chairs, sexy cocktail tables and probably whatever sexy furniture needed to satisfy your sexy sexiness. Of Versace Home, Donatella says she “want[s] create spaces that make you feel sexy and glamorous.” Mission accomplished. I haven’t seen this much sex on furniture since that house party I went in to Brooklyn sophomore year. Granted, it was a ratty couch that (who I can only assume were) hobos had been using for a house, but still…sex all over it. [Style.com]

- The Wall Street Journal‘s profile on Vogue editrix Anna Wintour is enlightening. Not only does she explain the mag’s “backbone” (“I think we have a Vogue vocabulary, and there are certain people we like to have as the backbone of the magazine—Vogue‘s signposts.”) but there’s also this handy dandy graph identifying each and every vertebrae of that backbone. One vertebra, however, is in rehab in Arizona right now. [WSJ]

- Professional booozehound and Boardwalk Empire actress Paz de la Huerta was arrested today after making some reality star see actual stars at the Standard Hotel’s Boom Boom Room on Sunday. And of course a drunken-bitch-beatdown wouldn’t be complete without Lindsay Lohan. But the Troubled Starlet was only there to help, removing shards of champagne glass from the reality star’s leg like a regular old Lilo Nightengale. [Daily News]

Is it her singing… NO.

Is it her style… NO.

Is it her appeal to confused teenagers who’re easily molded by pop culture’s influence… hmm.

It’s hard to believe, but it’s true. Jessica Simpson made $750 million off accessories, shoes, outerwear, perfume, watches and other retail goods this year, and she’s quickly approaching the billion mark.

Jessica Simpson. The same girl who was married to Nick Lachey. Jessica Simpson. The same young lady who didn’t know that Chicken of the Sea is tuna. And, Jessica Simpson. The same woman who was once asked, “You want some buffalo wings?” and responded, “I don’t eat buffalo.”

Jessica Simpson, one billion dollars. What is this world coming to?

This picture was snapped yesterday at the Macy’s Day Parade, as the pop star sat atop her massive float.

(As you can see, she’s about to wet her pants.)

False reports informed us that Jessica’s fear stems from a drunk driver of a Smurf Mobile who ran over her uncle Todd while he was reaching for a Jolly Rancher at a parade.

I’m proud of Jessica. It must’ve taken a lot of courage to get back in a float after suffering from nightmares of giant smurfs for 12 years. Baby steps.

Over a month ago, when I had the pleasure of witnessing Project Runway‘s finale show firsthand, I didn’t think Gretchen had a snowball’s chance of winning. Maybe my brain had turned to mush after sitting through 75 minutes of decoy collections, but her crunchy-granola take on tribal just seemed so…boring. It left me cold.

On the other hand, I thought Andy South‘s collection was elegant, romantic yet slightly hard, and vaguely reminiscent of his beloved Yohji Yamamoto. Sure, it didn’t have any of his dominatrix/warrior princess edge, but why can’t something just be LOVELY, god damnit? Naturally, the judges hated it and counted Andy out of the running entirely.

Mondo’s collection, on the other hand, I loved from start to finish. I am not a print girl in my daily life, and I don’t really go for whimsy…but the moment his first look walked down the runway, all of Lincoln Center seemed captivated. His prints are wild and could become costumey with a less skilled hand, but his tailoring was so sharp and clean that it still looked refined.

Not so, sayeth Michael Kors and Nina Garcia. They lambasted him for being too “circusy” and skewing towards a “junior market,” remarks which led to the best. Project Runway. Catfight. Ever.

Lasting a whole 20 minutes–unheard of in reality TV–Michael and Nina duked it out with Jessica and host Heidi Klum, Team Gretchen and Mondo respectively. Team Gretchen was pleased that the designer, once written off as too “Birkenstocks,” styled her models a bit higher-end and more luxe, and they applauded her hand-forged (by other hands) metal jewelry. Heidi, however, correctly pointed out that no consumer wants to buy a top and have to buy the accoutrements necessary to make it fashionable.

Boxing gloves out, the tie was somehow broken and Gretchen takes home the prize. Ultimately, the judges said she was “current” and speaks to what modern women want to wear today.

I’ll let Mondo sum up my feelings in his exit interview. “You know, I was just really, really shocked…Gretchen, it was mundane, it was kinda one idea.” Yep. Guess Tim Gunn was right when he said the judges were smoking crack this season.

You can tell Jessica Simpson is from Texas, because she definitely prescribes to the “bigger is better” mentality – even when it comes to her summer dresses. Simpson looked like a big ole fool, in our opinion, in these oversize, tent-like patterned maxi dresses.

What she did wrong:

Patterns are great and so are maxi dresses, but avoid combining the two. Either opt for a patterned cocktail style, or a solid colored maxi.

These massive dresses do nothing to show off her toned legs and large bust. She looks more like a sack of potatoes, than the sexy Daisy Duke-wearer we once knew.

