Each piece is designed by New York and Miami resident (and cutest hippie on the block) Tini Courtney.  An artist by trade, her designs are a form of wearable art, elevated by the fact that they have specific meanings and traces of crystal healing.  With fans such as Johnny Depp, Zoe Kravitz, Juliette Lewis, and Edward Sharpe, its no wonder that they’ve already caught the eyes of Vogue.com and NYTimes Style Magazine. We chatted with Tini about who the HOWL girl is, how she got started designing, and what she does to stay inspired.

What inspired you to start designing dream catchers?

I mistakingly made a necklace that reminded me of a dream catcher and became obsessed. I rummaged through all of my old jewelry and used whatever i could get my hands on. I have always been fascinated with dream catchers and the powerful meaning behind them. There are so many elements from the Native American culture that i have become more aware of now that i have been making these pieces. Crystal healing and the use of stones in my necklaces is a main focus that is incorporate into all of these pieces. All of the treasures and stones are explained on the individual tags, leaving each necklace with a different purpose or intention.

cosmic, capricious, spirited, connected, fresh

I love this small dreamcatcher. what was the meaning behind it when you designed it?

I made a few pieces with Art Basel in mind, and that was one of them. I wanted to make something small that could be worn with anything. I encompassed a lot of treasures that i collected on my recent trip to New Mexico, lots of bright stones and trinkets that really made those pieces stand out. That one is perfect for you.

I really can wear it with anything! People are always noticing it.  Other than treasure hunting and creating new dreamcatchers, what else do you do for fun? 

Drawing, yoga, painting, styling, treasure hunting, henna. Anything to keep these hands busy.

Do you have any new years resolutions?

Staying focused on upcoming projects that you will be seeing very soon!

Now, where would Johnny Depp fit into the picture?

Penelope Cruz recently posed for the cover of the Tranformation Issue of V Magazine, and the result is certainly transforming. No, really. I had the privilege of seeing the special edition cover in person, and it’s a hologram of multiple images of her face, all of them fabulous. The cover and editorial were shot by Mert & Marcus.

Despite the theme of the issue, Penelope’s take on her success is still as humble as ever. On fame she comments, “I refuse to call myself anything other than a working actress.” More like a WERQing actress.

When asked about her new Pirates of the Caribbean movie with Johnny Depp, she said, ”Johnny wears everything better than I do. He even wore a dress in the movie he did with Javier, Before Night Falls.” Excuse me, I’m off to Netflix to look that up. Enjoy these photos of Pene’s shoot while I’m gone.

Menswear wasn’t always in the cards for Wang. His T by Alexander Wang line started off  as a “vanity project.” He claims he “just wanted to do stuff [he] wanted to wear.” But after GQ named him Best New Menswear Designer in America and he was nominated for the CFDA’s Swarovski Menswear Design Award, he got the message:

“That was like, ‘Whoa.’ You know, awards are great, but they put you on fast track — you have to do this, you have to do that. Now we can breathe and go back to focusing on this new line.”

This new line will have, according to Wang, “a more refined point of view” with slicker fabrics, sleeker lines and “less flashy” embellishments. And that translates to a less sexually-charged aesthetic than his womenswear: “[M]y guy isn’t about exposing his chest. It’s not the male gigolo.”

Ryan Gosling knows a suit’s fit is really more important than the label. It’s not the money you spend on it; it’s how you wear it.

Robert Pattinson sports plenty of stylish looks. But let’s be honest. It’s the hair that separates this English actor from that other guy in Twilight. Never forget the hair.

Ryan Reynolds is another leading man with adaptable style. You could wrap a burlap sack around the man; he’d still look like a baller. In the end, it’s Reynolds’ never-waiving confidence that allows him to land Hollywood beauties like Scarlett Johansson. A confident gaze is the essential finishing-touch for any ensemble.

#10 - NIRVANA

Kurt Cobain embodies the grunge revolution of the nineties. He synced the music to the laying low layered baggy flannel I-couldn’t-care-less look. It was an anti-fashion statement, a call to his own philosophy with reckless comfort, and thus it became fashion.

#9 – GUNS N ROSES

Of the glam metal hair bands that existed in thick of the eighties, Axel Rose and his lusciously locked bandmates were some of the most authentic in the genre. Their punk tinged solid rocker look made their shaggy manes manly. Power leather, head banging bandanas, faded shrunken graphic tees and hand cut effects complement their genuine rockstar songs.

