Go East, Young Tran!

Asia is booming! With many designers flocking to the Far East not only for business but inspiration, why not give a knowing wink to the Orient with this look, featuring a Boudicca cape, cropped McQ jersey harem pants and of course, what Asian sensation is complete without a little Hello Kitty?

Let’s start with the best of the Derby, the Southern Belles who embodied the spirit of the event in a tasteful and classic manner.

Johnny Weir is the winner of best dressed! He looks amazing in his dandy ensemble and gorgeous oversize hat.

Ashley Simpson looks absolutely adorable (something I don’t get to say very often) in her cloche hat, pearls and polka dots. It’s 1922 at the Derby and she is in high style. But I wish she would have put her hair up.

I love this bright periwinkle dress Jaime Pressly chose to pair with her dark hat and shoes. But I can’t tell if the dress is wrinkled or not, which is a little irritating to the eye.

Doesn’t LeAnn Rimes embody the spirit of the Derby perfectly? I really adore the floral mini dress and how the ribbon on her elegant straw hat matches it to a T. I would have done a different shoe, but that’s me.

Joey Fatone is certainly N*SYNC with the festivities (forgive me, it’s Friday and I’ve already started with the juleps). Give me red roses and feathers any day of the week.

This is a very special photo that will take us from the best dressed at the Derby to the worst dressed. Kim Kardashian looks absolutely gorgeous. Her look is sexy and sophisticated, and I especially love the hat and wrist gloves. Brava, Kim.

Kris Kardashian on this other hand looks a mess. This dress is not flattering on her and the patent leather stripper shoes were a poor choice for the event. AND I could make a leather tote bag out of her sun damaged skin. Bad, bad, bad.

God in heaven, save us from the evil that is Brooke Shields‘ hat. It seriously looks like her whiny kids made it for her in school – a failed attempt on Brooke’s choice to wear it and the children for being poor crafters. And I think I had this same dress when I was five, so maybe she borrowed it from her daughters too?

I was a little torn here, because all of these hats are fabulous. Kenda look bangin’, she is actually one of the best dressed in my opinion. HOWEVER, where in Satan’s hell did Bridget and Holly get those dresses? Macy’s junior department prom section is about on par with these disasters, couldn’t they get anything better? Wait, probably not. Hef also looks pretty fly for a 200-year-old man.

An all black outfit to the Derby? Are you f*cking kidding me Gabrielle Union? In the words of Carrie Bradshaw‘s unfortunate party girl friend Lexi Featherston, “I’m so bored, I could die.”

And here it is, the absolute worst outfit of the 2010 Kentucky Derby. Bethenny Frankel opted for a light pink seersucker jumpsuit with matching ruffle, side tail and hat. But I think the lollipop is what pisses me off the most. It kind of looks like she wrapped herself in a baby blanket, no?

UGH Heidi can do so much better than this! There is no model pose, hair or makeup displayed here at all. And that color does not work for her, it’s so drab. I’ve been so bored with Heidi lately, she needs to turn it up.

Look 1: See-Through Señorita

The Swishy Jumpsuit: Zimmerman, $360

Look One began with a washed silk jumpsuit. With a solid boned bodice, the heart shaped neckline hugs sturdily on the ribs. This allows the swishy washed silk to sway to the billowing harem whilst staying put on top. The pockets are deep and the ankles are stretchy; Australian duo Zimmerman has paid attention to the details.

The Recycled Net Top: Camilla Norrback, $188

This next piece came into play because of its netted quality that sees clear through to the jumpsuit. As playful as it is practical in the practice of layering, this shirt also happens to very conscious of the world around it. Swedish designer Camilla Norrback can claim eco-friendliness since 2002, and has made this top out of 100% recycled polyester.

The Orchid Statement: Marie-lise Lachapelle $375

Pinned to my hair is an orchid dipped in gold, the flower immortalized as jewelry, preserving its natural beauty. This piece originally sat as a necklace in the display, but with a thick, long curved bobby pin, it became a hairpiece rather simply. With an entrepreneurial sculptor father and high fashion model artist mother, Montreal native Marie-Lise Lachapelle captured the attention of her own celebrity clients with her stunningly delicate jewelry. She made the jump from styling to full time jewelry making in 2005.

The Mary Janes: Pedro Garcia, $180

Just about the only thing that could compliment the flower in my hair is Mary Jane. And this pair by Pedro Garcia elevates the look with a touch of demure formality. Hailing from the south of Spain, the brand breathes the Mediterranean Sea.

1. Wear a belt to define the waist. Just because you’re wearing wide-leg pants doesn’t mean you need to look bigger than you are. Belting the look creates a waist and shows off the feminine figure. Whether wide or skinny, there are tons of options out there for you to try.

2. Try a jumpsuit. If you are a jumpsuit veteran and want to try the wide-leg look, this is a great way to experiment. All you need to do is accessorize wisely as the top is already picked out for you. Try something fitted through the bust and hips to avoid looking like an inmate.

3. Add a feminine touch on top. One of my favorite ways to wear high-waisted, wide-leg pants is with a sheer top. Something fitted and lacy balances the masculine bottoms, creating a polished and chic look. And this peek of skin under the sheer top looks super sexy without unleashing the trashy vibe.

4. Add a long, structured jacket. There is nothing more sophisticated than a long jacket with wide leg pants. Whether done with monochromatic pieces or contrasting solids, this is the look of a bold woman. BUT, you MUST wear heels with this one to avoid looking like a munchkin. Unless, of course, you’re 5’10″.

It seems like ages ago now that high-end and fast-fashion retailers alike were proudly trying to make the female population dress like fighter pilots and/or garbage collectors by foisting jumpsuits upon them.  Now, hopefully, that trend has given way to another full-body outfit: the catsuit.  Take a look at this black velvet number from Bodkin and tell me it isn’t an improvement.  Me-ow!  Jump for another look.

Christy Turlington shines in the new Yves Saint Laurent campaign, a series of photos that never fail to make me wish I was a 35 year old women in Paris (so I could maybe rock these looks). Just because Angela Lindvall rocked out the solid to sheer jumpsuit at Stella McCartney’s Spring 2009 show, doesn’t mean we all can. This photograph is a bit misleading…what on earth has she got on underneath the jumpsuit? Could there be a bodysuit under there? Maybe a pair of boy-shorts? Nude lingerie? Sheer on the runway has become more and more acceptable, but I don’t know how the public would react to this jumpsuit with a view. So, how would you wear it?

After checking out Fashionista‘s call for ideas on the way to wear this jumpsuit, I came across a reader comment that was spot on. Leggings. Duh! Why didn’t I think of that? Why not sport this awesome jumpsuit with a pair of slimming leggings to balance out the airy flow of the sheer legs. Match a top base layer to the leggings and you’re on your way to one hell of a knock-out look!

You are one on my short lists of celebrities who don’t make me gag! You aren’t typical and that’s what I, and others, like about you.

Subversive art students, like myself, fell a little bit in love with you after you made Secretary.

You were one of the only pregnant celebs who didn’t feel the need to do a Demi-inspired nude pregnant layout. And on behalf of the public, ‘We thank you’. Instead you posed in those beautiful Agent Provocateur ads.

But what is this?

This should be a lesson to everyone silk-satin will give you paunch, no matter how much you weigh, it would even give Nicole Richie paunch.

It’s not even that the black jumpsuit is bad, all you had to do was belt it!

And you wonder why you are often placed on the worst dressed lists….