What she should have done:

Instead of Look 1:

Since Jess clearly loves patterns and this bold, bright orange color, she should try a shorter, less-baggy style like this adorable, fitted Billabong Darling dress ($39.50).

If Jessica was a heartset on a maxi style, she should have gone with this bright, flattering ASOS Jersey Grecian Maxi Beach dress ($50.54) in a solid color.

Instead of Look 2:

Maxi dresses are great because they hide all sins. You don’t need to look like you’re swimming in fabric, though; try this Daftbird Racerback Tank dress ($124). It is super comfy yet still body con and somehow slimming.

Since we know Jessica loves her prints – including the green tiger concoction above – we found her this amazing Diane von Furstenberg Crinkle printed dress ($325). You just can’t go wrong with a ladylike DVF dress.

I’d like to let it be known that I love shopping the Juniors departments, as well as stores such as Rue 21, & Forever 21. The prices are always “pocket friendly,” and there is a wealth of items which integrate well with other wardrobe pieces.

Q: Where did you learn to design and how has your aesthetic evolved over time?
A: That’s the first question?! Of course I think I’m expected to name
FIT or Parsons as an alma mater but the truth is that I’ve only taken
one illustration class and one sewing course. The rest is self taught
through internships, past work experience as well as guidance from
family and friends. I pick up any little fragment of knowledge,
continue collecting it and depositing in into a mental reservoir I
carry with me everyday. As I persist my aesthetic becomes more true to
the woman I see myself becoming: a wife, a mother, an entrepreneur, a
voice in the community. All of those roles are so common amongst all
women, it comes across in my silhouettes that i am designing for them
and I am confident in the direction I am headed.

Q: You are mostly a one woman show, how do you handle it all?
A: I have a lot of people rooting for me to make it and so willing to give of their own talents without pause. Honestly and gratitude,
coupled with an almost unwavering loyalty, has equipped me with an
unimaginable, invisible “line of credit” amongst my colleagues of the
garment district. In my earlier days, assistants doubled as models and
day jobs became a cover for my designer alter ego. I would stay
absurdly late at the office to print everything from lookbooks to
garment tags. I think the more I have to do the quicker my mind works
to make it happen, in theory anyway. Besides, I have to handle it, I’ve
got something to prove.

Q: When did you realize you could make your passion your career? Is designing in your blood?
A: When I saw someone making an awful mess of their own fashion label, I thought to myself I see what they are doing wrong and it takes less time to do it right. I began seeking out people in the fashion industry who were sincere, helpful and humble. I knew that fashion could be more
than superficial, it could be extremely intellectual and empowering. In the end all I want is for a garment to enhance a person’s mood, their appearance and their confidence. The women in my family used to make all their own clothes and still recount wonderful stories of them stepping into a dance as a trio of sisters with the best outfits in the place. The mental image of the creativity, class and fun they must’ve had is something that always keeps me inspired.

Q: What energizes you? Where do you go to find new inspiration when designing a
new collection?
A: It almost never begins with a visual inspiration. First I seek out
the music. In my head the the melodies begin to suggest bodies and
colors. I later come across an artist like Tamara de Lempicka or Henri
Rosseau who appear to embody the visual aesthetic of a song or genre
I’ve recently discovered. In my teenage years I wanted to be a singer
and would always put together outfits to help the audience understand
me as an artist. Even till this day I want my appearance to give people
a clear understanding of who I am. A picture is worth a thousand words,
so why should we be afraid for people to judge us by our appearance?

Q: You are sponsored by the Garment Industry Development Corp with a space in Showroom New York, because you make your clothes in New York’s garment industry. Why do you feel it is important that the Garment
Industry remain in Manhattan?
A: Showroom New York has played a huge role in my collection over the past year. The
designers that make up the collective are dedicated to seeing one
another succeed and we make it happen by sharing our resources,
criticism and encouragement. It would be impossible for us to do so if
the Garment District became spread out over the 5 boroughs because
zoning laws are forcing manufacturers out. I’ve had to do a lot with
very little formal training, the pattern-makers and seamstresses who
have supported me since my eager intern days are invaluable to me. They
see my vision as well as expand it. Innovation is what happens when
ideas are thrust into the air making the atmosphere fertile for a
surprise, a movement. Right now fashion is stale, but at Showroom New
York there is so much to taste. People are looking for something new
and we are what’s new.

Q: Lastly, and please don’t be shy, what can the Women’s Mafia make happen for you?
A: As if I wasn’t already fawning over Women’s Mafia and how great your approach is to supporting new talent. First, you can get me a tape of

forge a solid connection to women who’ve been seeking out the aesthetic
that Shauntele represents which is elegant with just the right bit of
sexy to get a room buzzing.