#8 THE KILLERS

The intrinsic cool of Brandon Flowers emanates throughout The Killers. They create the kind of music that so easily sounds contrived when attempted by others, and the same goes for their look. Their polished quality with major statement, like feather shoulders or fur jackets, embodies both music and style in the best light.

#7 – OUTKAST

Big Boi keeps it hood. André 3000 blasts it into the future while tossing around a twenties vibe. He raised his waistline when no one else did and created mayhem with his look in “Hey Ya!” Their music is as smooth and superfast-paced as their appearance.

#6 – THE CLASH

As key players in the original wave of British punk, their shredded, zipped and right tight aesthetic weighed heavily in the formation of the genre. Their politically driven lyrics are backed by their F-you look and general badassery.

#5 – MGMT

This psych rock group from the here and now is a major reason that American Apparel stocked its shelves with blinding neon. Their exceptional style leads Andrew VanWyngarden and Benjamin Goldwasser to experimentation and wild inspiration. For instance, on their website a fan asks, “What inspired the fashion choice for Lolla[palooza] in Grant Park? You looked pretty hot in those jackets. (In every sense of the word.) Amazing.” Andrew’s answer? Quite amazing indeed.

#4 – LED ZEPPELIN

Gah, it’s effortless. The unbuttoned bare chested sexiness of Robert Plant is only upped by the fur collared leather trench of John Bohnam, complemented by the multi-tonal jacket on John Paul Jones and completed by Jimmy Page‘s slick tweed. Their ever present style had the same air as their music; the loudest, most soulful wails and riffs and rips always rode the chillest undercurrent.

#3 – JIMI HENDRIX EXPERIENCE

Jimi Hendrix dressed like the psychedelic royalty he was. Purple and mind altering patterns enwrapped him as he lit guitars on fire, shredded it with his teeth, and as LSD dripped down from the scarf tied around his head (allegedly). The Experience was a spectacle; heady music enhanced tenfold by the showmanship of Hendrix.

#2 – THE ROLLING STONES

The Stones are the greatest vaudeville act of all time, never ceasing. Clothing slings on their rockstar bodies with ease, as does some of the greatest rock and roll ever performed pour out of them. They started out, much like The Beatles and every early British Invasion band thereafter in straight suits and matching haircuts. With time and money they evolved into wearing spectacle-worthy designer pieces like Mick Jagger’s Prada cock feather fedora or these pants. Keith Richards sparked the eyeliner earringed look that Johnny Depp so famously adopted for Captain Jack Sparrow. Undeniable sex appeal lies as much in their music as in style of larger than life, gender bending (yet deeply masculine) cool. And they’re still at it now.

#1 – THE BEATLES

The boys who brought rock and roll to the masses went through a series of evolutions in their seven years as a band. They began clean cut and mop topped, singing sweet yet earth shaking songs of holding hands, sharing secrets, twisting and shouting above the echoing shrieks and screams of crazed fans across the globe.  Always the epitome of class, they experimented with the finest suiting in the world, and it was Pierre Cardin who introduced them to the Indian Nehru jacket. Once they receded from the touring spotlight, they blossomed further as style icons. Sgt. Pepper and Magical Mystery Tour brought psychedelia to the forefront with neon military regalia, wild paisleys, beads, thin chains, moustaches and acid. Onto The White Album, which they wrote most of while practicing transcendental meditation in an ashram, they developed further spiritually and grew into newer versions of themselves. John Lennon was looking more like Jesus every day, and solidifying his round spectacle staple. Paul McCartney kept charmingly classy, now paring back the brights. George Harrison grew ever more spiritual, keeping a relaxed finery about him. Ringo was actually the most fashionably daring of the four, hamming up the giant rings and divinely accessorizing. The Beatles were indisputable trendsetters as their image and sound transformed through time, transforming the world around them.

Despite scathing reviews and dysmal box office returns, The Tourist and Burlesque were both nominated for Best Picture – Musical/Comedy, which just goes to show you that…actually I’m not really sure at all what that goes to show anyone. Other nominees include Alice in Wonderland, Red and  The Kids Are All Right, which has already won by default.

Both Johnny Depp and Angelina Jolie were nominated for Best Actor and Actress, respectively, in the same genre, however Cher is conspicuously absent. Now, who does the HFPA think they’re fooling? They can nominate Depp and Angie for sleepwalking through a movie no one saw, but snub Cher after wielding a crowbar in her first film in over 7 years? Someone call the AARP, the Globes are abusing a senior citizen.

