Jill Stuart‘s spring 2012 collection was heavy on pastels and short on pants — if involving pants at all. Twas an enjoyable mix of granny and tranny, though there were some weird quilted fabric numbers resembling bed comforters that wouldn’t look good on anyone.

Later this week, Spring 2012 will permeate the interwebs, making us go googly eyed over trends we won’t fully appreciate for another six months. Meanwhile, I stepped outside today to the first NY chill of the season. So before I get Spring Fever over New York Fashion Week, let’s chat about the looks we’ve been lusting over for Fall that we finally get to put to werq.

Jackets go ablaze when electric hues brighten up the scene. Proenza Schouler, Jil Sander and Phillip Lim have not gone back to black, and how refreshing!

Jill Stuart Fall 2011 Rouses Wooded Allure

Inspired by the mystery and dense wildlife of Germany’s Black Forest, Jill Stuart brought about a collection of of burnt perfect hues, drop hip pleats and abstract landscapes. The deep red glows orange like the morning sun, transitions into the shaded blues and greens of the wooded sky, and fades into sunset tinged gold and salmon. Likewise, in this natural circle of life, the fox that she endears us to on her landscape prints…. become fur vests and ponchos in the following looks. AND a look at the highlights after the jump.

Jill places the waistline real low with this dual texture leather-to-suede A line. Then there’s this Bambi-esque tight poncho – it’s opened at the sides so it could twist around to become a capelet. Digging the oversized formal hunter coat that hits just as the pleats begin on the dress beneath, and a fanny pack for the forest explorer is essential for hands free discovery. Ah, the golden pleats that rise in through the light orange glow moves magnificently.

Seventeen-year-old Lindsey Wixson can put another notch in her fabulous belt. The American model is the new face of Jill Stuart, and she looks damn good in the spring 2011 collection. Her famous gap-tooth smile was photographed by Mario Sorrenti for the campaign.

This campaign follows Wixson‘s ads for Versace, Alexander McQueen, Mulberry and Marc Jacobs.

Good God, the Jill Stuart spring 2011 collection is fantastic. In a room packed to the gills with eager fashionistas, young and old, the most cohesive, thoughtful line I’ve seen so far for spring was presented. More after the jump…

Talking Heads and LCD Soundsystem prepped the room while photographers crowded around Kim and Kourtney Kardashian. Brad Goreski from The Rachel Zoe Project and Jonathan Cheban from The Spin Crowd sat next to the sisters. Nigel Barker was also in the sun-filled atrium, looking fine as ever.

If anyone knows dresses, it’s Jill Stuart. And she comes by her fashion chops quite honestly: her parents ran the iconic ’60s label Mister Pants, which dressed leading ladies of the day like Lucille Ball and Natalie Wood. As a result, Stuart was raised in the world of fashion and, at only fifteen, sold her first collection to Bloomingdale’s. Needless to say, there was nowhere to go but up from there, and that she has—especially in the arena of dresses. With their sheer silks and rebellious hemlines, Stuart’s girly designs border on daring, but always remain proper. We love the understatedly sexy allure of this strapless lemon yellow silk gown from her JILL Jill Stuart line for that very reason. Statement-making without being forward, its sweetheart neckline, draped folds, and stunning color are one way to stop all conversation in a room (in a great way). RUNWAY: Jill Stuart Fall 2010 Womenswear

Jill Stuart’s Fall 2010 collection screamed winter in London. Ruched dresses, lace-up knee boots, oversized scarves, floor length trench coats, bell hats and velvet mini dresses were turned motherland with classic tartan plaids, reds and blacks. It’s a major improvement from her Spring 2010 collection, but Stuart still has a few issues with putting on a show. With a music cut out, several delays between models and a last look that simply didn’t appear, I’m beginning to think Stuart needs to seek a new venue for her show and/or hire more models and a better sound crew. It’s Fashion Week lady, there’s no room for mistakes.

I am loving the fall ’08 Jill Stuart ad campaign. Stuart’s dark and mysterious garments look stunning against a chaotic, paint-splattered background. German model Toni Garrnd stars in the Pollock-inspired series. Youthful, fun, artistic and just plain beautiful, Stuart’s clothing sells itself through these ads.
