Runway Music: Despite hearing about her nonstop for the past few weeks, this was my first time actually hearing Lana del Rey. Her ”National Anthem” kicked off the show and I wasn’t completely offended by what I heard. Who knew?

Apparently it’s the first time in 8 years (really?!) that models and not celebrities were featured on the mag’s cover. We’re definitely happy with the model choices as well. Miranda Kerr, Chanel Iman, Doutzen Kroes, and Adriana Lima are some of the sickest girls in the game. If they through Karlie Kloss a cover we’d literally run into Hearst ans scream in everyone’s face.

Good job Elle. We’re pretty sure of bff Joe Zee was definitely behind this.

Some of the pieces were made exclusively for Elle and are available for purchase on the mag’s website from June 14th through July 14th, while supplies last.

Theyskens, for his part, couldn’t be happier at how it all turned out: “Its great to see how each stylist mixed everything up. It’s like they went to a vintage store and discovered all these cool finds.  They gave me some great ideas for the brand.” [WWD, Elle]

Style council members teamed up  to talk to fashion students about how to make it in the industry, educate themselves about the creative process, and encourage them to join the “vitaminwater color collection” competition, a t-shirt design competition that leads to a $5,000 grant and a tshirt produced and sold through vitaminwater.  The FIT panel included Gossip Girl stylist Eric Daman, Elle’s creative director Joe Zee and CFDA designer Richard Chai.

Attendees got to hear about how youthful passion led all three industry experts to their respective careers today.  Regardless of whether you end up in magazines, as a designer, or styling television and movie sets like the panelists one theme rang strong:  be open minded to new opportunities, be creative, and always ask questions.

Fashion students sipped on Vitaminwater while listening to the wise words of the fashion elite.  And a special treat at the end?  Several lucky audience members walked away with iPad2′s, copies of Joe Zee and Eric Daman’s books, and a certain special someone got a cashmere cardigan designed by Richard Chai (lucky me!).

- Elle‘s creative director, Joe Zee, needed some extra security after one of the dismissed contestants from his new Sundance Channel reality show, All on the Line, sent him and show producers hundreds of “troubling” emails threatening to kill himself. We are looking for New York based designers in their late 20’s and older who have had success with their line but are having difficulty getting into the stores they want. We are looking for designers that would want to work with Joe Zee to get their designs to the next level. The next level could be anywhere from getting into a high end specialty boutique to a large store that the designer knows their designs would be perfect for.

On each hour episode of the Sundance Channel’s ALL ON THE LINE, Joe Zee helps a designer by offering his expertise from working at ELLE and having inside information on what buyers want in today’s market. The premise of the show is that designers will work one on one with Joe Zee through out the episode. This would involve getting advice from Joe Zee and traveling around New York with him as they work to set up a meeting with a buyer at the end of the episode. The show concentrates on the struggles designers have when art and passion meet business and commerce.

This is NOT a competition show, and this is not a show for fresh out of school designers. We are looking for experienced designers with a track record but who could use Joe’s help and advice to take their business to the next level.

Last week, Becks and I had the opportunity to attend the 9th Annual Tulips & Pansises: The Headress Affair at Gotham Hall in NYC. A benefit for VillageCare, a nonprofit which helps those with HIV/AIDS, the event brought together a dozen extremely talented designers, Whitney Port, Fern Malis, Kelly Cutrone and Patricia Fields.

Always an event to look forward too, Tulips & Pansises outdid itself these year with headdresses designed by The Blondes, Tracey Reese, Betsey Johnson and DKNY. Best of all, the event was staged for an episode of The City, which we apparently will be on due to our seating directly behind the People’s Revolution crew, which included the super cute Ava Cutrone.

Can’t wait to see that episode, especially since we are also in  the episode airing this week, which takes place at a Guess Party we attending in the Spring with Joe Zee. Maybe FashionIndie will get a bigger cameo in the future?

If you were following our Tweets last week, you’d know that Becks and I met Kelly and Patricia. Patty grilled me on her work and told me if she ever decided to get married, it would be with someone who “entertained her”, male or female, while Kelly revealed that she’s questioning the merits of her book now considering the recent loss of her father.

Kelly, your book is major and you should never question it. You’ve created a warning tome for young females who enter New York with Sex and the City dreams and for that you should be proud.

I always look forward to Ports 1961, the shapes of the garments are always intriguing, and front row is always gossip worthy. Like this afternoon, when I noticed that Whitney Port and her friend Roxy sat second row, while Olivia Polermo sat in front next to Elle Mag’s Joe Zee. Also in front row, veteran Lauren Ezersky, Mister Micky, Nitro:litious, and many others. There was also a moment of silence honoring Alexander McQueen before the show began.

Last night we partied hearty with the stars of The City, Elle Creative Director Joe Zee and everyone’s favorite New York City social, Tinsley Mortimer. Held at the GUESS by Marciano store in Soho the event was packed to the walls with a cache of Bravo and MTV reality stars. No Jersey Shorian’s, but give it a week and I’m sure we’ll be seeing a lot more of the tanners at Fashion Week. Scary thought, but true.

Really psyched I got to meet Joe Zee. Major stalker of his tweets so it was definitely a cool opportunity.

Joe Zee and Rachel Zoe watch your backs, Cathy Horyn is the latest fashionista to join the twitterati. She’ll be tweeting her exploits as she hops from show to show. The New York Times made their announcement via Twitter with this tweet: “In news that should send shivers down the backs of designers: Cathy Horyn is finally going to start tweeting this season.” We can’t wait!!!

Fashionista is a new show from the Tyra Banks crew that focusses around a bunch of fashionable someday somebodies looking to get a job at Elle Magazine, working the days as Joe Zee’s assistant. They are casting fashionable types for the show. Read the notice below and try out.