Elsewhere, the Globes mirror the CCAs in their unabashed hard-on for Black Swan, The Social Network and The King’s Speech, each receiving multiple nominations in the acting categories, as well as a nomination for Best Picture – Drama. They’re joined in that auspicious category by Inception and The Fighter, with Danny Boyle‘s 127 Hours mysteriously snubbed.

The flick’s star, James Franco, is however nominated and released a statement to MTV about how “grateful” he is. And he also released a statement to Matt Lauer of the Today show about his love of texting pictures of fat animals.

I’m seriously excited about his various award speeches in the coming months.

Marky Mark Walhlberg (The Fighter) replaces Jeff Bridges in the competitive Best Actor – Drama category, otherwise, the nominees are exactly the same as the Critics’ Choice. Meanwhile, the nominees in the Best Actor – Comedy section will be getting drunk on the free champagne while Johnny Depp chuckles to himself at getting nominated twice for essentially the same character he’s been playing for the past 15 years.

It’s becoming clearer and clearer that the race to watch this year is Best Actress. Natalie Portman, Michelle Williams, Nicole Kidman and Jennifer Lawrence all re-scored the nomination, with Halle Berry somehow sneaking into the Drama category. Annette Bening has already engraved her name on the Best Actress – Comedy trophy, as her only real competition coming from her Kids Are All Right co-star, the incredible Julianne Moore.

Jeremy Scott: Maria Bell the owner and head writer of The Young and the Restless had asked me two years ago to come on the show and play myself. We have had a few opportunities come up but never fully realized the role until now, as we needed the right story line for me to make sense in!

DR: Who is your all-time favorite daytime diva?
JS: MISS PIGGY!

DR: Which characters on TYATR would you sleep with/marry/kill?
JS: You will have to watch and find out whose bed I end up in (and alive or dead!)

DR: Say your next Longchamp Pliage bag is inspired by The Young and the Restless. What does the print look like?
JS: I guess it would pretty much look like the one I did for fall! Big, black, gold and bold!

DR: If you weren’t playing yourself on the show, what kind of role would you fancy playing?
JS: My evil twin brother, Jeremiah Scott! He was given up for adoption at birth as my family was too poor to care for us both and he was raised in the wilderness bycoyotes!

DR: There was once a rumor circulating that Johnny Depp is hard to work with because he rarely showers. Did you have that problem with any of the Y&R cast and/or would that ever deter you from on-screen romance with Johnny Depp?
JS: Nothing would keep me from a romantical scene with Mr. Depp and I, being a method actor type, would ideally like to “flesh” out the scene as much as possible before the cameras roll!

DR: Do you have a favorite character on the show? Why?
JS: Lauren Fenmore played by Tracy Bregman, she’s a wonderful woman, honest hard working, but she’s nobodies doormat either!

DR: What TV show can you never miss an episode of?
JS: True Blood!!! Which is basically a soap opera about vampires,telepathsandwerewolves! I love it!

DR: Can we expect to see more Jeremy Scott on screen in the future?
JS: Wild horses couldn’t keep me away!

Replacing British singer Lilly Allen, French singer/actress Vanessa Paradis took over as the new face for the Cocoon Bag Line. She also modeled the Cambon line back in 2004.

I really liked the collection, the leather bags are very modern and also sophisticated, designed for urban use or for travel and are available in different sizes and colors ( black, cobalt blue, charcoal grey, light grey, silver, chocolate and ivory versions).

Growing up in the 90′s, travelling the world, I witnessed the great influence of American Pop Culture wherever I go, Tom Cruise’s 1986 TOP GUN poster stapled on a barber shop in Boystown, Pattaya-Thailand, Brad Pitt’s 1994 Legends of the Fall poster in a “mostly censored” movie rentals in Al Khobar-Saudi Arabia, Leonardo Dicaprio’s life-size cardboard cutout in the streets of Lan Kwai Fong-Hong Kong, Jason Priestley and Luke Perry’s of Beverly Hills 90210 in the 1990′s all over the notebook covers of teenage girls (and boys) in my highschool in Manila, I have to confess I bought my first Tiger Beat with River Phoenix cover to wrap my Calculus Textbook (to get me through my most boring class ever).

