Hussein Chalayan Goes Gums-Deep in his Models

Edited by

Hussein Chalayan is one of the last great showmen left in fashion — now that McQueen is dead, Galliano is fired and Marc Jacobs is stolen. Over the past seventeen years of his career, the Cyprus-born designer has done his part to shake up the fashion industry and challenge people’s views of fashion and art.  How can one forget his groundbreaking spring 2007 presentation with its tiny little robots that allowed six dresses to cycle through 100 years of sartorial history? For his spring 2012 collection, Chalayan utilized micro-mechanisms again, but they served a completely different purpose this time.

Dior-Marc Jacobs Talks Falling Through

Edited by

At the glacial pace Bernard Arnault and co. are moving to replace John Galliano at Christian Dior, the ousted designer will have time to finish rehab, mount a comeback, and muck it all up again in another drunken, anti-Semitic tirade. The luxury brand has been in talks with Marc Jacobs for months, which have been less than smooth, but now it seems that Jacobs and Dior might be calling it quits.

15 of Hal Rubenstein’s “100 Unforgettable Dresses”

Edited by

InStyle‘s fashion director, Hal Rubenstein waxes iconic in his new book, 100 Unforgettable Dresses (Harper Design, 2011). From Rita Hayworth in Gilda to Julia Roberts in Pretty Woman, Princess Diana to the Duchess of Cambridge, Grace Kelly to Grace Jones, Bob Mackie to Karl Lagerfeld, Rubenstein delves into fashion history and comes up with an informative and entertaining read. Round and Round She Goes and Where Marc Jacobs Will Stop, Nobody Knows

Edited by

Louis Vuitton‘s spring 2012 show featured a carousel with models riding side-saddle (of course) and Kate Moss – who, by the way, “asked to be in the show” — closed as she did last season. All in all, another success for one Ms. Marc Jacobs, but the question on everyone’s mind revolves around that whole Christian Dior rumor.

Belle Paris: Best Makeup from the Spring 2012 Runways

Edited by

If there was one consistent beauty trend across the board backstage during Paris Fashion Week, it’s that the fresh face is back for Spring 2012. A lot of nude lips were present and the brown smokey eye is bound to be the go-to day-to-night look for next season. Whether designers were trying to channel Mary Poppins or Grace Kelly, cosmetic geniuses behind the beauty worked their magic to round-out the shows backstage. Click to see our favorites after the jump.

You Can Take the Boy Out of the Zombie…: Rick Genest for Schön Magazine

Edited by

Walking art installation, Rick Genest, aka Zombie Boy, is the feature editorial in Schön Magazine‘s October issue, wherein his signature tattoos are uncovered — then subsequently covered, with the use of make-up and/or de-zombieing cream — by photog Matthew Lyn. Stylist Kay Korsh, meanwhile, dresses the model-muse in Rag & Bone, John Galliano, Issey Miyake, et al. The effect of seeing Zombie Boy with (what looks like) actual skin peeking through might be a bit jarring, but then again, we’ve already seen the Boy before the Zombie.

INDIE NEWSROOM: Dior to Hang Out with Their Wang Out…Tom Ford Keeps It Classy…Rihanna Upsets Irish with Her Boobs

Edited by

- Seems like Dior‘s top 3 choices to replace John Galliano have all been ruled out — Haider Ackermann is apparently “way too edgy”; LVMH wants Marc Jacobs to stay at Louis Vuitton; and Riccardo Tisci just doesn’t want anything to do with it  – leaving sweatpant provocateur Alexander Wang somehow in the running. QUEL SCANDALE! Presents Fashion Fascists: Christian Dior’s “Nazi Look”

Edited by

After Hugo Boss recently apologized for its namesake founder’s Nazi past, we’ve realized that designers were heiling Hitler left and right all up and through the 20th century. So in light of this —  and of the coming Jewish holiday of Rosh Hashana (mazel!) — we’re highlighting the biggest fascists in fashion history as part of our ongoing Quel Scandale! feature. First up, Christian Dior got down and Nazi decades before John Galliano drunkenly slurred his way right out of a job.

#NYFW: Badgley Mischka Spring 2012

Edited by

I rolled out of the figurative gutter of the literal FashionIndie office this morning and dragged my hungover self to Badgley Mischka. Though I didn’t have my coffee/Jack Daniels, the collection was definitely the best part of waking up. There were red carpet gowns galore that we’ll no doubt be seeing in the coming months. But there were a few missteps — I’m the last girl on earth to decry a  hotpant, but when said hotpant interrupts an otherwise stunning procession of dresses, I can’t fully support it. Though I’d probably end up wearing it. Okay, totally end up wearing it.