Reese Witherspoon wore this pink & black print dress by L’Wren Scott back in October at a launch for her new perfume with Avon, while Jessica Simpson was seen in the same dress last week on Light Night with David Letterman.

I think without a doubt Reese wins this faceoff. The dress does not flatter Jessica’s curvier frame & the chunky shoes don’t help either. I loved that Reese kept it simple with her hair, makeup, and accessories, since the print and color is bold enough.

Who did you prefer—Reese or Jessica?

Get ready for The Price of Beauty, a new VH1 reality series that will star Jessica Simpson and her hair stylist/close friend Ken Paves. Jessica and Ken will travel around the world and talk to dozens of women about the great lengths they go to for beauty. Not quite sure it will be a hit, but I guess you never know.

It’s adorable and it’s affordable. What’s amazing right now, during this recession, is that, somehow, the business keeps growing.”

After years of seeing Jessica Simpson’s annoying face covering the tabloids and bobbing around on television, I’ve come to two conclusions- she is a mediocre singer and a terrible actress. Thank you Vanity Fair for giving me another for the list. Jessica Simpson is a dreadful model. What the hell is her face doing in this photo? Instead of looking elegant and poised, I get the impression she has really bad cramps. Simpson is a southern belle pageant princess; trying to make her look like a classic, old Hollywood starlet is just making me want to vomit. You can’t fool me either. I can see through those many layers of Photoshop work. I know times are hard, but is Jessica Simpson the best Vanity Fair could do for the cover?

While the other blogs are calling Jessica Simpson fat again, based on photos from her performance in Florida on Sunday, I am calling her outfit a good old-fashioned bad time.

She’s looking a little softer here, but there are ways of concealing that. And they do not include tight, high-waisted, big-pocket jeans with a bad wash, or a tacky leopard-print belt.

Well, it was expected that both Jessica’s and Paris’ perfumes would do well; however, tell anyone beforehand that they would increase Parlux’s net sale by almost half their initial amount and you’ll be sure to met with a stare lending to considerable wonder. News has it the company, Parlux, which manufactures both of the celebrities’ perfumes has increased profit by 43%. That’s insane!

“Demand for our products continues to be strong in a very difficult economic environment,” the Parlux chairman stated.

Hmm, I think we’re getting the picture. “Economic difficulties” don’t really translate well in this argument, or any argument concerning our two featured socialites. The perfumes are doing well, the sales are up. Hey, everything is totally fine!

Well maybe the kid wasn’t taken away, he probably just ran away after his mother threatened to wear these pants again. There are plenty of times when leopard print is acceptable in moderation, but there is not a single positive word I can say about this picture. I’m surprised PETA isn’t on her ass for skinning a cheetah to make those ugly things, and then defacing the whole race of animal by wearing them in public. Besides having vomit pants, she’s wearing the slipper Hugh Hefner died in (he’s still alive? really?), Jessica Simpson’s tard smile, and a hairdo that is fitting of one of those embarrassing celebrity mug shots. Do us all a favor and disappear for a couple years Sharon, that should give you plenty of time to realize what you’ve done, and what happened to all the money you made for doing the movie Antz? Oh right collagen, I hear it’s expensive.

To add insult to injury this issue looks like an outtake from her September 2004 cover. Which in my opinion is much better than the 2008 version of the glam-down-south-cowgirl-with-a-heart-of-gold.

Recently, I published an article on plaid patterns hitting the runway, and thus making a comeback. Elle’s September issue features Jessica Simpson on the cover, clad in plaid. While I am happy that the trend is being shown on a major magazine cover, this isn’t really the way to sport it. Plaid is inherently country but designers were thankfully taking the trend to sophisticated heights.

Jessica’s rodeo belt and trashy cleavage do not remotely suggest class. Why not a dress and cowboy boots? Aren’t these boots made for walking?Though Simpson is currently marketing herself as a “simple sweet country girl”, she could have worn something else to make her point. The sex symbol is recreating herself, and targeting a new audience, in hopes of success. What do you think of her new image?

Jessica Simpson designing dresses? Surely the world is coming to an end. Could you really trust a woman that thinks buffalo wings come from buffalo to design the dress for your next shindig? I mean this is the same broad that didn’t know whether or not “Chicken of the Sea” tuna is really chicken or fish. I mean, if that don’t scream ‘I’ve been sniffing’ the chloroform’, I don’t know what does. If she doesn’t know that difference, I don’t see how she would know the difference between silk jersey and burlap with shards of glass in it. This is a disaster in the making and I’m huddling under that kitchen table preparing for the fallout.

I can just see it now, uneven hemlines, an arm socket where the tiddies supposed to be, a zipper horizontally across the butt. I guess we need to start letting everybody design things they have no business in hell designing. George W Bush can start new space shuttle designs for NASA. Stevie Wonder can design reading glasses and Dr Kevorkian can design new life saving curriculum for paramedics and firemen. Stay in your lane Mama!