James Dean
(February 1931 – September 1955)

In an “fun experiment” by Irina Aleksander on her article “The New Male Beauty” (June 23, 2009) for The New York Observer. She suggested that the latest “It boys”sort of look alike– High School Musical’s Zac Efron, Twilight’s Robert Pattinson, Gossip Girl’s Chace Crawford, Star Trek’s Chris Pine, Hairspray’s James Marsden, Fantastic Four’s Chris Evans and the list goes on, and she calls it the NEW MALE BEAUTY: those wide-set eyes, the narrow nose that flares up at the tip just so, the childish puffy cheeks and the not-too-rugged jaw lines, topped with carefully placed strands of layered hair. Although I agree with her that this twenty-something James Dean doppelgänger’s has been dominating the box office and prime time tv this decade, whats new? Since James Dean starred in Rebel Without a Cause (1955), he’s reincarnation’s in the “Male Beauties” of the 60′s (Warren Beatty), 80′s (Tom Cruise), 90′s (Leonardo Dicaprio) has always been prominent. The 2000′s Young Hollywood cannot deny the fact that “another swoopy-haired, pretty-faced actor dominating the box office” has started in the 50′s. Although I was born in the 80′s and Tom Cruise was the king, I acknowledge the fact that on my list of top 10 Male beauties of all time, it’s a not a Mr. Pattinson or a Mr. Efron topping my list- its the original, Mr. Dean.

River Phoenix
(August 1970 – October 1993)

The American film actor who starred in Gus Van Sant’s 1991 Semi-documentary footage of Seattle street hustling “My Own Private Idaho” is one of the reason I fell in love with american filmmaking, not only its sexiest Homosexual road movie ever made, its casted perfectly with beautiful talented stars all at the top of their respective games. The film’s success solidified Phoenix’s image as an edgy actor with leading man potential, without even trying, he is the most authentic reincarnation of James Dean’s beauty and talent in the 90′s.

Brad Pitt
(December 1963)

Yes, its not a surprise Mr. Pitt’s in the list, has been cited as one of the world’s most sexiest men over and over again in some top 10 list all over the world. But I can’t help but put him in this one, because am only human. Most of my favorite movies of all time are starred by Brad Pitt, and three of the sexiest and most beautiful characters that the silverscreen ever produced he had played – J.D., the cowboy hitchhiker who seduces Geena Davis’s character in the 1991 road movie “Thelma & Louise”, as Louis de Pointe du Lac in “Interview with the Vampire” (1994) – the most referenced vampire of this decades’ teen vampires and Tristan Ludlow in the 1994 drama “Legends of the Fall”, how can I resist?

There is something so mysterious about this American actor that I find so mesmerizing and beautiful, after 50 films and running, from “A Nightmare on Elm Street” to “What’s Eating Gilbert Grape” from “Fear and Loathing in Las Vegas” to “Pirates of the Caribbean”, he just makes me ask for more.

Joe Dallesandro
(December 1948)

Aesthetically speaking if the Greek philosophers will have a perfect mold for the male beauty, it will be “Little Joe”s face. Thanks to Andy Warhol, the 70′s underground films will always have their nude James Dean. Although he never become a mainstream film star like Mr. Dean, Mr. Phoenix, Mr. Depp and Mr. Pitt –Mr. Dallesandro is a sex symbol of the 20th century in his own right, and an iconic beauty on my list. Like Mr. Phoenix he starred as as a beautiful teenage street hustler in the 1970′s film Flesh and hailed as one of the 10 most beautiful men Scavullo had ever photographed. As a photographer how can i disagree?

Gabriel Aubry
(January 1976)

“Quick, name one male model.” asked by Lauren Streib on her article “The World’s Most Successful Male Models”(May, 07 2008) for Forbes Magazine. Gabriel Aubry, Mark Fisher, Marlon Teixeira, Jon Kortajarena, and Greg Knudson and yes, Fabio doesn’t count. In my personal list of Top 10 Male Beauties of all time, it only make sense that half of them are models and three out of five are signed with Wilhelmina Models in New York City. All five of them have the moviestar goodlooks minus the Zoolander ego that plagued most male models this decade.

Signed to Wilhelmina Models in New York City, the only male model to ever appear on the cover of Uomo Vogue while appearing in 4 different campaigns at the same time, in the same magazine. Aubry is a Canadian male model, that has been the face (and body) of blue chip clients like Gianni Versace, Calvin Klein, DKNY, and Valentino, achieved supermodel status after modeling for Hugo Boss.

Mark Fisher
(January 1976)

One source of male beauties for me back in college are the men’s fashion magazines, I have converted my room in a mini-magazine library and nobody can avoid all the muses for more than four decades of the legendary photographer Bruce Weber, Mark Fisher is my favorite. Mr. Fisher is an American model best known for his campaigns for Abercrombie & Fitch, Polo, Versace and Ralph Lauren. In my book he is one of the original male models that carries the James Dean charm without even knowing it.

