There’s been a lot of flack about the interwebs regarding Vogue Italia‘s “Haute Mess” editorial shot by Steven Meisel, styled by Lori Goldstein and starring Joan Smalls, Coco Rocha, Lindsey Wixson, Daphne Groeneveld, Jessica Stam, Abbey Lee Kershaw, Guinevere van Seenus and Karen Elson in all their ghetto fabulous glory. Some feel it’s racially insensitive, some think it classist, but Franca Sozzani thinks people just see what they want to see. And hopefully you see a lot of “messy drag queen.”

It arrived sans fanfare in the FashionIndie office yesterday and I immediately seized it within my eager claws, having witnessed the miracle that was the cover only a few days ago. In his first full issue, Edward Enninful makes his mark with a series of strong editorials, one of my favorites being “Transformers,” featuring a roster of superstar models in dramatic “Before” and “After” looks.

The 90s began with the biggest names in the business and then they were all but wiped out when 15 year old Kate Moss slouched onto the scene. Like Twiggy, Jean Shrimpton and Penelope Tree (who bears a striking resemblance to Kate) before her, Kate ushered in a new body image for women to aspire to. That image was the definitive shape for the past two decades and only now are we seeing curves reappear on the runway and in advertising. We’re parking this model mobile in the here and now!