Fisher was born in Detroit, but grew up in Atlanta and considers himself a little boy from the South.

Marlon Teixeira
(September 1993)

Signed to Wilhelmina Models in New York City, Teixeira appeared on Dior Homme Campaign, the provocative Diesel Ad shot by Terry Richardson, the face of the 2009 Christian Dior Summer/Spring collection to name a few. The brazillian beauty is half Portuguese and has Indian and Japanese origins and at the very young age and early of his career he is becoming one of the top working male model right now.

Jon Kortajarena
(May 1985)

Those chiseled cheekbones, full pout and sexy stare has placed Spanish male model on my top 10 male beauties, signed to Wilhelmina Models in New York City,
Kortajarena has been the face of Just Cavalli, Tom Ford, Bally, Etro, Trussardi and now on his film debut on the upcoming directorial debut of designer TOM FORD “A Single Man (2009)” alongside Colin Firth, & Julianne Moore.

Greg Knudson
(November 1978)

Whenever people ask me who’s my favorite model I ever photographed, this American male model, native of california always come to mind,
I never thought I’ll ever meet a real life James Dean in my lifetime, but I did, and his body covered by Oriental tattoes of his gang memebrship on his teen years,
a troubled teen like the characters that James Dean, River Phoenix, Johnny Depp would ussually play in their films and his striking resemblance to Brad Pitt is uncanny.

Excerpt from my book Acknowledgement “STARK”: I remember buying my first photo book, Just Between Us by LA photographer Greg Gorman, when I was in Fine Arts college majoring painting. I will never forget that, because I had never before spent so much money on a book; but that day and from this day on I knew it was all worth it. The moment I saw Greg Knudson on the book cover in the display, I considered him the most beautiful person on the planet, and I still feel he is.

When I shot him in LA last year—8 years after I bought the book—Greg told me I might be the last photographer he would ever work with since he is thinking of retiring; he has worked with most of the top photographers in the 1990’s. Now he is gracing my photo book, and I am elated.

1. The Golden Compass- Nicole Kidman is so killer in this movie. All of the floor length, fur-lined coats and the glamourous dresses are to die for.

 

2. Loser- So much 90s grunge, so much goth from Mena Suvari, so many motorcycle pads. We love it.

3. Once Upon A Time In Mexico- Enrique pre-mole removal days+Johnny Dep post 21 Jump Street days = good movie. This is a great good cop, bad cop flick with Spanish-infused styling.

 
4. Romeo and Juliet- The prime Leo days, the costuming for this modern-day Romeo and Juliet film is flawless. Minus the sole patch

 

5. Rear Window- This is one of my favorite films ever, detection at it’s finest, and tons of old-school glamour (Grace Kelly is a dream!). This trailer isn’t too good, check out the film for the full effect

 

6. Black Dahlia- Old school glam, total pinup style. We love Scarlett Johansson in red lipstick.

7. Gangs of New York- Leo does it again! (and how sweet is that part when all of those guys have top hats on)

8. Cruel Intentions- Ultimate country club kids, plus Sarah Michelle Geller wears a ton of sexy lingerie.

9. Sky Captain- I’m a huge fan of women being badasses. Gwenyth is still total glam and sexy while being a badass, and Angelina is just, well, being as hot as she is in every other movie.

 

10. Domino-Kiera Knightly as a bounty hunter that still wears red lipstick despite being a total badass? Win.

 

11. Hedwig and the Angry Inch- We had to include one more on this list because Hedwig has the craziest rock-tranny style ever! Not only that, the members of ‘her’ band make great rock stars (for the 80s), and then there is her little goth boyfriend.  All sorts of styles going on in this film, and all sorts of greatness

Images have hit the web from Alice in Wonderland, the new Tim Burton production staring Mia Wasikowska, an Australian newbie, as Alice and Timmy’s boy toy Johnny Depp as the Mad Hatter.

It’s still early in its production (the films not slated to hit theaters until 2010) but the costumes look pretty amazing.

Hopefully, Tim will give up movies and head into the world of fashion.

But between the brown peep toe booties with the shiny black tights and frumpy yellow shorts and over-textured, over-patterned thing you’ve got going on from the waist up … and I’m going to stop now, because everyone, their stylist and their stylist’s mother can see that this is not working on every possible level.
